  • No it's because this one is a NOTAR.

It uses exhaust gasses instead of a tail rotor. :)

  • it might be LRAD (long range acoustic device) based on an ultrasonic carrier which tends to amplify sound at the source. If you are travelling past Junction 20 of the M62 you can sometimes hear it - like a whooshing sound with audio behind it. The audio modulated is quiet but you can listen to it - like listening to a whisper in a crowded room. Also used by the armed forces to communicate with ground troops. It's louder where air is displcaced by moving parts such as wheels on a wagon/car,etc.

  • why the hell do police helicopters have that annoying sound?

  • I dunno they all do but its even louder when one is 50 ft above ur head hovering over you.

  • I deleted the nonsense comments where the idiots were trying to debate the callsign of the helo in the video. as thedoneranger summed it up, the MD Explorer is India 99/Police151. As an aside, GMP are selling it soon and we're getting a new one. Another council tax funded airforce :) (I'm not bitter).

  • Lets see how long this one is grounded for then. When's it coming?

  • dont be a tool

  • Lets sort this out. India 99 is the helicopter, GMP only has one of these. India 66 is the fixed wing aircraft, again inly one of these in GMP. Yes i'm a bobby and as part of my duties i speak with both on a regular basis.
