Hey....It's only fair that, if the content providers make money by using the internet backbone, then the backbone providers should also get their share. If you want them to continuously upgrade their networks, then they have to get something out of it.
I don't think you understand. You pay for an ISP not the internet. Corporations want to privatize the web by tiering user bandwidth. This means they would control what you view on the internet not by what you choose to view but by limiting your bandwidth to certain servers. Big companies want this to speed up their business operations because they are tired of paying premium prices for internet/server options. Good for business bad for you.

if you think the net should be "free", you don't understand what the net is and haven't read the bills going before congress. If google is unsatisfied with the way that their ISP is trafficing their content, they are FREE to find another carrier. All this "it's going to turn into a corporate pony show" drama is nonsense, based upon a notion that the telco's would rather monopolize you than make money.

Actually: in Germany you have to pay 5 Euro for every internet-able Hardware you own - mobiles, computer, computer at work, navisystem... the parlament seems to have done this in the last half year: and noone can do (or does?) something against it...
After privitasing education and leaving TV as source of information this is oe more terrible step towards...

I don't think you understand. You pay for an ISP not the internet. Corporations want to privatize the web by tiering user bandwidth. This means they would control what you view on the internet not by what you choose to view but by limiting your bandwidth to certain servers. Big companies want this to speed up their business operations because they are tired of paying premium prices for internet/server options. Good for business bad for you.

I've been on since 1995 and it has gone downhill since then... 95% of sites are now commercial... in '95 the reverse was true, but even back then there was a 'save the internet' campaign, the 'blue ribbon' free speech. It was like 'Chiba' city, stray off the beaten track and you ended up in some very 'seedy' places... it truly felt like 'cyberspace'... a 'brave new world'. The internet was a much 'beta' place...

I agree wholeheartedly with drumnude. Honestly, unless you went out into the forest, got some materials made a tool, made wire out of more materials you found, made some lenses and whatever the heck else is in a camera, developed a computer, made a usb port, found a way to connect to the internet, after writing software to run your computer and make a video, all the time feeding yourself off your own resources, then you can not say you "hate the corporations" as you do ^.^ My 2 cents.

Corporations built your computer, developed the software, made the net possible (infastructure), built your car, the goodies in your home, your dumbass iPod, music...just about everything.
