  • Nope Juno 6 is DCO just have a look at the front panel on one even says DCO on the osc section. I just sold mine and replaced it with a AX60.

  • @IHaveSynthed

NIICE! Traded "up" for an AX-60. ;) I just got a S612 for free! we'll see if it's worth lugging it out for gigs... but I have a hunch that having a sample as second "oscillator" will make this board a whole different animal...

  • Fantastic Hammond Organ sound at 00:03:00

Is this machine really a poor-man's Juno 60?

  • @Chewbamma It's more like the abusive alcoholic father of the Juno's. It can cover pretty much the entirety of the Juno sound (same chips even) but it can also do a bit more that the Juno synths can't i.e. filter FM and resonance that can obliterate your hearing. Very underrated and very amazing.

  • @FatSynthDude

Not the same chips... the AX-60 uses the Curtis CEM3394 which is a VCO (analog oscillator) "synth-on-a-chip" and has a digital envelope... the Juno 6/60 is a DCO based synth with IR3R01 (analog envelope), IR3109 (filter), and BA662 (amplifier) chips. It is however very much a "cracked-out" Juno in terms of control and function. The AX-60 is a VERY underrated synth. the AX-60 also has a bitimberal/split keyboard and a sampler input to layer or split sampled sounds.

  • @TheMilford I could've sworn the Juno 6 was VCO. *takes a trip off to space*

  • @TheMilford So the envelopes are software generated in the AX60, rather than with something like a CEM3310? Would love to take a peek at the schematic.

  • @apprenticemart2

Yes... this was fairly common in polysynths of this era. Not sure why they went VCO on this board... but maybe they got a deal on the chips or the DCO/VCO debate was a factor back then as well. I have the service manual... eventually I will scan it and post it somewhere.

  • I was gonna get a korg r3, but then i saw an akai ax-60 in a local classified ad for like 100 dollars.

  • That's the Akai Ax-60 in case anyone wasn't sure. Good demonstration!

  • that keyboard is mad old , i saw they had one for sale in sam ash one time in raleigh ,nc i was gonna get it but i was like it mite not have any good sounds in it.

  • @sabotagebeatz - yea it's not for you then brotha. This is for making your own sounds, not some cheap preset synth.

  • badass. I used to want a Korg, now I want an Akai.
