If you really look at both Shelley and Tanya's acting styles, you'll see Tanya was a far better actress. She had a natural authenticity that made many of her episodes digestible because the writing was definitely not as good then. Plus she was a lot tougher and more believable as a crime fighter

I liked Shelley vs. both Kate and Tanya. Tiffany was interesting while Julie was annoying and Sabrina came off dull!

Shelly Hack really got screwed in season four. She never got a chance to prove herself in the show and she really was a good fit for role, even if she had a huge place to fill. Tanya was just a chick in a bikini and that was all really.

@LovinLife7777 I would love to have and see the short season 3 & 4 opening along with the original season 5 3 hour premiere opening, shown only once. Perhaps one day someone will post them. After all there are season 1, 2 (mine) and season 5 short opening posted!

@milesthecat Are you trying to say that Season 5 had a Three Hour Season Premiere? I remember it having only 2 hours. Julie appeared with her probation officer Harry and Harry gets shot at the end of the first hour. Then, Julie is doing some detective work of her own and working with Kelly and Kris. I'm not sure what the third hour is. Of course, nowadays, they cut out so much on TV. In the 70's, a half hour show ran for about 25-26 minutes. Today, a half hour show runs about 21 minutes.

@Beautifulmusiclistnr Yes it was three hours. It had a unique opening as past season premieres which has not aired since. It was originally called "Of Street Models and Hawaiian Angels". The first 2 plus hours was what is now known at the 2 part episode "Angel in Hiding". This first airing of the intro of Julie ran a little over the 2 hour mark, so this segment is heavily edited to fit into two 1 hour syndicated episode lengths. The next 45 minutes were what is now "To See an Angel Die.

@milesthecat So, on the 5th season DVD set this 3 hour episode is only 2 hours? What a bummer! Is that correct? I know I remember seeing it on tv. In fact, I remember being at a grocery store when I was a teen, and I was holding a People Magazine with a picture of Tanya on it, and it mentioned how she was the newest angel. I remember the pic pretty vividly.

@Beautifulmusiclistnr - nope, I know that theme (which actually showed no visuals of the Angels), and it's actually one of my favorite versions. I'm referring to the short version of the "regular" theme that appeared on the weekly show for season 4. It only aired a few times but I had it on cassette (I used to be a BIG television theme nerd). There was only one scene per Angel, as with the short versions of seasons 1, 2, and 3. I have never seen a short version of season 5.

@LovinLife7777 I'm sure I've seen it. I'll bet if I saw it I'd recognize it. I was always watching Charlie's Angels when it was on the air on ABC. I too was pretty familiar with television themes, and I still am for shows of yesteryear. If you come across that cassette, put it on YT. I know we'd all like to hear it. It was sad to see Kate depart from the show, but looking back now, Shelly got hosed big time by the producers. She was really not as bad as you think, and now really seeing the series more, she was really pretty good considering what she was given. The insult to injury was replacing her with that god awful Tanya. Tanya may have had the look, but her B actress quality was way too obvious.

the rare thing here is the last appearance of shelley,the last image of her in this opening.they have changed it later.i like her acting and she was elegant but her hair at the beginning was totally awful,then they started brushing it and it turned straight and cool,but it was too late for her.

I think they should have given Shelley a short hairstyle to make her different from Cheryl.

I really liked Shelley's Tiffany Welles,when they dropped her,I still watched the show but never really took to Julie as I did to Tiffany,not the fault of Tayna Roberts though.

WOW!! Thank you for this posting. And for the record- she was not pressured to leave the show. According to Shelley herself there was a network battle. ABC was losing to NBC & CBS. "Fix the show. Change the time slot. Do something" was what Spelling Productions were told. Being in her words "the new kid on the block" she was the most obvious target. Cheryl Ladd and David Doyle were vocal in the press with their dismay at the time. Shelley will always remain my favorite angel.

Charlie's Angels fans DID NOT like Shelly Hack. She was pressured to leave the show. I always thought she was charming, but most Charlie's Angel's fans just did not take to her. They didn't like her. Can't argue with the fans.......

@steveb802000 Unfortunately, they fired Shelley!! Jaclyn and Cheryl were very upset. I liked Shelley even though she replaced Kate. I'm partial though. I liked all 6 of the Angels, and it would have been cool to have them all working on the show at the same time! They should have given her a chance, but they let her go and replaced her with Tanya. Shelley, though blonde, was more like Kate in the series than Tanya. They gave Shelley some lousy lines, and it's not her fault!!

@koln1996 I agree! I liked Tanya, but the show went through so many changes by the time she appeared. It was no longer on Wednesday nights. Once a show moves around, it's almost the kiss of death for it. Now that Kate was gone, and Shelley was there, why fire her? If they want to add another angel, then add one. That's a reason to bring in Tanya, but they shouldn't have let Shelley go. We love seeing 3 angels, but it's cool to see 4 angels. We saw that when Farrah made 6 guest appearances.

@stephy7475 I agree that Tanya wasn't quite Angel material. I agree with you completely on that. The producers should have just added her instead of dropping Shelley. There wouldn't have been anything wrong with Charlie saying at the beginning "Once upon a time there were four little girls..."

Wow! I SO don't remember that last shot of Shelley ever being in the opening credits and I never missed this show. They didn't put this version in the season 4 DVD's.
