  • First time I heard her was on the "No Nukes " album. Superb.

  • Mine and David Crosby`s favourite singers in the world. Nice to know he thinks the way I do.

  • the first song I ever heard from her is "Something To Talk About' and then I keep on craving for more of her songs until I ended up collecting a lot of her albums...

  • I've ben in love with Bonnie from the beginning............I thought I had died when she first sang Love Me Like A Man......she's been helping the Fathers and Mothers of the Blues from the beginning.from Lightning to Sippie Wallace to John Lee...Bonnie is a national treasure.and rocks harder than most guys.........She ought to be on Mt.Rushmore

  • best version of this song

  • I saw Bonnie in Richmond Va, mid 80's, there were a handful of people in the audence, people just didn't know how great she really was!

  • The song was written by John Prine, you should listen to some of his other songs, he some fantastic stuff

  • i would pay her a million dollars to sing this song just for me at my house

  • This is such a pure and simply beautiful song

  • I have never heard this before, but really like it. It's definitely a sweet song.

  • Bonnie I love your style!

  • Soulful ....

  • Great guitar player, great singer, great to party, back in the day at Jacks.

  • she is brilliant! can't believe I've been bothered to properly listen to her music before now. was i missing out? or was i missing out!!!

  • Im here just cuz kristen stewart :D

    K STEW IS BETTER :)

  • @ILOVECUPCAKES555 ...if you really think so i'm so sorry.

  • Is it just me. Or did Women back in the 1970s with less make up on look naturally better looking than most Women today that have to smother their face in make up on,boob jobs, and too many butt enhancement surgeries. Women didn't need science and medical invention surgeries to make them look better 30-50 years ago.

  • Pure soul. This song is beautiful and a classic.

  • Bonnie rules on this song!

  • Gives me chills every time.

  • I am in love with this.

  • I don't believe I have seen Bonnie this young in a video. i saw her in about 1972 at an amphitheater in Honolulu. Opened for Jackson Brown. By the end of JB's set Bonnie and her whole band were on stage with JB's whole band, One of the best concerts EVER.

  • I think it's seldom that someone sings a song written by someone else who truly understands the song and sings it from their soul. This is one of those few. Bonnie certainly does it justice - it's one of my ultimate favorites!

  • -Babyohbabyifi saids this SUCKS

  • ... And I love the hell out of Bonnie Raitt!!

  • I'm a cowboy. Not much to look at, just a free-ramblin' man.

  • reminds me of of my own husband....zero in common....huichol53......

  • I've been listening to her for years and she still sends shivers down my spine. This woman is the consummate musician. She has talent and soul and understands the Blues.

  • Fantastic song. I get goosebumps every time I hear it.

  • The Most beautiful song I've ever heard...huichol53.........

  • God she's hot

  • 1.000 Thumbs up !!

  • I LIKE HER MUSIC! that's USA style!

  • she was a drug taker.

  • @chrysina2011 I think you are on drugs.

  • @chrysina2011 Few in the 60's and the 70's weren't taking drugs of some kind or another....listen to the music..THAT is her gift.

  • @chrysina2011

She has also been clean for 20 years and speaks in schools and prison about sobriety. What useful thing have you done for others lately?

  • hey original bad bob how do you want your horse

  • Absolutely LOVE this song especially Bonnie's version. It doesn't get any better! TY so much for sharing it <3

  • For me, John Prine's greatest composition. BR's is the definitve version.

The third verse is set up by the beautifully poignant first two. The comment on her cowboy husband's behaviour becomes an ironic self-condemnation of her own. Her apathy is so incapacitating she can't rouse herself to do something as insignificant as swatting those flies.

And yet there is a strong undercurrent of sympathy for both protagonists.

The melody and phrasing are wonderfully suited. A masterpiece.

