  • I like Tommy's version but check out Muriel Anderson's version. She includes a bass line

that Tommy left out and includes the solo. She also leaves out much of the "piano" of Tommy's version. To my ear Muriel's version incorporates the best of Tommy's version but is

    much closer to the original.

  • это лучший гитарист, которого слышал))) sorry. my english is bad))

  • he reminds me too much of lieutenant dan from forrest gump.

  • Tommy, thanks for this guitar lesson! I play guitar since 40 years, but always the wrong stuff I think, now I´m to old to learn your style or the style of Chet perfect. My fingers don´t want that :-)

I hope I´ll see you in January in Paderborn Germany live in concert!

  • 18 people can't play the guitar!!!!

  • @MrPatrik17797 I'm sure more than 18 people in the world can't play guitar.

  • Tommi, спасибо за передачу своего накопленного багажа. Досталось это тебе в кропотливом труде, а перенять всегда легко, но необходимая человеческая черта.

  • "we have the piano, and now the guitar" omg this is so hard ...

  • Yeah, sure Tommy, I'll just practice that until like...the day I die (if I live to 150) and maybe, just maybe I'll get close to being able to sound like a hack. That is if everyone will just leave me alone to practice.

  • Youtubers: ‎"Hey Tommy why can't I play like you?"

TOMMY: "Because You're just HUMAN, son...."

  • now the first part is relatively easy, but I am having a great difficulty playing with my thumb over the second fret and moving my fingers that far from it !

  • li mortacci sua!

  • great shit right here, if you want these tabs check out tabpigs.org

  • whats the first song he plays at the very begining

  • @JLGF95 "Old Fashioned Love Song"

  • An absolute genius. <3

  • Tommy, no matter how slow you play it, it's still impossible for me XD

  • Standard tuning?

  • Is this standard tuning?

  • yes

  • @snakeheartbr

    A: YES

  • @snakeheartbr yes

  • A Paul Williams tune by Tommy Emmanuel Day Tripper/ Lady Madonna. irra

  • Great Guitar player. irra

  • thanks a lot tommy!!

  • This guy can play, he is almost as good as Chet Atkins was.

  • Man that helped me so much!

He is the greatest guitarist eva!!

If u havent heard his electric guitar type in the journey!!!

    Cool Vid! :)

  • nothing about his playing but he looks like a fish :-D

  • when he play it it looks so easy...

    but...

  • AHahahahhaha!

  • best acoustic guitarist in the world, anyone?

  • no question :P

  • I'm going to see him in May! Definitely the best.

  • One of the best if not the best at HIS style. Finger picking. There is no such thing as a BEST guitarist in the world and Tommy would tell you that himself. That said, I love the man he is greaaatttt!!!!

  • @Creamyguitar1956 then why is there 14 checks on my other comment? haha

  • Because Tommy has a HUGE fan base. I have heard people say Eric Clapton or Steve Vai is the Best or Slash or Paco DeLucia or Segovia or whoever. Doesn't matter. Ask REAL musicians and they will agree. There is no such thing as a BEST guitarist in the world. Unless you are reeeaaaly young and then you think that way.

  • @Creamyguitar1956 oh yes, i'm 5.

  • @Creamyguitar1956 I agree wholeheartedly. They're all different styles. I don't think Slash could play that first song without a lot of practice, but I don't think Tommy could compose solos as captivating as Slash's without many tries.

  • @kinggilly23 No argument here!!!

  • @kinggilly23 Kotaro Oshio is also good, but I hear this Tommy Emmanuel guy is one of his inspirations. XD

  • @kinggilly23 +1(00,000,000,000...)

  • Well I dont know about you, but when someone challenges me and says something about me that isnt true, I tend to give a little fight back. You really expect me to believe you're actually sitting there laughing hysterically like that? It's so fake and sad. So yeah, I was hoping to teach you a lesson. But I guess kids will just be kids...

  • what's the melody for the first 40 seconds? sounds abit like 'when I'm sixty four' by the beatles.

