Wow the ignorance! @ 1:48 chambliss' homer was in 1976.
BTW FenianandLimey I love the old YS but to say there was no reason to build a new one is short sighted. Do you relize that the old building was sitting on a 85 year old foundation. . When that beam fell threw the upperdeck about 10 yrs ago it would have killed someone during a game. BTW leaving the old park after a walk off homer wasCRAZY! about 40 minutes to leave the stadium just to get outside. new park about 5 minutes if that.
Saw the yanks take on the white sox with my dad and grandparents back in september 2008. Abreu hit a couple HR's that night, it was awesome. It was also the 1st time my grandpa had been to yankee stadium in 45 years. He knew how much it changed from watching the games on tv, but when he stepped in the stadium he was truly amazed how much it had changed since his last time there. There was a few times where it looked like he had tears of joy in his eyes. It was one of the best nights of my life.
I could have accepted a new stadium if was built around the original field. After all,it's the playing field where all the baseball history was made. But the Yankee management wouldn't even consider playing one season at the brand new CitiField to save the field at Yankee Stadium. So for me Yankee Stadium is gone. There is no Yankee Stadium.
all the yankees car about is money . they dont give a shit about that great stadium. i saw a world series game there an i loved the stadium. it is probably my favorite ball park i have ever been too. they never should have built that new one
I wish that I got to see a game at the old Yankee Stadium (and I live in Los Angeles). It really sucks it was demolished. I don't think the team needed a new stadium. Like Wrigley Field and Fenway Park, Yankee Stadium is sacred ground.
Dammit, one of my sports dreams was to always go to Yankee Stadium. I didn't get to last time I was in NY. I live in CA. I'll go to NY again soon and I'll go to a Yankee game but it just wont have the same effect on me as if I had gone to the ACTUAL "house that Ruth built".
Ive never been a big Yankee fan (White Sox fan), but this is sad, its as bad when we moved out of Old Comiskey.
The worst part is 3 good parks got the wrecking ball this past year (Tiger Stadium, Shea, now Yankee Stadium), its too bad that these baseball cathedrals go down.
I remeber going to Yankee Stadium in 1972, 1979 and 1980.What a waste they should save it.They wasted their money on building a new Yankee Stadium, they took the heart out of the Yankee fans. This new stadium I have bad feeling.
I grew up a fan. My earliest memories of the stadium were with my Grandpa. He past away in 2004 and now another part of my childhood was taken away. I miss the old place. The new one will never compare.
I totally agree!I say thet they make the Old Yankee Stadium into a museum-the way it looked before the renovation in 1973. That will not happen unfortunatly.

BULLSHIT. The original Yankee Stadium was demolished after the 1973 season. That fraud stadium that was called "Yankee Stadium" from 1976 through 2008 was a phony replica. The real stadium was 1923 through 1973. The new stadium is really Yankee Stadium III.
who cares, YANKEE FANS MUST REMEMBER THE BILL MAZOROUROSKI HOME-RUN IN PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA. RETURN TO FORBES FIELD FOR THAT YANKEE DEVASTATING LOSS. YOU LOST YOU "YANKEE FAN". THE 1960 WORLD SERIES.
hey mick! you are misinformed. That is sacred ground. That is where Ruth, Gehrig and Dimaggio once stood. While alot was changed in its renovation take a look at the outer shell. It still contained the original steel and beams. How about that concrete spiral walk up to the upper levels?Wanna know why it had such an old vintage look?-because other than fresh paint it remained the same!Thats why that stadium should remain until there is no more "YANKEES"! It was never demolished-it was renovated!
Yeah it's sacred ground. To bad Yankee upper management and the owners couldn't get their greedy heads out of their asses and realized it before they screwed up. Oh, I'm a Yankee fan still just hate the owners
this is great demolish yankee stadium the old one was destoyed by renovations in the 1970s i like the pre renovated yankee stadium that park had history and more quirks.

While it's sad that the old stadium is being torn down (I myself had liked prior suggestions to convert it into a soccer stadium for what is now the New York Red Bulls of MLS), the new stadium looks much like the original version of the old one.
What was talked about was the OLD Yankee Stadium, which in its original configuration also hosted football and soccer in addition to baseball. The now-being-torn-down stadium, downsized in seating to around 35,000 or so, would probably have worked as a soccer stadium that would have kept it alive while the Yankees are playing across the street in the new stadium.
Babe Ruth's ghost is going to be pissed. You know ghosts can't just travel to other venues. They stick with their one territory and they stay there! Think of any horror film about a house built on an indian burial ground.
chambliss was 76 not 78.

The new place has no heart, no soul. Plus it looks like every other new park on the inside.

R.I.P. Yankee Stadium. Also Shea, Ebbots Filed, and all the other legendary ball parks.

At least preserve a portion of the stadium, like Gate 2, to be part of the new park. That would be a great entranceway.
