Perhaps all these people who support the Emperor Obama would like to be labled "enemy combatants" by Presidential decree themselves? No judge no jury just a "hellfire" missle dropped on their houses one day??
Lets take America back from these illegal war criminals!
al-Awlaki was accused of being a “terrorist” and therefore was not afforded “due process” of law. U.S. government recently declared that any verbalization demeaning the government was a “domestic terrorist.” Should we conclude that anyone who bad-mouths the government is now subject to dead by decree ?
I am satisfied the killing was both justified and legal.
"Under domestic law, U.S. targeted killings against 9/11-related entities is authorized by the Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Terrorists."
People are so blinded by their own notions of 'constitutionality' that they can't even give their government credit for protecting and saving their lives.
And yes, I am a progressive.
And yes, when you plan attacks against your own country, you forfeit your rights to citizenship and the privileges thereof.
Seriously, people are capable of such bullshit. He was an american citizen just because he was born here. He doesn't uphold the constitution, and he wasn't loyal to his country. As far as I'm concern, he's not more american citizen than Bin Laden. And just because you are a citizen, you don't have the privilege to continue plotting to kill your fellow countrymen.
America CAN do something with their vote, they can vote for the only candidate that has proven he is against these wars and for the constitution, Ron Paul 2012!
It's not a question of whether or not he deserved it! That's not an option. It's not right to murder anyone... ANYONE! With secrecy imminent, do you really think anyone should have the right to murder who they want without law? Without law is what this is. What is this? Martial law?
No matter how ugly the bastard was, he still deserved a trial for whatever and a chance to face his accusers! Because... why not? What have we got loose with a trial?
Are we suppose see Obama as a dude who's tough on terrorism? Is Obama killing to gain votes? If so, then who's the real terrorist here? The B.S. is so deep nowadays who can keep track?
No Obama is Idi Amin, Idi Amin was a brutal African dictator who murdered thousands of people. Obama is Idi Amin with a nuclear powered military at his disposal, an African dictator now controls the most powerful military on Earth, and he is using it like a toy!!! Since Obama killed this guy, he can now kill anyone he deems a threat, before this non US citizens were fair game but now Americans are not immune.
Considering the very redneck nature of many Americans, seeing brown people get hurt by US military might, Obama could be trying to court votes. Rick Perry just said he would invade Mexico, that is something many Americans just might support given the very strong anti immigrant sentiment that pervades America. To many Americans where Perry comes from the brown Mexicans are more of a threat than the Muslims. This mentality is what got America into Iraq.
You could be next simply because you disagree, or you blog, or you dare to be different and have a mind of your own, they can just preemptively strike you, rendition you without a court hearing? This is not America anymore. It is fascist Germany.
Anwar Awlaki does not represent (orthodox Islam). He is a misguided ignoramus who calls to the ways of the Khawaarij. You can find out more about this Awlaki here:
Can you imagine if Iraq sent a Special Forces unit over here to asassinate one of their citizens on US Soil? This is wrong on so many levels. Our Federal Government is out of control
If there really was overwhelming evidence against this guy (enough to supposedly justify his murder), then All the more reason to try him in a Court of LAW.
Otherwise, which Americans will be assassinated next?
Anti-War Peace activists?
Nuns, Preachers?
Anyone who promotes Jesus as a Peace-Maker rather than War-Hawk??
@Gruesome the Term Magna Carta (1215) and Habeas Corpus (1679) which made the world transition from dark ages law into modern law has been suspended via or new Nazi Regime!
Did this man recieve an open hearing or Trial with or without him?
To drop a bomb via drone in Yemen without a declaration of war is a an act of terrorism ... Obama has shit on the Constitution and international law just as Bush did.
@rachelgolem Oh, I thought we had the right to due process of law, if we were accused of plotting attacks against other Americans. Keep in mind, like Greenwald said, these were alleged - if we don't have the right to legal defense, what is next?
It was an execution because he ordered it, over a year ago, to have him killed. Yes this guy was dangerous, but still it sets up a precedent where the President can kill anyone he thinks is a terrorist. You really consider a Obama a friend to Israel?? You must be out of your fucking mind. Israel just lost Egypt which was a major source of stability up until Mubarak got kicked out.
@rachelgolem OK, your right, it was not an execution ... It was MURDER! The plotting of attacks have been found as a matter of fact in what court? Hearing? or though a special grand jury?
The cowards who fly the drones think they are playing a game just as the president in the making of his decision ... this was a man who had the right of free speech and was not in a nation our country was at war with. Collectively many laws have been broken ... The CIA and president should be on trial !
For all our modern technology--we have descended~devolved in many ways headlong back into the dark ages. And the Middle Class, rather than acting as a buffer, seems mostly indifferent even as they are being shoved back into peon-level, lower-class status.
@GruesomeTruth Freedom of speech and beliefs gave this man the death sentence without trial ... Yes words only targeted this man for murder!
Has our nation forgotten the rule of maw they always spew on us in civil and criminal courts inside the States, but when our federal govt decides to go for the death penalty without a hearing or trial ... this is murder ... yes Obama are a murderer in my opinion same as bush was ... I am against war ... does make me deserve death as well?