  • Try listening again. He tells you what it is.

  • yes now i know, thanks. initially thought it's literally an old fashioned love song, didnt know it was a name of a song. anyone know the tabs to that?

  • man, he's playing that stuff so cristyl clear ! no noise, scratch or snareing anywhere! ... must be a great guitar, in the hands of an even greater guitarist !

  • I hear ya! Flawless!! Tommy is top shelf for sure!!

  • me apaixonei xD

  • yea and i train 25 hours a day...

    be realistic.

Sure he has to train alot but surely not 16 hours.. no time for sex , to eat or spend time whit his family ( and he has one )

  • no seriously he really does or did play around 14-16 hours a day

  • well shit he better be that good then

  • I have seen tommy live and ive met a friend of his, His friend told me that Tommy practice atleast 12 hours a day. But he often practice like 16 hours a day

  • This guy must sleep with his guitar to be so good

  • Belive me! I tried it... Didnt work so good...

  • YOU HAVE SEX WITH YOUR GUITAR?

  • Nooooooo... Just slept with it :D... Or---

  • hey...what are you tryin to say?!?!?!...jk...

  • Anyone know what brand of thumbpicks he uses?

  • just dunlop

  • maton guitar

  • This guy is a Great musician

  • magic!

  • The trick is, dont think of it as more than one melody. Play it as one melody

  • good point,i wish someone had told me that a few months ago.i learned it the hard way

  • Could anyone inform we where you got these vids?

I'd like to buy the DVD/VHS etc, but I don't know what I'm looking for.

  • Tommy Emmanuel - Up Close

  • Ah! Thanks a million.

  • this man is a genius!!!

  • Yeah baby i can play this :D

  • Fark!

  • Does anyone know the song he plays first? :-)

  • Just an Old-Fashioned Long Song by Paul Williams

  • who cares it was awesome. lol

  • Does anyone else think think Day Tripper Emmanuel style is a bitch to play? It's alot harder than it looks.

  • I agree completley. I can't even do the begginning of day tripper with the melody and steady plucking at 1:45 neverming 2 more complicated melodies

  • whoa! it sounds like ders 2 guys playn! He's great!

  • That's a nice sounding guitar. What make is it?

  • it's an austrailian company called Haworth Guitars

  • sorry i meant maton, my bad

  • Unbelievable.

  • ty dude:)

  • mamma mia che tazza di chitarrista

  • LOL I did not think he sounded so "whiney" Ya mean" "Jeese he is so talented I will make sure it won't last long, LOL WHINEY Chill bill. "I'm now going too " DAY TRIPPER""

  • He makes it look so easy, i've been learning this song for over a week now. Lady Madonna seems a little more difficult than Day Tripper.

  • does anyone have the tab for his versions of these great songs?

  • i'm just wondering if he used standard tuning on Day tripper and Madonna.I'm just guessing if his D string was turned to E,just a guess. What a great talent.

  • Yeah its standard tuning.

  • where can i get his dvd or anything?!!?!?!?!

  • domenb,

Go to Tommy's site (tommyemmanuel com). There's a book by Peter Pik that has tab, transcription, commentary, hints, etc. It's very detailed. It comes with and audio CD version of the same tunes on this DVD. Of course, having the DVD helps. If you need more help learning the stuff, go to the forum on his site and ask. There are lots of people that will happily assist. Good luck!

  • I guess Tommy Emmanuel is a kind of genius.

  • HELL YEAH

  • ahhh! whats the name of the style hes talking about? it was cut of from the start

  • Moving baselines. He says it at the end.

  • tommy emmanuel is the man. his compositional skills match his playing ability...definitely one of the best in the world

  • Ohh Big deal i cant spell, But at least i have respect for others and also some skill in life. Can you say the same? I think not! Until you learn not to be a-holes i suggest you stfu.

