This is scary Ive lived in cali. All my life I'm 19 btw and I seriously had no idea we had tornadoes here buy after some research I find out that they are actually common! D= scary!!!
this happen in 2008 right i lived there but i moved to vegas in 2009 i was there and hell as hard as a rock started falling and there was a 400 ft tornado that looked like a huma it had hands feet a face head and a body and it flipped a train set over
I know a girl who works in Perris nr the I-215 frwy off of Ramona Expressway. I remember that day in May 2008. She had told me that her building shook heavily of a very heavy rain. She was a little frightened but continued working. It was around 5:00 p.m. She could not look outside because her building has no windows except on the first floor. The windows did not face the frwy. Because of the heavy rain, her boss allowed workers to go home early. My friend then learned that there was a tornado.
today in perris there was a storm it was hot its still hot ....anyway i saw lightning and then the trees were getting blow and branches flew off then boom this dark little air started to spin it went though my yard and my chairs were all messed up it was cool though
why do ppl think tornados only happen in certain places they can happen anywere at anytime (also depends on the storms power) but pa got one ca got one even canada got a tornado so like i said it can happen anywere any time
On the contrary, dust devils DO get that high. They can get over 1,000 ft high which that storm is about. The only reason why it's a tornado (a rather pussy one) is because of that storm cell above it.
I would've easily called this an EF1 but if the guy that said a train was actually turned over than it's no doubt an EF3. It still looks to me an EF1. But there's NOWAY a train was "thrown" anywhere because that takes an EF4 or EF5 which this DEFINITELY was not.
Hello! it was rated @EF2 and as any one can see the train was blown over 9 rail cars and my big truck was lifted off the hiway some say as much as 40 feet. I was inside the Truck. TJ
Hey TJ- I saw your truck, but didn't have the camera ready. I prayed for you as we drove by. What was it like? did you know it was coming? I'm glad you're still around!
Tornadoes Are created by rotating supercell thunderstorms Dust devils are created by rising rotating air. Same concept just tornadoes are 10 times stronger
Correct. Dust Devils are "upside-down" tornadoes if you want to call it. They go from ground up and can look exactly like a weak tornado which this video does look like if it weren't for the Cell above it and the additional tornado beside it.
Not all tornadoes are created by supercell thunderstorms. Some thunderstorms, like this one, can produced weak tornadoes called landspouts. I'm not certain, but these tornadoes look like classic landspouts (EF0-EF1.) Still tornadoes, they just don't descend from a mesocyclone created by a supercell.
I remember that day. Riverside Co. had tornadoes and San Bernardino Co. have all the rain and thunder. I think it even snowed. I thought it was the end of the world having a tornado in so cal. lol
Rather have tornadoes, Blizzards, and hurricanes that this....whatever the hell weather we get in So Cal! 364 days of sun can drive you mad, you cant tell season it is anymore, its just summer year round. May sound fun but when its 93 and sunny in the middle of February, there is something wrong with the weather! Last time it rained in Burbank, Ca was way back in May. Its Fucking Late SEPTEMBER!!! It hasn't rained for 6 months!!!! I'm going fucking MENTAL!!!!!!
Wow. Nice video. I live in Perris however I was in class this night (Thursday). I heard about it though! I didn't know there were two! I can see that this is southbound on the 215 near Van Buren, so that must have hit pretty darn close to mead valley!
did you ppl kno that at the same time we had this tornado in other parts of the united states there were also tornados, when has this happnened before. either it was just maybe becuase or the worlds coming to an end, i mean look at the economy.
ppl dont realize that its not just ine but 2 tornados that were touched down at the same time!! its just that one was more visible but the shadow of the other one can be seen right behind it...
i think it was one of those tornadoes that comes down, goes back up takes a break then makes another touchdown,Sorta like TWISTER the movie. Touched down in moreno valley, then perris i guess,Crazy stuff for california,GOOD thing theyre pretty weak tornados! probably F2 level or Lower, nothing like texas, and oklahoma and kansas see!
That tornadic storm was part of a largee-scale upper storm system that is very rare for this time of year. A huge and unseasonably cold/deep/strong trough developed over the Western US. Very cold air aloft combined with an influx of moisture and the strong late May sun created strong instability that resulted in strong to severe thunderstorm formation over SoCal Thursday afternoon.
Those tornadoes were a result of one of those intense storms that formed near the Redlands/Banning area.
After a strong thunderstorm formed in the northeastern Inland Empire it became severe. As it moved toward the south and southwest it spawned the tornadoes near March AFB, the 215 and the Perris area. As the storm continued moving southwest funnel clouds were supposedly reported in the Lake Elsinore area, but I haven't seen any information as to whether or not another touchdown actually occurred following the main ones. Based on the damage seen I would estimate this was prob. an EF-1 tornado.
