  • I remember having super expensive tickets to Bette's concert. In the limo ride there my mother drank too much and once we arrived and she started singing, my mom puked everywhere!! Sitting just rows from the stage too. Needless to say, she was kicked out by security, twice. Oh wait..that was me, sorry mom! lol!!

  • does ANYONE know why this scene was not in the film?

  • @lonely71 it probably wasn't in the movie because as it stands, it wouldn't have fit with the bluesy - rock n roll image of the character. just my speculation.

  • @lonely71 It wasn't filmed for THE ROSE. This scene was part of DIVINE MADNESS.

  • What an accolade to life. The lyrics say it all.

  • This is one of the most beautiful songs of all time. Thanks for posting.

  • Breathtakingly beautiful and heartfelt. Love Bette alot mo than the main character that is of course Jannis actually LOL.

  • I hear this song and even when I am at my most depressed, I am reminded that there will always be beauty in the world, I have but to look for it and I will find it, everytime.

  • Hit #1 AC, #3 pop in Billboard. Conway Twitty did a great version of it, too. God bless!

  • i hate to be a bitch but has anyone ever used any of the love metaphors

    especially drowning reeds????

but i still love the divine miss M who just gets better with age

  • Pretty much sums up Janis Joplin's lifestyle

  • R.I.P. Robert

  • Robert Enke

  • This is one of the few sad songs I avoid because it leaves me a snivelling mess. It's beautiful Bette.

  • @SavannahR8 You and me both. I'm man enough to admit it. Great song writing and the incredible talent and voice of Ms. M. Is there anything that this lady can't do? I doubt it. The best. Peace. : )

  • Une chanson que j'ai découverte il y a près de trente en allant voir le film et qui provoque la même émotion à chaque fois que je l'écoute...

  • The Rose...best Movie EVER

  • just beautiful

  • Remembering the time when we're in Portland, Oregon, this song soothed me whenever I felt tired. And now, too. thanks

  • Wow takes me back 30+ years with,me,my sister and my brother(rip)funny that it still sticks in my head after all this time---especially considering that I'm a complete metalhead.....

  • Does anyone know if this soundtrack is still available? Ive looked but cant seem to find it. I saw this movie in theatres when I was like 8 or 9 and I still remember it (because the music was awesome).

  • available on amazon

  • i would like to dedicate this song to someone very special u know who you are :)

  • Has it ever happen to you. To be in love with a song you have never heard of???????????/ This is the one for me. I knew Bette from some of her commedy acting. What a gifted talented artist. I hope she is the writer too. I will be a bit disappointed if she is not.

  • She's no mug on the big band stuff either. Try the boogie woogie bugle boy.

  • Wundervoll...

  • v nice

  • Exquisite!

  • I´ll always remember Bette from this movie. One of the movies I never forget.

  • Bette Midler has one of the most amazing voices ever. And this song is soo beautiful.

  • When she sings this song, its among the most beautiful things that exists...

  • this movie did make me cry but at the same time gave me strength. it describes me to the fullest and if i had a chance i would have it played at my funeral. i love it. so many nights have been lonely and the roads have been long just for me as well as others. Thank you Bette for the rose and the movie.

  • Bette is a great singer and actress. Amazing movie, it made me cry.

  • Tha family guy version i mean,

  • She was totally high but she still did a really good job. Talent such as that comes rarely in our life time.

  • She really did get robbed of the Oscar for "The Rose."

  • Respect to Mudhoney for covering this song. They put such a different edge to it!

  • This song is yet another re-affirmation of why the 70s were the best period for music. So many songs like this one over and over again. Corporations and giant record companies used to be good sometimes. This song is flawlessly, professionally executed with passion and substance. Take that, Mariah Carey.

  • Her voice is so beautiful, somehow she always brings a tear to my eye i love you bette!

  • Please help me find a link or something to get the movie The Rose, can't seem to find it anywhere Thanks

PS Bette if fantastic, love her rendition of Stay with me baby especially from the movie.

    Anyone?!

  • JANIS JOPLIN 4 EVER!!!!!!

  • written by Amanda McBroom performed by Bette Midler from the 1979 film "The Rose"

  • SHE DID JANIS GREAT

  • Bette has always denied that this was Janis's story, but I think the similarities are obvious!

  • I love this song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @nikitannenkov ...couldn't agree more everytime i hear it too am a wreck and me a grown man...lol

  • Bettes the best...

  • I sang this for my standard grade music exam in school *blushes*

  • Janis Joplin never sang this song.

  • You're correct...Janis never sang this song. She was dead long before the song was writtten.

  • my mom use to sing this to me when i cuden´t slep infact it is maikng me slepy now.

  • the song is about people who are afraid to fall in love, it was written for the movie by the same name, about Janis Joplin...it almost didnt make it in to the film, but Amanda McBroom the lady who wrote it, said Paul Rothchild and Bette Midler both liked it...so it got used for the film... Amanda said the words came to her when she was driving on the freeway and she rushed home to write them down after hearing that song about love being a razor...

  • is this from the movie?

  • I love this version, but has anyone heard Frankie Miller ( The Glasgow singer ) doing it ?
