I just had the same thing on my toe nail. I tried the hot safety pin but couldn't get through the nail. So I switched to the drill, and voila. It's really scary and painful when you poke through and feel the hot bit in your toe, but that went away after a minute or two, and I was left with relief.

Kritterkraut.. you do realize you could have used a paper clip to do that, right? Heat the end of the paper clip with a lighter, get it white hot, and press it into the nail. It will melt through the nail, painlessly, and relive the pressure immediately. Plus, there is no danger of drilling through your finger.

That's not how you are suppose to do that!!! You use a straightened paper clip and heat up the end. Then you hold it against the nail to melt a hole. It takes a lot less time than it took you, plus it's alot safer. And to drain the blood you press on the nail, not rub your thumb like you did. The way you did it was not very bright, you could have done alot of damage to the nail bed!

@nlmetal The reason you do it with a paperclip is because its safer. Yes, it hurts more but when you heat the paperclip, it kills all of the bacteria so you don't get an infection. The safest thing to do is just to have a doctor do it but its easiest and CHEAPEST to just do it your self.
