I think so too- with the way they showed him remembering the flashback of him holding the first Olivia and crying in anger and sorrow- right before he told Livvie he couldn't bite her. For all his crimes, his love for her runs just as deep. He really does care; he's just desperate not to lose her, why he manipulates her thoughts sometimes...
so much of this - his actions, her feelings- puts me in mind of 2004 Phantom of the Opera movie. ;-) (eh, Motowncountry?) And Jack is like Raoul. lol