  • This is Bonnie's flag ship. She's been signing this song since the 70's

  • good thing I did not see this after she performed it when she was 25 years old. if I did I may have stalked her until she agreed to marry me, then who knows where her career would have gone......

relax, just kidding folks. but absolutely astounding. the poetry,(thank you john prine!) the phrasing, the expression, the emotion, amazingly beautiful.

  • A great John Prine song, done beautifully by the multifaceted Bonnie Raitt...

  • 26 haters think kristen stewar's version is better...IDIOTS!!!!

  • One of the Greatest Blues and Rock-n-roll Singers and Guitar players OF ALL TiME! She won 3 Grammy's in one night! Also, one of the sexiest women who ever lived!

  • Bonnie doesnt need dancers and a light show. Just herself and a guitar. A gift from Heaven.

  • This sister can sang!!!

  • Anyone who doesn't like this song has serious tone deafness!

  • AMAZING!!

  • She is 25 here and sings and phrases like she had been doing it 40 years Wow ahead of her time and even better now.

  • I LOVE Bonnie's voice. This song brings tears to my eyes and gives me goosebumps

  • Chills, need i say more. John Prine wrote this one if you love the song check out some more of Johns works hes truly a unique and gifted song writer

  • Remember Shaboo Inn, Willimantic, Connecticut,...Sitting on the floor at her feet... along with my friend Mark and a few others lucky enough to get that close. W didn't move ! Mesmarized watching the chording... Her voice was gorgeous. We had to stay there during break to keep our seats. She went over to the bar and shared a doobey lol

  • she makes you feel her music!

  • bonnie, best in the biz!

  • goldroom1 - You got that right - I saw her in 1974 and have been smitten ever since! She had a little dog that slept under her chair on stage.

  • Good, very good..!

  • I saw Bonnie as a warm up act to Jackson Brown on November 1, 1974 in Foster Auditorium at the University of Alabama. During the show Bonnie brought out an old black man to play with her. She knew him from her father who had played toured in the area. He was down on his luck and needed work. Because of Bonnie he ended up getting some steady gigs in town for a long time. I was not only blown away by her music but how she used her stage to help an old man. Not many musicians would have done so

  • @uncletupelo96

    Mostly.

  • Of course she sings this! Weird how I am listening to this great music, and it happens to be in Into the Wild (even though Kristen Stewart sings it lol)

  • Makes me think of my momma. Anyone out there seen her???

  • My favorite song! She is amazing!

  • @gradlegirl yes she is amazing, but lets give props to the writer John Prine!!! Greatest living country songwriter alive today:)

  • @mtealey34 Could never forget John Prine! He is classic!!! Definitely agree with you!

  • Every time I hear this song it brings up all kinds of emotions. One of my most favorites songs!!! She is awesome.

  • Listen to this early version, and then her more recent. She had the story right when she first did this song; but now she sings it after having living the emotions. Will always will be a great song when done by Bonnie.

  • My favorite from Bonnie. Reminds me of how things get after 40 years of marraige. At this stage in your life it's imperative to develop an interest of your own. Huichol53.......

  • sam phillips, barry gordy, clive davis ahmet ertegun, john hammond, businessmen with SOULS and EARS and HEARTS! sure they had a bottom line, sales, profits, etc.but those guys and others like them were also PASSIONATE ABOUT THE MUSIC ITSELF..they took chances and signed talented artists like Bonnie ! Todays music is like baloney sandwiches on a conveyer belt because of soulless corporate robots ,empty suits with MBAs, and no hearts, ears or balls the talent IS out there, but not getting signed.

  • @jpalberthoward9 What you say is too good for a reply,++Thumbs Up

  • One of the most beautiful, perfect songs ever written, and Bonnie performs it best of all.

  • Ahhhhhhhhh.........

  • My gawd, this girl is something. Thanks for putting it out there.

  • I used to sing this song as a lullaby to my daughter. Bonnie does it better but my version did the job.:) Some day I will be able to listen to this song with dry eyes. Aint there yet.

