10 best for me..............1) once upon a time in the west 2) the good the bad and the ugly 3) cool hand luke 4) resevoir dogs 5) bladerunner 6) no country for old men 7) the godfather 8) deliverance 9) the shining 10) one flew over the cuckoos nest. now thats a freakin list !!!! notable mentions......fargo, there will be blood, the big lebowski, and pat garret and billy the kid.
1. Casablanca, 2. Schindler's List, 3. 8 1/2, 4. The Godfather, 5. Sunset Boulevard, 6. Tokyo Story, 7. Vertigo, 8. La Dolce Vita, 9. Citizen Kane, 10. Gone with the Wind
However, my favorites are:
1. American Beauty, 2. La Dolce Vita, 3. It's a Wonderful Life, 4. A Streetcar Named Desire, 5. Pulp Fiction, 6. Casablanca, 7. Chinatown, 8. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, 9. Vertigo, 10. The Wizard of Oz (or maybe the Silence of the Lambs).
i think the AFI list is better.. he has a right to his opinion but the godfather has to be in any list when the title reads GREATEST MOVIES OF ALL TIME... hands down
1. Goodfellas 2. Crash 3. Gangs of New York 4. Pulp Fiction 5. Forrest Gump 6. The Godfather 7. Gladiator 8. The Usuals Suspects 9. Taxi Driver 10. Scarface See my video!
1. The Matrix. 2. Inglourious Basterds 3. American Beauty. 4.Back to the future 5.The Breakfast Club 6.Inception 7. Roots 8.Ferris Bueller's Day Off 9.Lord of the rings Trilogy 10.Knocked Up
@JasonsEvilMind 2001 is the greatest film ever made. No question for me.
My top 5 would all be Kubrick films, although I haven't seen ACO, so it wouldn't make my list.
I also think Alien should be on the list, because Alien is artistically deep as a movie, loaded with messages about birth and sex, and a fascist undertone. The alien is considered by the "powers that be" to be the superior race to humans, and the humans on the ship are expendable, the alien is all that matters.
1. Once Upon a Time in America 2. The Third Man 3. The Usual Suspects 4. Goodfellas 5. The Maltese Falcon 6. Dr. Strangelove 7. Raging Bull 8. Pulp Fiction 9. The Shawshank Redemption 10. A Clockwork Orange This list was pretty good. Blue Velvet is a good movie, but not Lynch at his best. Mulholland Dr., Wild at Heart and The Straight Story is much better.
This should be called Top 10 movies in the WESTERN WORLD (USA and part of Europe) may be.....anyway choosing top 10 movies is itself a very outrageous attempt i blv, its always going to be influenced by personal choice....
Not in order Stalker Last Life In The Universe In The Mood For Love And, Your Mother Too Dogtooth Into The Wild The Fall Lords Of Dogtown Barry Lyndon Mars Attack!

