How come you did not remove the welch plugs? the ports behind them are for the low idle and if your engine is surging or will only run wide open or with the choke partly on then these ports must be cleaned.

Easier to assemble with everything clean/dry, and all ports blown out with air-compressor.
I set the bowl into cleaner, like scrap food container small enough to not waste chemicals, and all other parts sit in the bowl to keep it all together.
Rubber parts if in good shape should stay out out carb type cleaners if you want to reuse them.
Love your vids keep em comin and good job!! i am starting my own small engine repair business and i would love to see a walkthrough of your shop. How ya have it laid out and so forth! that would be cool thanks again!
Thanks. My 4.5HP Tecumseh wasn't starting or running well. I didn't do everything in your video. I was able to remove the bowl clean it up, clean the float, clean the main bolt and the little holes.
I had a second problem. The end of the spark plug that attaches to the cable was rusted. I replaced the spark plug and cleaned up the boot with a little sand paper. It's working well now. Thanks for saving my back and my wallet. This summer I can get the mower and weed wacker working better.
I used a small crochet hook to pull out the old float valve seat. I am replacing it so I did not care about damage, but the hook did not seem to cause any damage.
Perfect ! I bought a used Toro 5/21 last year. It had a carb job done on it already. When I started it up last week it would only run with half choke. It wouldn't throw snow, it just stalled out. I watched this video and decided to buy a carb kit for $15.00 because tomorrow is Christmas Eve, so I can't get parts 'til next week. I replaced just the bolt with the needle because that tiny hole was plugged from last years old gas. It started up and with minor adjustment to bottom screw it's 100 % !
Thanks alot you just saved me alot of money i just fixed my snowblower the bottom screw hole was plugged bad. That little hole is important!! after fixing it and primed it it fired right up. Thanks again
I have a Tecumseh 502043E-VLV126 with a carburetor much different than most on your videos. Many parts are plastic, but seem to clean well with agents. The bowl does not fit tighty to the gasket. It's bail is seated under it and it still leaks fuel. Is there a way to tighten any part to end this problem?
Thank you for the well constructed tutorials. Content is very useful and presentation easily followed.
@ngnPhalyr what u need to buy is the bowl kit. take the palstic bowl out and take it to a small engine shop to get the exact one. bring ur model and serial numbers. the experience i have with those is thast the only to fix it is to replace those parts to stop the leaking. over time the bowl warps
This is hrs1hrs1's posting. I have exact the same problem: When I move the red throttle speed adjustment lever up or down on my snowblower, the lever on the left of it, with all the little holes in it does not move with it. The lever on the left remains down against the gas line.
what about the hole were the screw goes in there is a pink tube in mine that i think needs to be replaced where can it find that part i have watched some videos but know one have said any thing about that part of the carb would u please help me out
VERY RARE THAT YOU WOULD NEED TO RePLACE THAT PLASTIC TUBE. if you think it is dirty you can insert a small drill bit by hand in the center of the tube to clean it.
i need help with my snow blower i have a craftsman 5.5 24inch and its electric start and i go ahead and spray starting fluid in the carb and it starts but doesnt on its own. but there is fuel in the float bowl but i guess carb itsnt getting fuel from there any help
if it is what i think you are reffering to you can use a small 5/64" drill bit with your hand to clean that hole. that bit fits perfectly. you may have to move it up and down and turn. then spray it with carb cleaner.
you would have to spray it with penetrating oil to soak. then be very careful taking that pin out or the sides will break. you can use a small finishing nail to tap it out.
My old MTD snowblower was only able to run on full choke. After some research I found your video. One hour later, I am a hero. Thanks!!!- Tim in Upstate NY
I was given a 20 year old tecumseh snowblower that ran rough and kept cutting out. I know nothing about small engines so I followed your instruction. I've just put it all back together, fired it up and it purrrrrrrs like a kitten!!!!!.....Many Thanks!!!

Thank you for this Vid. Winters coming and I know I'm going to need to do this on my Snow Blower (I never drained the gas).

Handy Tip with needle/ seat probe tool 670377 @ 2:20.
That rubber seat can cause major chaos when they age or carb cleaner turns the rubber gummy making the needle glue itself to it so fuel cannot get in.
This little Unit here @ 4:54 is the Main Jet.
@5:54, that small side hole is the LowSpeed circuit that shares the same port for idle mix screw.
Most real carbs use a dedicated LowSpeed jet.
That's a clever jet cleaning tool you made.

When you shake the carb you can hear the rod or ball move depending on which one you have.
impalass1369 2 years ago
I can't send you a picture but it is the passage between the low speed jet and high speed jet and it has a rod in there. that passage way is sealed.

At 7:50 the screw that you are taking out, is that the idle mixture screw? You do not mention the name of it.
