For people who saw the movie "10" (1979) with Bo Derek, who had this song ruined for them, watching this animated film (from 1976) was the perfect mental/psychological antidote.
I used to watch this when I was a kid on ON TV. That was about 20 years ago, at least. Damn, that ages me. This is just as powerful today as it was then. Thanks for posting this.
First time I ever saw this video was on, The Arts Ch. around 3:00am on a weekend, stoned. After seeing it I had a long debate with myself if this was real or not. So glad it is!
@QueenBoadicea Type "coca cola bolero" or "coca cola sleepwalker" into the Youtube search engine. I tried to give you the link but apparently we aren't allowed to post links in the comments section on Youtube. It's not exactly like the Allegro Non Troppo Bolero sequence, but it's hard to believe that the Coca Cola company isn't aware of the similarities.
@VertigoBee I haven't drunk colas since my teens. But this was a great commercial nonetheless. (I especially like the end where he's petting that hyena.) Things DO go better with Coke. ;P
Life from Coke? That remember me something: "The Genesis Tub" in the Simpsons' episode Treehouse of Horror VII surely takes cue from Allegro non troppo!
CGI just doesn't have the warmth and organic feel that hand drawn animation has. Why? Because it was drawn by a human being with emotions and reasoning, not an unfeeling machine which spits out drawings and colors in an assembly line style. I will NEVER embrace CGI and hope that 2D animation and all those talented artists are once again given the respect they deserve.
Yes I do realize that, thank you. I meant that EVERYTHING in these old-school animation flicks is hand drawn (backgrounds, special effects, etc.) along with the characters. Nowadays, if you want to conjure up half these things, there's very little effort as certain software does the job for you. Machines don't allow for the full appreciation of the blood, sweat & tears that go into making an animated feature. Clicking a mouse will never compare to the skill of wielding a pencil.
I will never tire of watching this style of animation. Makes me want to roll out my tracing paper and just get wild with form, color, movement and all else the stroke of a hand can produce.

I am Italian but I speak very little English. I did not know Allegro non troppo existed in America. However, it is better than Fantasia.

This sequence reminded me not just about what I love about foreign films but also why I want to make animated movies the traditional way.

You, uh, do realize that 3D models are created and animated by animators too, don't you?