here is my top 10 movies 1) Scarface 2) The Godfather 3) The Good , The Bad and The Ugly 4) Psycho 5) Vertigo 6) Chinatown 7) Fight Club 8) The Maltese Falcon 9) The Treasure of the Sierra Madre 10) The Shawshank Redemption
man u r may be right but My top ten list 10. One Flew Over Cuckoo's Nest 9. Saving Private Ryan 8. Forrest Gump 7. Persuit of Happyness 6. Fight Club/The Curious Case of Benjamin Button 5. American Beauty 4. The Reader 3. Crash 2. The Hours 1. The Shawshank Redemption
no order Chinatown Dog Day Afternoon Taxi Driver Fargo Dr Strangelove 12 Angry Men The Godfather There Will Be Blood Midnight Cowboy Citizen Kane Raging Bull Wild Strawberries (Smultronstället) Bicycle Thieves (Ladri di biciclette)
Natural Born Killers Fight Club Aliens Memento Trainspotting Pulp Fiction The Matrix Blade Runner Seven The Usual Suspects just a quick draft of my top 10, not necessarily in that order & mainly of the last 2 decades
I believe 1. L.A Confidential 2. The Wrestler 3. Wall-e 4. Oldboy 5. Saving Private Ryan 6. When The Wind Blows 7. Akira 8. Notebook 9. Dog Day Afternoon 10. Taxi Driver Well maybe not in order.. but they were just some off the top of my head, move em all around, but theyre my top 10. IMO
you all do not understand where he is coming from with this list! he said in the beginning that films should overall entertain and make you think about lifes big questions. Thats what these movies did for him...but just because this is his top ten does not make it the worlds top ten forever! everyone list is different...some people thing Vertigo is the best, some The Godfather, and some think High School Musical. its all opinion based...mine btw is Fight Club, no movie can do for me what it can!
Several great movies here. Seventh seal, Vertigo, Clockwork orange, all favorites of mine. Seventh seal is from 1957 and Blue velvet is 1986 though ;)
Like the list mostly. Blue Velvet was just too disturbing to me at the time. I'll have to watch the Searchers! I agree we should bring our brain to the movies. Although, sometmes the sheer joy of getting wrapped up in a good story is enough for me. Here's a few faves off the top of my head not mentioned 1)Brazil 2) Buckaroo Banzai 3)Bride Of Frankenstein 4) Babbette's Feast 5)Princess Bride 6)Wings Of Desire 7)Sophie Scholl 8)Gentleman's Agreement 9)The Fisher King 10) Metropolis
godfather / clockworkorange / space odyssey / taxi driver / unce upon america / lost in africa / the elefhant men / the piano / the great ditador /modern times
I was about to comment about the fact that (USING HIS CRITERIA(THOUGHT PROVOKING ART)) Fight Club should be on that list. It is a great anti-system film, but I see a few people have already beaten me to it. Awesome!!
hahahaha wow man. u missed almost every great movie ever made. u are just another old timer and these movies are from your generation, so u cant look forward to more recent movies such as American Beauty, Fight Club, Forrest Gump, Apollo 13, some of the most influential movies of all time. especially American Beauty, talk about bringing up questions about the meaning of life.
He is entitled to his opinion. But this pretentious redneck needs to just shut the hell up. HIS list is better than AFI's because HE believes these movies carry more artistic weight or some B.S. Well I'll tell you. I am a HUGE movie snob. I agree with Vertigo, and I agree with the fact that Hitchcock is the greatest director of all time. But for the love of God!!! Blue freaking Velvet?!
Not the best movie ever, but it does deserve a top ten spot. my top ten 1.The Godfather 2.The Godfather Part II 3.Once Upon A Time In America 4.Apocalypse Now 5.Raging Bull 6.Citizen Kane 7.Blade Runner 8.Barry Lyndon 9.Taxi Driver 10.A Clockwork Orange
Good list for the most part. Vertigo, ACO, Blade Runner, Blue Velvet, The Third Man, & the Seventh Seal are all favorites of mine and like or love the rest of the films alot, except for the Searchers which is an overrated western. I have never been a huge John Wayne fan, but I love John Ford(perticularly Grapes Of Wrath). But this guy for got one thing. this is for the best american films, so seventh seal and a pure formality would not be allowed in the list.
WHY does everyone complain about old movies. Its not that big a deal. If its a good movie then it goes on the list. that simple. And besides its not like he wants you to agree with his opinion he just wants to share it.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
ooooooooooohhhhhhhhh fuuuckkkkkkkkkk!!!!! shut the fuckkk up who cares about your fucking list you asshole!!!!!!! any movies from 21st century????!!!!! Boring old fukccccccckkkkkk!!! wheres SCARFACE, GODFATHER, SUPERBAD, TERMINATOR, LEGIONNARE?? WHERES RAMBO, VAN DAMME, ARNOLD??? FUCK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!11111
Orson and Hitler? Lynch is influential? God how pointless and uninformed.
Outside of "Seventh Seal" and "Kane" your list is predicated on your assumption that you're a good deal more intelligent than reality belies. Your "reasons" are sophomoric.
