People need to stop arguing between science and religion. Religious fanatics ignore science even though there's obvious proof science can give us about things. In one breath, god freaks call science a fraud and then in the next, take advantage of it in their daily lives with medicine, technology and other things making their lives easier. Then, the science fanatics say there can be no god because there's science and there is no tangible proof of a god. Why can't they both be right?

I was really religious when I was young, than I started to learn as much as I can. And the more I learn the more I realise that there's so much I don't know. So I consider myself more a "science guy", cause there's one thing I learned for sure: only science have the modesty to admit that it might be wrong. Religions are so ignorant.

The Higgs is essentially the last missing piece of the standard model that already has great predictive power and internal consistency. It took a lot of smart, certain people to justify the expense. There are good predictions of the range of possible masses the Higgs should lie within which the LHC is designed to be able to produce. This experiment is far from "random". As far as experiments go this is one of the few you can safely hedge your bets on. Nobody is expecting not to find the Higgs.
