Interesting, to me at least, is that in any interview I've seen of Danny or Tris, both have nothing but respect and praise for each other's playing. BOTH are phenomenal drummers with entirely different styles. Some of the arguments I see here ignorant at best and just plain stupid and mean at worst. In Tris' defense, his solos are better than Danny's. He doesn't swing like early Transit Authority, but then Danny didn't in later years either.
Hey Tris, this was so awesome, to hear you playing like this and to see you a bit too. Great solo!! I remember The Orphanage, The Honl Band..... and Mammoth Lakes, The Funk Bunnies....cool times, and K. Loggins World Tour, Lake Tahoe, great show, so fun......Hope life is fantastic for you , how could it not be! Wow, now Chicago! Congrats!!!! I always loved your performances and your smile and heart. Take care! Luv, Cathy /Cat
this solo takes the f'n cake and is extremely tasteful -- not just a gratuitous display of testosterone. boo to anyone who says he's not holding his sticks 'correctly.
i wasn't a fan of tris because i was a danny seraphine fan call it loyalty or what ever.then i saw an interview with tris and he spoke so highly of danny just showed a respect and then i listened to him and i guess what i like about him is that he kept some of the danny licks that he liked and added his own flavor which is a great.i am a fan of tris there is a lot i can learn from him
I think Tris is a great drummer!!! This solo is very nice!! The sound quality is kinda weird due to the live recording but I enjoy his compositional approach; very musical and interesting to the ears (at least for those of us who are drummers!) I love Danny Seraphine and Tris can never take his place in our hearts nor can he take away the fabulous recordings of the "Old Chicago." Until the reunion tour with Peter & Danny {probably never :-( } I will enjoy Tris & Jason if I get to see them live!
Go back to Kenny Loggins Live in the 80's and you can check out some classic Tris Imboden before hair plugs or whatever he did to get his locks back. But he was really good back then too. Great feel and time. George Hawkins and Tris made an excellent team and Loggins could perform pretty well back then. DS was an original and can't be replaced, but Tris at least does well in trying.
Thanks!! I'll check it out! I was never into Loggins that much but I'm getting much less selective in my older age. I saw an old concert (on TV) once with Tris on drums (late 70's?) and it was a great performance by Loggins and his band. Thanks again for the tip!
This is a fabulous solo, it it's deep on a lot of levels, technique, poyrhythms, power, and accessebility. Love Danny Seraphine as well, but they are very different player each with their own stlye.
Sooo true. People compare Tris and Danny but there is nooo comparison. They both ahve their own style. If they would have gotten a Danny clone, Chicago wouldnt have expanded in technique. Tris added a different drumming approach that I think is relevant to today's Chicago sound.
i gree. After watching both Seraphine's 7:00 clip here on the YourTube, and this colo by Tris, I have to say that Danny Seraphine KICKS tRiS iMbOdEn'S ass.
And Danny actually knows how to hold his sticks right. And Danny doesn't depend on Loudness All The Time to impress.
If I were a woman, I'd toss my panties up at the stage, aimed at Danny Seraphine. But I'm a guy so I don't even think of doing such things.
Danny wasnt that good ...he was A JAZZ drummer playing with a ROCK & ROLL band......Tris can play one handed and kick Danny's ass.....Danny wanted to be the boss and didnt focus on what he was suppossed too ...which was playing te drums...thats Y he aint there...great move
pak3857 Are you talking about Seraphine??? Listen dough brain to all the early chicago recordings again- Tris has NOTHING on Seraphine except an awful lot of expensive hair pieces in case you haven't noticed!!!
I agree with you. Danny also swung. Tris has chops but who cares. I can program a machine to sound like that. Danny also has chops but he uses them musically!!!
@BigBoiJC Clearly your cracked- Danny did all the heavy lifting- Imboden is now just playing in a has been oldies band that's popular with Older Women because of the Pathetic ballads that Chicago became popular for in it's much later incarnations. Big Whoop.
Your wrong Pak3857. Danny wasn't good.........he was great Danny is a Jazz and Rock drummer. Unfortunatly Chicago fell into the Ballad stuff. And with that slow beat stuff, it probably diminished his skills. Now that he's back out touring with the California Transit Authority......you'll be able to hear the difference
well you doubt wrong. listen to chicago's big band album and you'll hear him play jazz great. and about Seraphine, Chicago kicked him out of the band for good reason. his playing was getting really dull and boring by the end of the 80s. very uncreative.
wig !!! Finally, in 2010, Tris is bald !!!

bill champlin, the "old man" keyboard player is actually 2 years younger that robert lamm, the other keyboard player and co-frontman
he has not only been with chicago for 30+ years but won grammies writing hits for george benson and earth, wind, and fire
tris is one of the greatest drummers
both he and is drum sets are much better than that of the overrated neil pert!

Danny was fired because of politics inside the group. It is obvious that no drummer will never match the great master Danny.

Hi drwcubs,
I guess Danny Seraphine was entitled to get a bit bored after 21 albums with the one band!
However, there is no way Trish Imboden could ever play to the standard of Mr Seraphine, except maybe in his dreams!