"Vertigo" is the best movie ever made, eh?
Do yourself a favor and watch "The Wages of Fear". Twice.
This posting smacks of LA kulture.
Sorry to be negative, but your list and it's presenter are deplorable.
do u like violent films? I can name very many which are considered art. 1) saving private ryan, the lighting and effects are definitly considered art because they are so unique and fascinating. 2)titanic, there are no films that are comparable to the cinematography in this movie, also considered art. 3) godfather is one of my top movies and if you don't call that acting art, then i dont know what to call it. the excuisitness of marlon brando and his portayal of the godfather is pure art.
um you kinda forgot alot of great films such as , Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Monty pytons work saving private ryan and those films are definatley some of the betsof all time
A great list. As soon as you stated describing what films should be, i just thought of The Seventh Seal, i knew it had to be in your list. Some amazing films here, i would have encluded at least one Nouvelle Vague movie though, like 400 Blows or A Bout De Souffle.
Goodfellas, Wizard of Oz, Pulp Fiction, Superman 2, Pretty Woman, Carlito's Way, Scent of a Woman, What About Bob, My Fair Lady, Natural Born Killers, Braveheart, City Slickers, Coming To America, Psycho, Rainman, Star Wars - New Hope, Star Wars - Empire Strikes Back, Superman 1, Terminator 1, Shawshank Redemption, Falling Down, Scarface, The Sting, Vertigo, Lethal Weapon, Rainman, Romeo & Juliet, Back to the Future, Rocky, Scarface, An Officer and a Gentleman, Misery.
your top 10 list is the same as my bottom 10 list. Are you fricking kidding!!!!!!!!! one movie in the last 20 yrs???? and that was 14 yrs ago with some fat french guy in it!!! pal, you have no idea.
No 1 for me is 2001. As it addresses the question that transcends ALL political issues around the world, by asking 'are we alone'.
If the answer is no, and the evidence is found, as in the Arthur C Clarks short novel "The Sentinel" it'll change humanity and the way we see ourselves forever, especially if these beings by coming here and then moving on are technologically vastly more advanced then we are.
Uh....no. This doesn't work. The problem with this guy is that he is putting films that are "great but not THAT great" in his list. The Wild Bunch and Verigo would be in my Top 100 but not Top 10. Still at least he likes classic films and NOT enough people on Youtube like classic films. I'm 12 and I love 'em.
i agree with u about 100% on that. im 13 and all everyone likes on outube are like action comedy tuff, and u can find classic comedy and action tuff, u just have to look past the box office and before u were born
NOT IN ORDER>>>>>>JUST CORRECT deliverance apocalypse now one flew over the coocoo's nest the good the bad and the ugly cool hand luke goodfellas butch cassidy and the sundance kid fargo the big lebowski true romance scarface anyone kool like me will agree.... honorable mention.............blade runner
quentin's true romance was better than pulp fiction as per my list i suggest you view it more stars his first movie and better across the board.......id argue resevoir dogs gives pulp fiction a run for its money...pulp fiction is a commercialized film
im sorry but id have to disagree with you. Im a bit offended when u say WE watch movies for entertainment and not art. i think we watch movies for BOTH entertainment and art. I can name many enteraining movies that are art too, its jsut that people dont stop and think about the movie as much as they should. they just watch and go on to the next one. Altho his list is an okay one, there are many other better well known ones that u might enjoy
and this film you speak of is an example i saw it and it was worthy of passin time...with beer, wanna watch somethin watch scene 6 threw 11 on youtube of the thin red line yes its downloaded or should i say uploaded on youtube after you view it tell me of a better sequence of close quarter combat with grenades and guns ever in cinema
foreign films are great man. it just depends o the one u see. city of god, the most distubing and a rly great film. diving bell and the butterfly, a man trapped inside his own body after a storke leaves him paralyzed, its amazing
ok ok - heres the REAL LIST! 10. Pulp Fiction 9. Apocolypse Now 8. Annie Hall 7. The Godfather II 6. Casablanca 5. Lawrence Of Arabia 4. Rebecca 3. All About Eve 2. On The Waterfront 1. The Godfather ok ** that was the greatest films of all time list . fullstop
and that list is not my - omg my fucking fav moves EVER! list - its the list of the best movies ever - my personal fav list is different but you idiots below who put stuff like star wars?? are you stupid? star wars has so many flaws in script and direction its unbelievable!
Did he not have Breathless on the list? That IS the most influential film since "Kane"

