And, the standing core of a "warrior class" has been part and parcel with human culture since long before any so-called "civilization" waged the first "war of imperialism." It's easy to talk about a country having a low percentage of people with a decent education and using that as an excuse for violent tendencies... But honestly some of the smartest people I know are in the military. It's easy to see too. The people out of college with an extensive vocabulary and high GT score who like to throw it in people's faces usually lack any form of common sense. Reading a book in school and condemning those who work, fight, and die... Having no experience in such matters

A standing military is a VERY important part of having a country where you can openly criticize those who fight and die for it.