@soccerdude601 Drones have decimated AQ's top hierarchy. Drones limit AQ's commanders' ability to communicate w/each other. Drones have shut down AQ's training camps, that once operated wide open w/impunity. All because of DEATH FROM ABOVE, so yes, at this stage of the game drones make us safer. BTW, the jihadist cockroaches were left alone and then the first WTC bombing happened in '93, Khobar in '96, Kenya & Tanzania in '98, Cole bombing in 2000, 911, etc,
@soccerdude601 BTW, what would really make us safer is ethnic profiling on flights to and from the U.S., strong border security, and severe restriction on muslim immigration to the U.S.
@BjornTuroc you mean to tell me the US NEVER caused this? you can't hit and not expect me to retaliate. that's insane. you obviously don't know any muslims because if you did, you wouldn't speak the way you do. i have many friends that are muslims and don't show any form of doing these forms you see on the main stream media. open your eyes and look at the broader picture. if you just so happen to be considered a terrorist, you can be killed with no due process.
@soccerdude601 lol...this is going to be fun. By using the word "hit" I assume ur referring to some type of U.S. military operations that were killing muslims in the Middle East. So, tell me what U.S. muslim-killing military operations were going on in the Middle East that caused the jihadist cockroaches to retaliate and murder 3000 American CIVILIANS on Sept 11, 2001?
Respond to this video... BTW I'm of Maronite heritage (google it..I'm sure u have no idea what that is). I still have family in Lebanon. Because of my job I travel extensively in the Middle East. I've forgotten more about islam that you'll ever know and I'm friends with more muslims than you'll ever meet.

Whoever pulls the trigger is responsible; we can't blame another because he tries to hide behind someone else. At the very least, take responsibility for aiming & pulling the trigger.
Besides, We are over There--in their region.
And before you say, '9/11' -remember history; we've been over there mucking them for Many decades. One of the earliest of the modern era was in the 50's when our CIA orchestrated an Iranian coup--to re-install our puppet, The Shah. Similar with Saddam-Iraq.
@GruesomeTruth Let me see if I got this right. In your wacky world it's okay for jihadist cockroaches to use innocent women and children as human shields but it's not okay to take out a traitorous enemy combatant on the lam linked to several plots to murder innocent American women and children. Also your point on the 1953 Iran coup fails as completely irrelevant; The U.S. operations in Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen & Pakistan are a direct result of the jihadi attack against the U.S. on 911.
If you prefer lynching (no court, no evidence, no jury) to the U.S. Constitution & Rule of Law, then ok.
Imagine China, for many decades, had been mucking U.S. in our backyard--incl orchestrating coups, and heavily supporting brutal dictators here in the U.S. No doubt you'd be cool with that and not attempt to strike back by any means.
btw "A 2009 Brookings Institution report estimated that U.S. drone attacks in Pakistan had killed 10 civilians on average for every militant."
@GruesomeTruth You've "droned" on ad nauseum about violating due process, the Constitution, etc, as if you're making some profound discussion-ending argument. Your rhetoric might work in a college class full of stoned and impressionable rich kids with Che Guevarra T-shirts, but it comes off as trite to someone a little more knowledgeable. Do you even know what due process is? If so, exactly what process was due al-awlaki in this circumstance and what's the legal authority for your argument?
Intelligent, well-read, and wise as you are, surely you have something more productive to be doing.than typing in arguments here vaguely supporting the assassination of American citizens.
@GruesomeTruth Weak. You failed the 3 rules of debate: 1. Don't be arrogant because when a strong retort comes you lose all credibility. Credibility, like life, is hard to recover once lost. 2. Qualify your statements. Ex. If you said, "I believe al-awlaki is entitled to due process..." you'd be in the clear b/c you didn't state it as fact. 3. Know your facts before opening your mouth. If you open your mouth and state falsehoods as facts, your stock will plummet.
@GruesomeTruth After u rambled on about due process, you'll recall i asked u what process was due al-awlaki and what's the legal authority. Instead of answering the question, you've accused me twice now of wasting my time, as if I need time management advice from you. This means that u either have no answer or u don't want a reasoned debate (probably b/c u have no answer). Instead, like other Leftists, you'd rather be encouraged, validated and complemented by those who think like you.
It is just a game by the Yemeni government to stay in power. they want to convince the Americans that the collapse of government meaning Al-Qaeda taking over the country. Anwar got killed right after Saleh's return to the country from Saudi Arabia. the Yemenis had Anwar on their sight from the beginning but have been playing with Al-Qaeda card for too long now to suck the American treasury dry!
In what fantasy world would the World's most notorious terrorist organization give OPERATIONAL LEADERSHIP to a natural born American Citizen, in a country with over 20 million Muslim people? Are American's really buying this story line, that al-Awlaki, was a top al-Qaida leader?
Awlaki was an American citizen. Killing him was a violation of the Constitution. BinLaden was killed by an act of congress that said get/kill those responsible for 9/11. Awlaki was not connected to 9/11, and was an American citizen! If the US can kill him, they can kill you! One of the few to speak out against this is Ron Paul. He gets my vote for President 2012!
Glenn's work in preserving our liberty is matchless. The Obama admin is a determind foe of the American constitution. The sooner we boot this war-loving fraud the better for the republic.
So this must be an important issue for all US voters to consider in the upcoming elections - on which of these candidates would I like to confer the arbitrary power of ordering my assassination, & who is the least likely to order it?
Still, I guess it's all part of keeping us all safe.

Oh, that's right--you believe in 'shoot first, so can't ask questions later (of the dead)'.
You got the lynching you crave, so why bother wasting your precious time here?
Guilty conscience you're needing to work out?

Great video. Greenwald is superb--introducing some much-needed intelligence + sanity to the conversation.
What makes Other countries/dictators 'bad' or 'evil' ? -often, it's because They Assassinate their own (or other) citizens.

@saintile Apparently America wasn't kept safe for this particular American.
