So Goten actually started the rule breaking? He turned SS first while Trunks was following all the rules? Trunks got even when he shot Goten with a blast. Goten went up and came back down where he used a blast (thought it was just to rebound himself off the floor), at which point Trunks decided enough cheating, went SS, shot a blast with his left hand and ended the match.

So essentially Goten started cheating, but Trunks cheated a bit more. Though Goten cheated at a crucial point.

Trunks deserved to win. He was going to early on in the air struggle until Goten cheated first by turning super saiyan. The rules basically went out the window after that.

I've had a theory, maybe Goten and Trunks could transform so naturally because of how powerful their fathers were. the reason Goku and Vegeta had to work so hard to transform is because of their fathers' lower power levels, so somehow that power is passed along to the next generation. Again, this is just a theory, and a rocky one in Trunks' case.
