could you do a tutorial on how to make a lightsaber hilt similar to that used by Ahsoka Tano. I like her unique hilt, and would like to see it recreated by a professional like yourself.
dude, love your vids, but i tried to find the materials to make that pop up sink drain lightsaber and it was super short, it was more like a Yoda saber than a regular length one, could you explain to me why this is, cause it looks a lot longer in the video
i have made one myself and it is short but you can go to the to a hardware store and a 6" or 12" and cut it down to 8" and it will work just fine but the 6" is cheaper and its just as good
how did u find out how to build these? they look real even though theyre not! how do u make the light sabers with the handle on the side like maris brood has?
Just wanted to post my appreciation for your great tutorials.
I just ordered 2 light-up sabers from ultrasabers for $40 each and am looking into ways to customize them. They haven't come in the mail yet but they're made out of thin PVC. Looks like lots of room to add fun things to the hilt.
Anyway. I'm rambling. Thank you for inspiration. If I come up with anything good, I'll post a video response with a thanks. :)
My first hardware saber was almost exactly like that I made. I left that screw on flange part on, covering the hole, I used vacuum tube painted black for the grip, cut off that side protrusion (i thought it was too bulbous, but I put an adjustment knob in it..) and used a pop up sprinkler as my pommel, which gave it some more length..
what i did was i took a 10'' by 1'' pvc pipe and painted it silver, then i took a pvc pipe cap and but end for the admiter end and the but cap, then used some electrical tape in sections for the grip and finally added some power dials.
lflank I made a great lightsaber for my boss the other day. It looked a bit like Mara Jade's saber but I painted it pink. When I gave it to her she was full of tears.
dude thats really cool. my dads a total nerd ad i myself like starwars, now i know how to make a cool gift for him and all without tools that a 14 yearold is "too young to use" thanks you ROCK!!!!!!!!
I gotta say, I love your videos, but the metal pop-up drains do work a bit differently since the screw on thingy isn't as big on them as the plastic ones, so you'll have to find another stopper. I'll probably be posting my on that kind soon enough.
i know what gray plastic sink drain you're talking about. my bathroom sink has this kind of drain and when I looked at it, it didn't seem like something like this would look good as a lightsaber
this is what i did get a pitcure of the hilt get a friend and walk around home depot/lowes and find things that look like it and spray paint always helps
thanx for the tutorials cuz me and my friends will be jedi/sith for halloween and we couldn't figure out how to make an awsome lightsaber prop for our costums. so thanx for the tutorial and can u see if u can make a tutorial for hilts with belt grips.
I am currently trying to make a star wars movie which will be released in the next few months, everything is goin swimmingly but i am having problems with lightsabers, do you think you could create a lightsaber for me and i could buy it off you, the other problem is im in the uk and i can tell by the accent ur american, even if i cant buy a prop from you, do you think you could create another movie. I like your work and i hope we can talk in the future.
I think the metal one would be cheaper. And it looks better by far. The painted ones aren't as shiny as the chrome ones, and you'll inevitably get runs and drips in the paint.
I'm actually gonna start making my own lightsabers as well for me and a few of my friends. Plus, I know alot of people who would buy one, so, I could make some money off of this. Anyways, thanks for providing me with a few more tips.
Oh no, I'm doing custom designs that the customer would like. I dont like copying anything thats already done. I'm definitly not going to make any similar to the hilts from the movies.
dude...you are AWESOME! have u considered affiliating yourself with the sith? if u refuse...well.. all i can say is"the ends justifies the means" join me.lol. you're too awesome not to join me.
Yep. The parts for all these sabers are pretty much interchangeable -- you can mix and match them all together in various ways until you come up with something that looks good.
I got it in a Lowe's. It is, IIRC, eight inches, and when you glue the little screw-on knob thingie to the end, it makes the total length of the saber about 9.5 inches. Any hardware store should have it.
For film props, I use 3/4 inch wooden dowels that I paint bright red. I wrap the bottom seven inches or so in foam rubber, then wrap that in duct tape until it fits snugly inside the handle. Not good for dueling, since the blade usually works itself loose after a while, but works just fine for filming.
If you want a lighted blade for dueling, the handle is completely hollow, so you can fit a polycarbonate blade with EL wire or diodes in there, along with batteries.
Instead of using a magic marker cap or dowel for the power button, find a long wood-screw with a wide top that fills in the hole where the power button goes. Then place your wooden dowel blade inside the handle, and screw the power button/screw into it to hold it in.
I like your videos. Better than most on here. I like ur designs, they look gud. I think i am gona build one now, but i think il go for the traditional kind, with the saber grip up towards the emitter end and have the power switch near the butt end.

Do you have any recommendations on what to use for the blade?
Meaning, is their anyway that I can attach something like a pole of some kind?
Also, nice tutorial for saber hilts.
Thetruetoast 3 years ago
For film props, I use 3/4 inch wooden dowels that I paint bright red. I wrap the bottom seven inches or so in foam rubber, then wrap that in duct tape until it fits snugly inside the handle. Not good for dueling, since the blade usually works itself loose after a while, but works just fine for filming.
If you want a lighted blade for dueling, the handle is completely hollow, so you can fit a polycarbonate blade with EL wire or diodes in there, along with batteries.
lflank 3 years ago
Well, actually, I was thinking of using them for duels, and editing the film later on...
Thetruetoast 3 years ago
Here's what I'd recommend:
Instead of using a magic marker cap or dowel for the power button, find a long wood-screw with a wide top that fills in the hole where the power button goes. Then place your wooden dowel blade inside the handle, and screw the power button/screw into it to hold it in.
Should survive all but the roughest dueling.
You can add the glow later by computer.
