i think the translation is incorrect. they're saying "contact: initiating", then "contact: confirmed", then "define location", then "location definition: (CODE)", then "location definition: affirmative". something like that. it's really hard to compare the tones for finding patterns, the sound quality is rather low and impure in this video.
@Rolfstunner I think you've got it the wrong way round! This language is much simpler for the robots. It's clearly not dynamically evolving (must have 'hello'/'where are we' hard programmed in). The english language is far, far to advanced to teach to these simple robots, what with all its idioms, innuendos, subtle nuances, etc. Think of how many ways there are to describe a bathroom, for instance!
Bad translated.... Robot A said "You wanna suck my battery? B said "Ok lets go to this room and do it there,so the stupid people who build us cant see it" And they went away...
"Adorable"??? Hardly, in mho. Sounds like a baby playing on a phone.nlso, the words for "hi there" seemed to be the same as the words for "where are we?" so they don't have much range apparently. I find it very primary and not really language at all. After they beeped, I think someone just made up what they were supposed to be "saying". It is an interesting concept tho.
Language acquisition is without question the most complex task any human will perform in their lifetime. It's going to be a long time before we can simulate it in robots, but this is certainly a start. And these robots aren't just learning language, they're creating their own!
I want this video on my N97 mini unit.
