my beef is this out of all the hispanics that i have met or had to deal with as a former military and working in enforcemnt the cubans play the role that better suites

there needs and some puerto ricans . i had a high ranking supervisor who looked white but his father was cuban and mother puerto rican this was known by the whites and blacks. when i first met him he stated he was italian. until they needed a minority supervisor then all of a sudden he was hispanic

As a Cuban I don't necessarily find your comment offensive, but I do pity you. Do you think Cubans really care about what other hispanics think of us? @GRAPEPONY I'm assuming you are latino/hispanic of some kind and hating on Cubans won't get your people (whomever they are) a single additional right. To say that 70% of people in Cuba are "pure black africans" is absurd. The only Spanish-speaking country in the world with that kind of "pure african" population is Equatorial Guinea which happens to be in Africa. It's hard to find a country in Latin America with a 70% pure anything, much less black African.

That leaves about 1/3 of the population of European descent, a higher proportion than most Latin American countries. But Cuba's demographics are besides the point. Cubans of predominantly European background like Marco Rubio don't speak about black Cubans any less than white Mexicans for example speak about their indigenous compatriots.

@GRAPEPONY Cuban society has it's origins in the slave economy of the 19th century and racism and race/class differences certainly exist within Cubans, but not in any greater degree than what you see in the rest of Latin America where whites own most of the wealth and the blacks/indigenous remain impoverished. Cuban-Americans have never viewed themselves as the "non-white other" when compared to anglos and don't share the same "complejos" as other hispanics with regards to race and class.