  • wat is the guitar

  • maton EBG808

  • OMG seriously this guy is SOoooo.... Goood! The soul is a large place in most but this guy has a galaxy as a soul! lol This realy is special! :)

  • no sthit lol :D

  • Please anyone who has any tips for the guitar let me know. i wanna be this good! XD

  • I've got a tip, it's called: practice

  • hes such a nice bloke...

    very good on guitar

i learnt to play like that from this vid actually

  • Tommy Emmanuel inspired me to take guitar! He's amazing!!!

  • Absolutely amazing. No gimmicks, just pure class and talent. You can't buy that.

  • thanks ....

  • Holy cow!!! At 5:23 he almost, kinda' screwed up a note! Unbelievable! He's almost kinda human. I probably wouldn't even have noticed it if he didn't laugh and say 'not like that'! What an unbelievable player.

  • hehe, yeah, lol xD

  • its easy to screw up while u have to explain what u do. I dont see that as a screw up!

  • I didn't say, he did! I"d consider that a take.

  • but in relation to this, ive seen him screw up notes or rythms often... not that it mattes much in Tommy's case since he is so good at impro.

  • Joe Pass once said, if you don't screw up now and then, you're not trying hard enough. That said, I'm always amazed by players like Tommy, Lenny Breau, Chet, Joe Pass, who seem to be able to consistently nail takes. For the amount of stuff of heard from these guys (much of it live, impromptu takes), I'm in awe of their consistency. (Although once I saw JP forget what song he was playing in the middle of a solo! It was great, he stopped and said 'all these standards have the same chords!)

  • hehe.. cool!

  • i watched that part on replay like 20 times to believe it

  • Priceless

  • wait i didn't know he wrote those. ha

  • I keep coming back.. I can't get my thumb and ring finger on the right hand doing different things like he can. I'm ashamed to tell how many years I've been playing.

Tommy if you read this.. I just want to say.. Wow! I'm a bass player at heart and I'd love to be in a band with you playing guitar. It's good stuff.. I'm glad you like the Beatles...

  • he beats every1... stop it at 42 seconds wen he scratches his nose.

  • Tommy Emmanuel is one of the most talented guitarists that I have ever seen. Playing fancy riffs is cool and all but the most difficult style of guitar playing is when you play ever part at the same time like Tommy Emmanuel does. If would take decades for me to equal him in talent. He is truly a gifted guitarist

  • hes loving it!!

  • I've been playing guitar for 30 plus years now, and I've decided that the best way to play like this is to grow another brain, another 2 pairs of arms and still practice 24 / 7!!! How the hell does he do it???!!! I've seen Clapton, Knopfler, Chet Atkins and many other technical "top" guitarists, but Tommy leaves them all in his wake! Amazing gift,... Amazing!

  • ABSOLUTELY TRUE..

  • i agree!!!! i would die happy if i played like this. its time to learn buddy!!!!

  • hmmm..i noticed that this vieo was added on my birthday..what a wonderful gift

  • bloody best guitarist EVER!!

  • damn ...i thought i could play?!

  • if i could play that like he does right now and die, id be a happy man

  • Holy shit. Better than I will ever hope to be.

  • I'm throwing everyone of my guitars away.. Whew that's good... I got 19 guitars...

  • do you got guitar boggie to?

  • cool

  • where did you get this video?

  • thank you for doing this- much appreciated!

  • u play so cool

  • the start of day tripper isnt too bad, the next bit is a pain in the arse to learn.

  • i found the opposite. took me ages to learn the first bit with the DE on the beat all the time. and once i got good at that the second bit was just learning which notes to play together. its half having good time, half studying the song. for instance. you play the consecutive open B's on the 2nd string B and the 3rd string D.

  • yeah i have them both now

  • it would be interesting to hear the opinion of some professional musician about this guy

  • This guy IS a professional musician, and if you mean a "famous" musician, there are not many who can compete with Tommy.

  • this guy rocks!!!!!!i got his cd

  • his style is amazing, if you play guitar you should know that its so hard to start playing in his style....amazing

  • actually, ALL guitarists should START playing this style, because when you start somewhere else and try to learn this later in life, you will have a really hard time!