  • Love you, Bonnie... Been "with you" since the BEGINNING! You are - AWESOME - I LOVE your SOUL... Kathleen

  • A great version of a John Prine classic...she made it her own.

  • 24 people can suck it.

  • Thumbs up to my parents for giving me Bonnie Raitt

  • Best Version of this tune anywhere

  • thumbs up if Lock and Key brought you here?

  • Wow, she's so young in this video...

  • fantastic

  • The women of music from the 60-80s are better than the current 'singers'! So sad.

  • Amazing song. Amazing talent.

  • It doesn't get much better than Ms. B when she plays guitar. THANX! Catch her live ANYTIME you can.

  • That's Will McFarlane on the tele.

  • Bonnie Rait and Norah Jones did a version of Tennessee Waltz together. Normally celebrity duets are worse than either one doing it alone, but this one was really good.

  • Beautiful!

  • One of the finest songs of the 20th century.

  • 24 people have lost their freakin' minds...AMAZING song and performance. John Prine + Bonnie Raitt = Epic Success

  • I JUST FOUND MY NEW FAVORITE SONG!!!!!!! *-*

  • She performed this and others over the Bicentennial Weekend '76 in Sonoma County. My date & I had Bonnie's albums separately and we embraced as she sang. True romance.

Bonnie & her band performed here in Feb. '11, just days before Clapton came through town. Ole EC got nothin' on this gal. Man, she can play slide. An icon. An institution.

  • @kdauphinee That's EC, on the Strat, behind Bonnie

  • @theoriginalbadbob not to start an argument, i promise im not judging ;) but the guy behind her is playing a tele. Doesnt mean its not EC tho

  • @tremalow It's so dark behind her that it's hard to see anything, but I'm pretty sure, from the way he stands, his profile, and the very short riff he plays, that it's Clapton. Isn't she a BABE, and isn't this a great song sung by a great singer?

  • @theoriginalbadbob I'm honored, but it was me playing a Tele behind her in the dark.

  • @Willmcfarlane1 is one of the finest guitar players to ever come out of the Muscle Shoals area/scene and folks that is really saying something when you think about who some of those others were.

  • great song

  • been listening to this vid for so long now, not sure if I already commented or not, but Thank You 'cruelpetra' ... I love it !! cheers, Cat (gg)

  • Jessica who? gave a better rendition - can't find her wish I could

  • timeless-

  • 24 dislikes? I pity them. What a fabolous and underrated artist. Luv'ya, Bonnie!

  • 24 fools need to be purged from the gene pool.

  • the stuff i grew up on

  • Weren't we all younger back then. She still sings this J. Prine classic live, and still makes it real. Thanks for the memory!

  • Is that an ES175 she's playing?

  • What a stunningly beautiful voice! Effortless!

  • absolutely the way it was meant to sound, no doubts. Half of the views must be from me....

  • Still love your talent Ms. Bonnie. Saw you in the 70's and still am a fan. Best of every thing to you and yours!

  • Bonnie Raitt is pure quality and brilliant slide guitarist

  • We saw this sweet voiced angel perform on Legion Field at the University of Georgia around 1976. We were all blown away. A night to remember.

  • i love you

  • Bonnie is such an original. So instantly recognizable with the most distinctive phrasing..

  • @greeneyedstone42 are you implying that she wrote this song.... or just that she is original for recording it...

  • @greeneyedstone42 Funny you say that on a video of her covering John Prine

  • @TheDuckmonk lol I was referring only to the quality of her voice. No one sounds quite like Bonnie!!

  • @greeneyedstone42 She didn't write this one though... John Prine did.

  • I think it's awesome to hear her sing a song written for her. It was meant to be. Kinda like Guy Clark's "The Guitar" song where the guitar sat in the corner waiting for the player to return. Such great music we have here in Texas.

  • @uncletupelo96 people don't think no more it's a shame for people of today, few only can go deep!

  • saw her in maui hi in 1977 she is as good as she has ever been.

