on my brand new bike (honda so it's red) the first thing i decided to go aftermarket with are the grips. so the ones on it now are brand new and stock. the last guy i saw doing this just cut his off with a knife and i really didn't wanna ruin my new grips so i'm glad i saw your video!
@rcfreak2493 I've never tried epoxy so I'm really not sure. I have used carb cleaner in the past that worked well on some brands of grips. I have also used spray paint (clear works best because if a little runs out on the grip you don't see it) which worked. Some folks use gas.
@chairrretr all you do is put them over the grips, there is no tricks just maybe pull them open a little bit and slide them on. They should be a little snug. But there are not tricks just slide them on over the grip.
I always use grip glue since it's very important that the grip stays attached. In a bind you can use spray paint (spray it inside the grip only) and then safety wire them but I do prefer grip glue.
do you have to use safety wire if you use the glue? On all of my smaller bikes I have always used just glue. I just now got a 250f, I dont know if that would make any difference at all.
hi i recently bought the same grips for my it250 yamaha 1981 idk if your familure with this bike but on its throttle controll it uses a gear system and ive managed only to find one throttle tube for it for 63.99 thats obviously too much cash for a piece of plastic so my question & delema is i bought a motion pro throttle tube the problem is its longer then the grip so could i cut it shorter to fit also this tube requires a moddern throttle system which ive looked into purchasing
You can shorten the new throttle tube if needed. Make sure you smooth the sharp edges after you cut it. If you want to keep the bike all original the factory tube is expensive but would be your best option. Otherwise you can buy a complete aftermarket throttle assembly to put on it.
thank you for responding this is the throttle system i'm thinking of buying this seems like a very simple and universal throttle kit do you think it would work on my bike
A compressor definitely works best. I have also used a small screwdriver to carefully peel the grip off. It takes some time but if you're patient it should come off. Sometimes the stock grips can only be removed by cutting them off. Some of the factory's use really strong glue. Hope this helps.

You're right. I've run into a few grips before that pretty much had to be cut and scraped off. If the air works it's by far the easiest way but sometimes it takes a lot more work.
I like safety wire but i hate it on grips because it dosn't do anything plus you can rip your gloves which sucks but that dosn't happen alot also you make some awesome vids also when are you gonna do a vid on a top end rebuild on four stroke? and could you preferably do it on a crf150r thanks heaps.
when i bought my bike it doesnt come with safety wire on neither do any of the other bike whats the point of putting them on the glue will hold the grip wont it?

i was wondering, for anyone who can answer... do you always need safety wire?
worldofwilfred 9 months ago
@worldofwilfred
No, safety wire is not necessary but I prefer to use it to make extra sure the grips don't come off.

@ForsheeMS Ok.... thanks for the info

do you need to use grip glue, or will it hold fine with just the safety wire?

is there any other way of removing them without the use of a compressor, and obviously without damaging them?

whats the purpose of the grip doughnuts ? pls respond
pooptypoopty 1 year ago
@pooptypoopty
The grip doughnuts can help keep you from getting blisters on you thumb from rubbing the flange of the grip.

@ForsheeMS if air doesn't work for removing you can just make a slit in the grip from end to end then peel it off

Best adjustable levers I have ever tried ;)