Thanks for the insight. After we passed the tornados we drove through about 10 miles of pea-sized hail that was at least 6 inches deep on the hwy. Lake Elsinore also had at least a half foot of hail and the night was cold enough that there was still some on the ground the next morning. I believe the storm system that can be seen in the distance toward the end of the video is over Lake Elsinore. The camera was pointed basically WSW.
the next day after that, numerous severe thunderstorms with large hail struck us in northwest oregon. one storm in multnomah falls produced golfball sized hail. there was even a flood watch issued for the portland area. ever since then, monsoon moisture from the south kept coming here creating a bunch of severe weather events, especially east of the cascades, they have had severe thunderstorms like every week! lol
a few days ago, we had an outbreak of thunderstorms on the 17th.
I just wanted to say congratulations on getting such good footage of this rare California tornado! I stormchase myself and after seeing your video decided to signup for an account just to comment on this! Great job holding the camera steady and getting good storm-scale shots!
This was truly an incredible event, that storm looked to be a prolific tornado-producer, with TWO tornadoes on the ground at the same time!
This looks like video out of the Plains, very amazing!
Thanks for your comment. I just happened to have the camera and we there at the right time, I wasn't chasing it! Not too many chances to do that in Cali. I was totally and completely amazed.
I could have seen that. It was close to the March Airforce Base and I live near the base. I knew something weird was going on as soon as I saw the hail fall.
I have heard that it actually started on March AFB then crossed the 215 - flipping over the big rig and knocking over the railroad cars. We came upon it after it had crossed the hwy.
OMFG!!! GLOBAL WARMING!!...i didn't even know that there were tornados in those far places! omg! i've never heard of tornados in the west coast, maybe a hurricane but omg still! ahh
oh you have never EVER heard of a tornado on the west coast. you have to be joking, you know that F3 tornado that struck portland/vancouver oregon on april 5 1972? you think that was global warming??? besides California has been getting tornadoes since we began keeping records. you are just another ignorant person that sparks up conversations without the correct facts. do your homework.
I saw this yesterday at the news..I was like wow!!RIverside???The news said of course that this isnt the first tornado..this is supposedly the 2nd one..the other one was in downtown la and that was in the year 1983!! and that was a F-2
going 150 miles per hour..and these tornados supposedly occur in Cali for like twice in two centuries..interesting isnt it?!anyways..its interesting to watch..but very scary!!o_O
My understanding is that this storm is part of a large storm that was centered around Nevada/Colorado area. Because of the topography, this particular spot where this occured always seems to be a magnet for weird weather. This 10-mile or so area gets dense fog in the winter and intense thunderstorms in the summer. I don't think global warming has anything to do with it... the conditions were just "right"
global warning right not for tornadoes,it proves tornadoes can happen anywhere anytime as long as conditions are favorable..tornados have been around for quite some time the fact that there was not as many tornados reported then as compared to now is because less skywarn spotters...the point is you can have cold core funnel clouds and t-storms have occured at 33 f and ever hear of thundersnow-or thundersleet...more to the point tornados have been reported at least once in all of the usa
wow, what the hell is happening to california. crazy heat waves in early spring, then this? there's a reason we don't live in the midwest or anywhere east of our state borders really.
@mrhitman999 What the fuck are you talking about? New Orleans is built on a Delta, and sits below sea level. Katrina was so devastating because it breached the flood gates and flooded the city. Global warming is irrelivant. And since when is a tornado a big surprise? Anyone that doesn't live under a rock knows that North America has the most tornadoes of any region on the planet.
The sunspots peeked in 1960, since then the sunspot numbers have decreased. I don't make this shit up, go research it yourself. You might want to look up why contrails are formed also.
@supadupadennis You are an idiot. Ther are no such thing as chemtrails. When an airplane flies at higher altitude, the air is colder, so the exhaust condensates to form a cloud. And stars don't get hotter. Black spots on the sun are cold spots. And climate control? Just think about the volume of the atmosphere, and the heat of the sun that is the deciding factor in the global climate, and you think any government or whatever can control it. Keep your ignorant conspiracy theories to yourself.
@wkLeoTrooper google: enmod. you dumb prick theyve been doing this shit for a while now. also why would dennis kucinich try to pass a bill REGULATING what they could spray in the air if they weren't spraying shit. you took the blue pill
@supadupadennis Why would they pass laws on what cars can emit in their exhaust? Are cars spraying chemtrails too? Grow the fuck up and get a job and a life instead of worrying about mindless shit you see on the internet. And the blue pill? The only government scams I worry about are the ones that are real. I suppose you don't know that you are not legally obligated to pay income tax. If you're going to be a conspiracy theorist, at least focus on theories that have facts to support them.
blacksunglasses, you obviously didn't look into california's history. califronia had 300 tornadoes from 1950 to 2000. next time do your research before sparking up a conversation.
This is scary Ive lived in cali. All my life I'm 19 btw and I seriously had no idea we had tornadoes here buy after some research I find out that they are actually common! D= scary!!!

Watching Kaleb's video of the tornado it was definitely an EF3, which would overturn a train but noway could throw a train.
The other tornado really isn't worth mentioning, it was a pussy, most likely a mid-powered EF0 trying to be a weak EF1 but couldn't muster the power.
What's spectacular is when you see 3 or more tornadoes within 5 miles of each other and all being over an EF3. Now that is beautiful.
