Just a note- this song started out in the form of "Christmas, Why Can't I Find You" (which we hear in the movie)- James Horner and Will Jennings as the writers. Mariah Carey added lyrics to make it a longer track- so while she did write additional lyrics to flesh it out, the gist of the track (hook of the song, melody) already existed. Faith does sing it in a Mariah style, though, for sure.
Mariah carey may not be able to sing as well as she use to. but if she really wanted to. i know she go back to writing songs like this and rest her voice...shes so much better then the "touch my body" music she puts out now. True like this never dies and she is capable of making it.
i wish Mariah would had recorded this for her second Christmas album, I wonder why she didn't. I love this song and you notice that Faith sorta sounds like if Mariah would sang it by the notes
@idesberz there's sort of is hope, though not really since her ex-husband legally owns this song ... Merry Christmas II You will be re-released this year 2012 as a deluxe edition. I pray and pray somehow this song makes it to that edition of the album. And you're right, the way Faith sung it is pretty much in the direction of Mariah's. Bloody shame we have yet to hear Mariah's spirit into this song. You can tell she was genuine about it, being Christmas loving and all.
When radio stations play continual Christmas music starting the day after Halloween, you realize how many crap holiday songs there are used as filler. Thankfully, great ones like this one, come around every once in a while!
I LOVE this song. I am like some of the others and listen to it whenever I get the chance. I can't wait for Christmas to come around every year and this song is one of the reasons why. If more people saw Christmas as a time for love and family instead of money and gifts the world would be a better place.
I love this song.^.^ This is one of my favorite Christmas songs ever! It has a nice warm touch but also it's kind of sad in a different way then most people would think.
Actually, Theodor Seuss Geisel (Dr. Seuss) was raised in the Lutheran faith and remained a member of the denomination his entire life. His parents were German immigrants who moved to Massachusetts. GREAT SONG, GREAT MOVIE AND GREAT BOOK.
I stand corrected. All these years I heard he was of the Jewish faith, thannks for entlightening us. Both movies were great and this is an excellent song with a lot of meaning behind it. Let's keep the true meaning of Christmas as love and generosity and not about how much we can spend and how much we get under the tree. You can keep Christmas without all the trappings. This song and movie says it all! :D
Did you know that Mariah Carey (my favorite singer) recorded this song and her husband owned the rights to it, but they divorced and he never released it and didn't let anyone hear it. So, to get around that, they had Faith Hill record it!

I like how they did the snow fake thing, reminded me of Horton Hears a Who. with the universes being in small places like a snowflake or a dust ball.

Dr. Seuss was Jewish but, would not deny his children Christmas. He said, "Christmas is non-denominational and should be enjoyed by everone."
