this year a lot of games in this genre have gotten bad reviews, why, because they're not skyrim, why, because ign is reviewing them and ,not saying it out loud, comparing them to skyrim. This is meant to be a good old hack and slasher, and the reintroduction of lord of the rings to next gen consoles

If this isn't factual evidence that shows IGN will appriciate any form of game I don't know what is. This games reminds me of Baulders Gate on the ps2, very fun but a "repetitive" combat system. May I also add that ALL the footage...at least gameplay was in the very first level. The games visuals aren't anything to ride home about but the gameplay is pretty fun and gorey. They just do reviews based on what THEY think, thats not to say thats what you think. Rent it and see if you like it don't base it on a review...and if all the reason you hate IGN is cause of the Cod review...you needa chill.

It doesn't matter if this game doesn't get us back into that "Middle Earth state of mind" that we had in the early 00's because we have only 11 months before The Hobbit comes out in theatres! Not to mention it's going to be in two parts! Not only is it being directed by Peter Jackson again, but many characters will be played by the same actors from The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy! So it's guaranteed to be epic, make us nostalgia, and put us into that "Middle Earth state of mind" once again!

Have to disagree IGN. This is an incredible game, and I find the combat addictive: pulling off awesome finishers never gets old. And the story is great, I think it balances really well against the original. Plus: Agandaur is EPIC.

Wow, I can't believe how much they copied Dragon Age 2... I mean, the UI is basically the same, Dialogue Wheel is the same, combat same. This game is overrated...
You will love or hate this game... No in the middle... I found the game to be great... the inability to switch characters SUCK... however online and even split screen was very fun... The review unfortunately does not go deep enough into the game because there are lots of different monsters as well as some interesting characters.
If you play by yourself, OKAY. But with a friend, its the bomb. I have pulled 3 all nighters playing co-op/split-screen, and I love it. All the conversations, the WOWS, the OMG's, the fun, the good times, the trading, the complaining, and the memories. A GREAT GAME TO PLAY WITH A FRIEND!

I wouldn't mine a LOTR game just about the actual movie. Sure there is one, but remade with better graphics and better missions. After the missions you usually got experience orbs that let you get better moves and stuff. Like the leveling system in this game but a bit more. Not just have the main characters but be able to play other characters that maybe link up in the end or just was there before. It could also be a bit like Skyrim, be able to move freely. Or at least incorporate it somehow.

This game is actually incredible, he knows not what he is on about! The combat is addictive and the story is simple yet intriguing, and if you're like me and my mate and like to take the piss out of everythin, you'll definately have a gd few laughs with this =)

@TheSquareGamers Although CoD may have the same weapons and shit the combat is not repetitive because you are playing different people who have different strategies all the time.
this is actually better than gears 3 with the A.I. and everything to tell you the truth, their both great but when your fellow gears run the opposite direction when your down even when their right next to you, it really ticks me off, in this they stop fighting to come right over to heal you
This review is a lot harsh on the game, well, actually all IGN's reviews are bad with most of the games that are kick-ass. I bought this game a few days ago, and actually i've finished it really quickly. The game is good, it gives you another perspective of Middle-earth, has an all brand-new history, has some nice killing scenes, but i have to say, it's pretty much the same during all the game, the gameplay was the only thing that killed it, it passed from an awsome RPG to an action game, fail.
Haven't actually played this title but, looking at past ign ratings they are usually really harsh on lots of decent or even good games. Not sure I'll pay the $60 but ill prolly buy this game when it drops in price a bit.
can someone please explain to me how we came from Battle for middle-earth 2 and the LOTR: The Third Age to this shit? They needed to make this game play like Skyrim, and be able to create your characters to a further extent. I like it, but it's riddled with problems
* Its easy to get stuck
* Sometimes your companions ditch you and don't come back till the checkpoint.
* You have no real hand in the Fellowship storyline(more of personal grievance of mine)
* Combat is tedious and unbareably hard, it turns into "Dynasty Warriors" after chapter 2. So I have to give it a 6.5/10

@Rakeization Sure. Snowblind is pretty one-sided. But there is only so much that can happen until the next gen-consoles are here. Skyrim is fine, but it's not what it should be... And about LOTR, ofc every1 was disappointed, just imagine a open world multiplayer rpg (I mean real rpg where all players can have a impact on the game-world in different ways). With the next gen-consoles maybe that will happen. (Yeah, it was foolish of some to think that would be the case with LOTR: war in the north)

I'd have to agree with 7 because I'm glad that Lord of the Rings is re-entering the series and I hope that they pull off an Ubisoft (The transition they made from Assassin's Creed to Assassin's Creed 2) Although this is not worse than Assassin's Creed so I except War in the North 2 (if that ever happens) to be leagues above this; if not, I lose hope for this franchise.

What we always wanted was to see the Middle Earth, well here its not even an RPG, you just move thought the levels, get coins, buy items
But i suggest everyone to play Skyrim

They have mountains, and it snows at the top, forests, bandits, trolls and goblins, also dragons

FINALLY a solid review of this game. Everyone else is just, "HATE, HATE, HATE, NOT GOOD". I mean, these people actually take it from a LOTR fan's standpoint. Any LOTR fan would appreciate this game. To me it doesn't look like a terrible game, could've been done better. But I mean hey, this isn't the first action RPG with bland combat to ever be made. Thanks IGN for giving this game a break!

This review is a lot harsh on the game, well, actually all IGN's reviews are bad with most of the games that are kick-ass. I bought this game a few days ago, and actually i've finished it really quickly. The game is good, it gives you another perspective of Middle-earth, has an all brand-new history, has some nice killing scenes, but i have to say, it's pretty much the same during all the game, the gameplay was the only thing that killed it, it passed from an awsome RPG to an action game, fail.

Haven't actually played this title but, looking at past ign ratings they are usually really harsh on lots of decent or even good games. Not sure I'll pay the $60 but ill prolly buy this game when it drops in price a bit.