Arnold is not a good actor.
Just his physic got him where he is.
The godfather should of been in the list.
Scarface was too much larger than life.
Rambo sucked.
Van Damme was one of the crappiest actors ever.
Terminator was not bad but still didn't deserve to be in this list.
Superbad???
Sucked ass only got one or two laughs out of me.

Vertigo is the best movie ever made, yes!!! Have you seen it?

Satyajit Ray...and he thinks he is a movie genius...pathetic

agreed...there cant be a top ten without something by satyajit ray
jovossuck123 3 years ago
there is no action films or comedys in this list. for me to like a film it has to be very vilent or very funny and have a good story.
Bistol13 3 years ago
do u like violent films? I can name very many which are considered art. 1) saving private ryan, the lighting and effects are definitly considered art because they are so unique and fascinating. 2)titanic, there are no films that are comparable to the cinematography in this movie, also considered art. 3) godfather is one of my top movies and if you don't call that acting art, then i dont know what to call it. the excuisitness of marlon brando and his portayal of the godfather is pure art.
gomotleycrue132 3 years ago
um doesn't he talk about "the wild bunch", "blade runner", "a clockwork orange" and there are more.

A great list. As soon as you stated describing what films should be, i just thought of The Seventh Seal, i knew it had to be in your list. Some amazing films here, i would have encluded at least one Nouvelle Vague movie though, like 400 Blows or A Bout De Souffle.

Does anyone like Saving Private Ryan?
fly712 3 years ago 2
not really
but everyone i know loves it
thesunofjuda 3 years ago 2
No 1 for me is 2001. As it addresses the question that transcends ALL political issues around the world, by asking 'are we alone'.
If the answer is no, and the evidence is found, as in the Arthur C Clarks short novel "The Sentinel" it'll change humanity and the way we see ourselves forever, especially if these beings by coming here and then moving on are technologically vastly more advanced then we are.
Puzzoozoo 3 years ago 3
Actually, 2001 is a movie mainly based on interpretation, there was never one true meaning to the film.
headonenv 3 years ago
Actually, 2001 and was based on an Arthur C. Clarke short story called 'The Sentinel'.

do you think that Clockwork Orange could make the top 100? Just wondering...
Uninvited642 3 years ago 2
it makes the top 20 stanley's best movie....along with full metal jacket of course
cholulasaucehot 3 years ago
titanic?
SavageKyle15 3 years ago
CinemaZebra 4 years ago
i agree with u about 100% on that. im 13 and all everyone likes on outube are like action comedy tuff, and u can find classic comedy and action tuff, u just have to look past the box office and before u were born
gomotleycrue132 3 years ago
Exactly. Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone on that.

pulp fiction????
zach336 3 years ago 3
quentin's true romance was better than pulp fiction as per my list i suggest you view it more stars his first movie and better across the board.......id argue resevoir dogs gives pulp fiction a run for its money...pulp fiction is a commercialized film
cholulasaucehot 3 years ago
true, but its just one of those movies..
he makes films that are just good and can make a conversation out of nothing and make it funny
zach336 3 years ago
He is talking about art in the movies and has no Fellini, Passolini or Truffaut movie in his list?
mednos 4 years ago
The reason we watch movies is for entertainment. We don't watch movies for art.
Bistol13 3 years ago
to some people art is entertaining, and the seventh seal is a very funny film aswell and being one of the best dramas of all time.
you cant generalize all peoples opinions on yours
jovossuck123 3 years ago 2
im sorry but id have to disagree with you. Im a bit offended when u say WE watch movies for entertainment and not art. i think we watch movies for BOTH entertainment and art. I can name many enteraining movies that are art too, its jsut that people dont stop and think about the movie as much as they should. they just watch and go on to the next one. Altho his list is an okay one, there are many other better well known ones that u might enjoy
gomotleycrue132 3 years ago 2
