one question only... i got a Q-Tron+ too, but... it looses many enough low frequenxy notes... especially when im in drop d tuning... do you also have that problem??
Well it depends on the settings you use, I usually have the gain pretty low to give it a more steady tone. With more gain the effect becomes more sensitive to the finger/slap attack on the strings.
@impulsoprog Hi, the bass is a Fernandes FAB170. It is a series 1 alembic copy made in '79. They are pretty rare basses, only a small amount of them were made. Currently there is one for sale on the Japanese yahoo auction site if your interested :)
i have a qtron pedal but can't get any kind of decent sound out of it, it sounds like a farting duck! you seem to have a better sound but I still think that players like Bootsy collins must be using a whole lot of other stuff to get his effects not just one pedal, its very frustrating getting the tone I can hear in my head!
@Ahbootsybaby, you naikled it al lright - Bootsy has a BIG pedalboard with all kinds of things - ProCo Rat, Big Muff, Morley Bass Wah and his collection of like 3 old Mu-Tron IIIs, EHX Bass MicroSynth, the Snarling Dogs Bootzilla (named for him obviously) are just some that come to mind. I think putting distorion before the envelope folloiwer might get you closer?...anyway good luck.
that's awesome!! funny, i was just using a q-tron yesterday and it sounds better than my mu-tron 3. thank you for the tip! i finally figured out if the gain is low, i could get more of a thick cosmic effect out of it, just like in your video.
could you tell me the settings on your q-tron as this is probably the best sounding envelope filter effect through bass i have ever heard, & i've heard many.
Hi, this effect and this alembic bass are a marriage! the sound is awesome! your feel and playing is awesome too! :)
could you tell me if you are using a "q-tron" or a "q-tron plus"? is it a "new" or "old" one? i can't get my original "mu-tron 3" to sound this good..
also, what kind of alembic bass is that?!..
awesome groove btw. :D
thanks, any feedback would be highly appreciated..
Hi thanks very much. I used a normal qtron here, but the + sounds exactly the same. The + has an extra loop option i believe, other then that it does the same as this version.
The bass is an alembic copy made by fernandes. they were made between 1978 and 1981 so I'm told.
Great your tone is killer, but i want to hear some enveloped fingering... i was searching for this same tone, aggressive on the attack and a bit smoother on the sustain..! Is that the QTron + or the QTron?
The QTron have a loop that bypass are your effects and a drive knob while the normal QTron doesn't right? If it is I'm going to buy a QTron +... it sound great and is very useful!
Heya and thanks. I used the (old version) Qtron+ here with very minimal settings and with the gain and peek very low resulting in a nice punchy sound, but not really the "wah kinda" enveloped sound. There are many different sound types you can get out of the Qtron. And yeah the plus version has a drive switch and a booster. You can also get the B00tsy sound wich sounds great and with the drive you can get a little distortion going on aswell.
I've buyed a CryBaby wah, now I'm going to buying a tuner and this effect to complete my pedalboard... I think the Plus model, cause have one more knob and the loop, and the price in some shop is very similar (like 10$ of difference)
Its a big pity indeed lol! I recently had the oppertunity to play on a real series I again and the sound is sooo much better, although the playability was a bout the same, Fernandes did a good job on the bass...its just the electronics thats not all that.
Still, the Fernandes has a good, but different sound. Im happy with my copy...if i would have the money for the real thing i would buy one ofcourse :)
Awsome skill dude ;)

hi your sound is very nice! how did you set your q tron?? pls help me, i cant find a good sound with mine...
mikeergt 1 year ago
@mikeergt Hi thanks :)
Dont remember the exact settings anymore (long time ago I recorded this), but i should have used a low range, very low gain and around 3/4 peak open.
Of course the total sound is always a combination of the actual bass sound and the effect. The better the bass, the better the Qtron sounds.
I think I also messed with the tonefilter on the bass a bit in this recording to make it sound more dirty and snappy.

What settings were you using in this video, I've been trying to get a similar tone and it
would make a nice place to start from.
Cheers
marcosroad 2 years ago
Ohh not exactly sure anymore. But I think I had the gain very low and the peak around 3/4 open, set at low range.
I usualy just play with the settings a bit to find the right sound for the type of jam I want to play.

Thanks, I just bought an old Qtron+ and I'm just trying to get the hang of using it.

Hey, love it! Quick question: what are you using for the drum beat?
iadans 2 years ago
Heya thanks :)
The drums are from the software program 'band in a box'. It has pretty good beats in there.
