Well one of the draw backs of living in Los Angeles, 1. no radio station here would ever play any Opeth . Yes rock radio sucks here. 2 because of that , they will probably never play here because the only people who know of them are people who have played ' Saints Row' and some through word of mouth. Commercial radio blows major chunks, especially here in L.A.
One thing I would really like to ask Mike about is whether there is a running theme throughout the first few albums, because a theme emerges with the character of Melinda, with the male main character dying probably partway through either MAYH or possibly in the song "The Moor" or "Serenity Painted Death" on Still Life...any other thoughts?
@Luv4Maynard so far he hasn't confirmed that the albums share a character... maybe it's just the part of him on each song what makes you feel that they have a connection, i don't know.... still, he certainly did a concept album which is Still Life... and sometimes I feel the way you do...
@fnuggie true, but def some death metal elements in there for sure. coming from a non death metal fan perspective like I did Opeth definitely feels like entering the death metal world when i first heard it. but i hear ya, its not cannibal corpse
Opeth, to me, is an infallible band. They can make songs that are extremely dark and brutal and completely abandon traditional song formulas while at the same time they can make songs that are soft, organic, more traditionally structured, and immensely beautiful. In a century, I think Opeth's music will not only maintain it's relevance in the music industry, but it will continue to inspire the generations to come.
Every track of Opeth is like a short story in itself...A really good short story... Love it when the accentuation is dead on accurate and is at the place where its sposed to be at..
@05insomnium ive been to 4 Opeth gigs... the first was when they were still relatively unknown and they played at Canes Bar & Grill in PB in PB ... it was small and i was right next to the right speaker the whole time... it was LOUD... but then the other times i saw them at House of Blues which and the sound was PERFECT... the Prog Nation tour at Universal Studios tho, their set was a little quieter than DTs...
i want peter back in the band..saw them yesterday live in cologne and thought .. the spirit is gone away from this band..i still like their songs..but the new guitarist cannot replace peter..but still good music ! Windowpane ..
Neither can Axe ever replace Lopez but we gotta deal with it unfortunately. They are good replacements but I'm sure we all wish Peter and Lopez were back.
I know what your saying however I disagree. I've seen them live with Peter and then again with the new guy. The new guy is a brilliant guitarist. Lopez had a lot of feeling but technically I believe this guy is more of a metal-mechanical player and I swear his sticks should have caught fire during some points of the show. Both lineups are/were great but the point is I don't think anything is lost with the new lineup.
October or November sometime i think in europe. im not sure in toher places. check the Nuclear Blast website it might be on there, as it was in a nuclear blast magazine i saw the date.

I love how metalheads use "commercial" like it's not an opinion, but rather a fact. Such smart musicians, why can't the fans follow suit?

@05insomnium I went to the progressive nation tour, and their sound level was alright. Dream Theater's gig was louder.
