Nice vid, but isnt it more accurate to aim at the JAWS of the imaginary pocket, rather than the hole. Also you can just measure from the JAWS to the end of the wood of the rail. By doing that you dont have to estimate how thick the rail is and dont have to add to the distance pocket-pocket. I may be wrong, but that is what logic thinking tells me.
I was already decent at my bank shots but it was pure intuition... I was looking for a system behind it all and after watching quite a few of these videos I liked yours the best!! Real simple! Do you use the same concept for the long bank?
Man, when I saw your video I had to try it and sure it enough it works! Well at least most of the time, lol.
When I play at the pool hall, I like to use the other tables near by as a reference. I typically aim for the pocket on the other table. I taught my buddy this trick and today he managed to shoot a 3-9 combo bank and he made the 9 :\.
yeah i agree to ur scripted technique in a scripted ball position. in pool its not scripted every rack and ball position is different u cant setup a ball in real game..but theres another way how to do a bankshot..i tell u this. umm.i change my mind its better if we have a match.
dude i have to hand it to ya. i been shootin since about 10 years ago but have never had noone teach me anything. Ive been a pretty good stick in the bars and on the pool legue but your videos took alot of work out of the bankshots and the cut shots (freakin awsome)
The problem with using a real mirror...some people will hit the ball too hard then you are spending the next few hours cleaning glass out of your felt. There was a company a few years ago that made a mirror that was 2inches by about 1 1/2 feet. It sat on the rail...that was the problem. When you would hit your shot, it would bounce the mirror off the rail like a quarter into a shot glass. They could have made it better, but it is still breakable.
this is a great example of someone who doesnt know a lot about pool but claims they do. have you ever seen a pro go through all these motions? some people just make this game harder than it really is. obviously this guy has never played anyone nor for any big money. please for the sake of young shooters, unload this video. thank you
No, a pro would never go through the motions. Some pro's use the diamond system, some it is just second nature from experience, like I said there are several methods. When a person is just beginning to play pool anything that gets you in the conceptual field of play will help you out. Keep watching ESPN to get your info, go to the old fogies to really learn. But you are right, it is a game, meant to be for fun. As far as big money, won and lost my share, I am past that point in my life.
@pokerfreak12 Pros don't go through so many motions because they're good and it's second nature to them. I still have to occasionally analyze difficult cutshots when i'm at the table and that's simply because I'm not the best player.
This guy is trying to teach people banks, not show how good he is.
oh sweeet. dude you gotta be youtubes most helpful pool teacher. most people show just the tricks of the trade without actually teaching the trade. awesome. i always wondered how people calculate the angle to hit the rail. whenever im not sure i just give it enough power for a three rail shot and pray. will use your technique next time i go out to play

This is an accurate system that has been used for many years.
Of course the speed you hit the ball and any english will effect the outcome.

hmm. i dont understand how to use this technique but it seems to work for you. you should probly also mention speed effecting your banks too

for those of you saying its a stupid system,
this video is meant to show beginners the basic idea of how to bank and where you should be aiming when executing a bank shot

Thanks for sharing this. How long have you been playing?
tab1990 3 years ago
Since I could see over the table. This was the first way I was taught how to do simple banks. Now it is just intuition, thank you.

Thank you, if I can only help one person, it was worth it.
poolplayinghack 3 years ago
yes but i also remember seeing on the web about a mirror panel small enough to fit UNDER the rail. Would like one of those haha.
ahonlopas22 3 years ago
I would never use either, but those that are just starting might benefit...just do not use training aids as a crutch.
poolplayinghack 3 years ago
get a real mirror and put it beside the table and then POT THE BANKS!!

It's called a training aid. and some pros do a lot of stuff to line up a shot. watch Charlie Bryant shoot a kick or a bank.

awesome but i don't speak english so when i listen to it i can't understand at all, can you explain me the part of the 6 inches that you talk about?
is it because there's gonna be another rail and wood in my imaginary pocket. Just 1 rail and 1 wood or 2rails and 2woods?
sorry for my english
lauferry 3 years ago
Yes, the extra is to account for the rail, on average most rails are about 6 inches in width.
poolplayinghack 3 years ago
okk thanks a lot :)

Thanks, there are several methods for banking, this is just the easiest to learn. I will try to get another easy one up is a couple of weeks.
