The whole premise of the play doesn't require longer or heavier life experience wouldn't matter - they were young characters - young. Youth movement . Covered the issues of youth at the time- street youth.
I saw the original on off- Broadway. It was written authentically with great score to boot. Theatre people want the good voices to sing the great music. Those who chose to be in this were also regular, hip people too who happened to be artists committed enough to do it well. Well?! It was a sold out phenom!!
@JadelovsJB but is hair really supposed to be "soulful" and pretty? Personal i think it is supposed to be normal people with average voices sing from the heart. Just my opinion. to tell my "story" my first version of hair was the revival that is now nd i loved it, then my theatre teacher gave me a copy of the original and i fell in love..

Lighter voice? That doesnt mean better. Plus I'm SURE this woman is older than your friend with more life experience to back this part up. Lame.
