Hendrix is a bitch to cover. Nothing he did was particularly difficult to copy, it's just that no one can sound like Hendrix. I've seen one person who can make the sound... Stevie Ray Vaughn.

But, my hat is off to anyone who even tries. I'm 58 years old, been playing since my teens, and damn if I can make sounds like Hendrix.

Was I ever. I think the album was Electric Ladyland... 1968. I've been trying to play Voodoo Chile since I was a teenager.

Funny thing, Hendrix is a guitar hero now, but back in his day he wasn't really a Top 40 artist which was all that made radio play. To hear his music on the air, your best bet were the so-called "underground" stations that played albums.