  • ooo, an SM54. Don't see those around much anymore.

  • @krivindontanai Is that an ES175 she's playing?

  • hard to believe a man wrote this ...JP is just different...does not often write about himself... sees songs in others

  • I love Bonnie...all please take time to listen to john prine original version... if you like this also try "Sam Stone" by the same...best song about addiction ever written.."Sam Stone was alone when he popped his last ballon (heroin)... climbing walls while sitting in a chair... and the room smelled just like death as he made his last request... with an overdose hovering in the air" the man could just write

  • I'm fifteen and this has been my favorite song for as long as I can remember. My mom sang it to me when I was a baby (:

  • I've been in love with her music since the early 70s. The voice and the soul have kept me safe and warm.

  • This makes me weak in the knees......

  • Theres something about her voice. Its soothing

  • "If dreams were thunder and lightnig was desire this old house would have burnt down a long time ago."Best line ever written.Thank you Mr.Prine.We just love that you are on this planet.

  • v nice

  • If you don't fall in love her a little bit then you're soulless and evil

  • @goldroom1 YES

  • @goldroom1 i love her too but damn...

    fuck it, maybe you're right.

  • @goldroom1 I've been in love with her for about 40 years

  • It would awesome and totally make sense if she sang this song as a 'duet' with Gregg Allman. If she was a man, she'd sound a lot like Gregg Allman (and vice versa).

  • Pure God Damn soul!!!!

  • I love this song...

  • Kristen Stewart Brought me Here

  • Wow. This is the best version of this song I've ever heard. Amazing!

  • Eu passaria um dia inteiro só ouvindo essa música, sem fazer mais nada...

  • sweet sweet bonnie ..played with the best bluesmen...love her

  • incredible <3

  • Fire Crotch Angel..

  • Bonnie Raitt and Janis Joplin were my favorite female singers. Still are.

  • my decesed wifes favorite and saw her alot in boston

  • love it ..such a hard row to hoe

  • Heard her do this around that time on KFAT radio out of Gilroy Ca. Still love it!!!!

  • the best version <3 very nice voice

  • Magic...

  • Bonnie has been my favorite singer for my entire life. There are many excellent singers of many different styles; some that have voices that seem to defy human ability- for example Chaka Khan- of course an entirely different style, but with Bonnie it's the texture, the timber, the style and the soul . She's the baddest woman singer and guitar player on the planet.

  • @Bowskeecho : preach!!!

  • @TheFamilyForder - sorry, I didn't mean to sound preachy. I JUST LOVE that woman. :)

  • @Bowskeecho : no need to apologize. I was encouraging your praise of Ms. Raitt.

  • ok all 22 miley fans leave this masterpiece, AT PEACE

-Sincerely, people who knows good music

  • love this song a local artist here in bouse rebecca scott singsthis and itis just as beautiful as this

  • How can you possibly dislike this song?!?

  • this song kills, but it is even better with mr john prine

  • @shawnkelly91 i have been searching for it with john prine on youtube forEVER it seems....do you know of it?

  • Ahhh... Bonny Bonnie.

  • I'm not sure there's ever been a better songwriter than john prine. Good music is good music. Doesn't need labels like "country" or "blues". It just is....

  • dang jemassolo .. gonna be hard to disagree more with you ... lol ... Bonnie is just like the very finest burgundy wine ... Fantastic, formidable, lovely and gorgeous... and keeps getting better and better all the time ...

  • i'd run away from home with her...

  • Hey Miley, you need to watch this- this is what is called talent

  • Good Lord JACKS BAR Peoples Republic Of Cambridge ......... Too few of us know of that place . You gotta be older than dirt ........ Me too .... So many people played there that turned up to be Major Players. Bonnie used to live in Cambridge and got her start there ...... Long Live Freebo

  • Bonnie is such a talented musician, singer and song-writer. I've lover her for decades. Thanx gal you are the best<3
