@tweetyaja Go to wikipedia. Use that thing you supposedly call a "Brain". Snow Leopard is an Intel only OS. Never mind these crappy things. Mine had trouble running Puma.
It's an iMac G3, named G3 because of the PowerPC G3 processor that it runs on, subsequent versions of the iMac used the G4 and eventually the G5 PowerPC chip, and they were named accordingly.
It can be confusing because very often we see products described as 1G or 2G based on the generation of products that they come from and in the case of the iPhone, the 3G model, whilst being technically the 2nd generation iPhone is named 3G because of the fact that it runs on 3G mobile networks.
omg. you RUINED the video by adding that crap music. The only reason i clicked on this video was to hear the "bing" when it turned on. plus, why do you have 9.2.2? My slot loading g3 will hold up to mac os x 10.2.4.
Snow Leopard wont run on the older iMacs, those computers have the wrong processor in them. The older iMacs have a PPC processor, you need an intel processor. Not to mention that if 10.6 *could* run on it, it would be so slow, it wouldn't be worth it.
My brother was given a second hand iMac G3 earlier this year, it appears to be a 233 MHZ model, running Mac OS 8.6. It starts up rather quickly for a computer that's over 10 years old, but when you press the power button to shut it down, or select shut down from the menu bar, BOOM! Instant Power Down, the bloody thing shuts down so bloody quickly, it's truely amazing. Why do so many people who post to this video say this computer is a iMac G2? There never was such a thing as a G2.
Heh, its obvious laptoplover2 doesn't have a clue what hes talking about. Apple computer never had a G2 processor. Prior to the PowerPC processors (dating back to the beginning), Apple had the Motorola 68000, 68020, 68030, and the 68LC040/68040. Then came the Power PC 601, 603e, 604, and 604e processors. After that is when Apple introduced the G3 (aka the PPC 750),? G4 (aka PPC 7450), and G5 (aka PPC 970fx)processors. Ever since, Apple has been using the Intel processors in their computers.
Well, he's right, G3 indeed refers to the CPU and not the actual version/design of the system, there never was such a thing as an iMac G2, the first iMac released in 1998 was the iMac G3, and this is clearly a 1998/early 1999 model iMac G3. How much experience have you had with iMacs?
G3 IS the processor! The PowerPC G3 processor. There was never such processor as a G2. Before the G3 was the PowerPC 604e processor.
There is no "version" of the computer. The first iMacs in 1998 had the tray-loading CD drive. They were called iMac G3. In 1999 they were redesigned with a slot-loading CD drive. Because they still used the G3 processor, they were still called iMac G3.
When the next-generation iMac came out in 2002, it used the PowerPC G4 processor, so it was called iMac G4.
i don't care just leave me alone. I know that there is no G2 Processor and now all Macs have Intel Processors, Core2 Duo I think except for the Mac Pro which has the Intel Xeon Processor.
laptoplover2: You ARE one dumb idiot. Where the hell did you get your brain out of, a box of cheerios? The G3 *is* the processor. There is no such thing as a G3 "version". Maybe you should crack open a book or something and read up on things before you post something you obviously don't have a clue on.
there were 2 versions, the Tray loading iMac G3 and the slot loading one which is also G3. The Tray loading one came first. then apple redesigned it into the slot loading one, and they also removed the infrared bit at the front. (and i know this is a G3 coz i got the same one)
You can put mac OS X 10.2.8 Jaguar on it and you don't need a lot of RAM, just more than 128 MB and you don't need a DVD Drive, just CD-ROM! IF you want 10.3.9 Panther, youll need 256 MB RAM and a CD-ROM drive. Tiger REQUIRES a DVD-ROM drive and 512 MB RAM will help. But you'll need XPostFacto 4 to install Tiger without FireWire. I hope this helps!
i have one of these that someone gave me and i can't even watch youtube videos on it because it says that macromedia (or whatever the company is) doesn't even support os 9 any more i guess. i'm going to try to buy a 600 mhz logic board on ebay for like $50 and up the ram etc. to run 10.4
Better yet, put in 512 of ram, update firmware, and update to 10.4.10 or save up for a newer or new imac. os9 is dead, G3s are dying very quickly. Even some G4s will be obsolete when 10.5 comes out. Love my G3 snow 700mhz, but the writing is on the wall.

There never was a processor actually named G2,
There were many iMac models, the older models had the tray load where iMacs from late 1999 to 2002 had slot loading,
the newer G4 iMac had tray, since imac g5 its always slot
