@9CristianX If I'm using Kino, I usually edit it in Ardour, Cinelerra or Audacity then just use the pre-edited clip in Kino. Kino is fairly limited in capability and I don't even know if you can do more than overlay like I did in this video.
@PamelaCaremlaThomas you can get the source and packages from kinodv(dot)org. If you have Ubuntu, just use Synaptec or go to a console window and type "sudo apt-get install kino" and you're done! :-)
this was a good tutorial. thanx. by he way...your little guy is so kino cute! the most i have ever coaxed a kid to take is raw onion and i found kids between 2 to 4 really like raw onion, kids older then 4 hate it. but ceffee wow thats a new one
@nannynicky4life Thanks! He's cute and he (unfortunately) knows it! He also LOVES onions but only if they are grilled, smoked and caramelized... So I don't know if that counts. He was on a coffee trip... would not stop talking about it and begging for it, so I decided I'd show him and let him try it. Not only did he like it but he STILL wants a taste when we have some.
Nah... focus was good, but the encoding of the upload was seriously lacking! I've been playing around with the format since to find a format that converts better. :-) Thanks!
non of these editor programs in linux work well, pitivi is good for splicing,but messes up the audio,kden is good for overall, but freezes and crashes and wont play your vid in the capture window so you can see what your doing, and kino when you push the play button runs ahead at a million miles an hour. I'm so sick of linux I shoot myself.
I love Linux - removed all my files from my wife's Windows box, but then I've had really stable performance from Cinelerra and Kino on my systems. More stable than what I was using in Windows. What kind of system specs are you running?
Might be the processor - to be truthful, I've used systems with 2G of RAM most of the time, but the weakest processor I've used has been a P4 single core at 2G. Cinelerra is pretty system intensive. Synch problems and preview problems were pretty common when I started running low on system resources, as were crashes. In Windows, I could always preview but editing took forever when I didn't have enough resources. Could be that...
I'd say get a higher speed dual or quad core processor, AMD is fine, and go 64 bit - up your RAM to 8G and you'll probably be in a sweet spot. Rendering is more dependent on the processor, but I've found the more RAM I can throw at it, the better.
OH! No crap sorry I misunderstood. I'd max out the memory if you're looking to beef it up. I ran with 2G and it was BEAUTIFUL, but my NLE programs really did better with more memory. It'll probably be the most bang for the buck. If you're looking to SERIOUSLY upgrade, then like with Windows, the more you throw at it, the better.
Due to it's limited audio tracks, I wouldn't advise it. Cinelerra actually started off as an audio studio and has some pretty solid tools and infinite tracks. ArdourGTK is open source and flat out amazing. Especially since it's JACK based and can be linked with like 30 other apps in realtime, including MIDI devices because of that.
Sure! I run my work laptop with Ubuntu. I use my personal laptop with Xubuntu, which is Ubuntu with the XFCE desktop since my own laptop is pretty low powered. I love how easy it is from Gnome to connect to wireless access points.
Okey. I have installed the latest Ubuntu version, 9.02 or 9.04, dont remember, but anyway, how do i get the drivers for my ATI Gainward HD4830 512 MB DDR3 on Ubuntu? Cause I've tried to put the disc in the computer, and I have downloaded the drivers too, but nothing seems to be working, instead the computer uses the internal graphic card in Ubuntu, any idea about it...?
I'll send you a link that will hopefully help. Best advice (assuming desktop since you have a video card) is to go into the BIOS and make sure the onboard video is disabled. It SHOULD pick the right driver after that, but I have noticed before that Ubuntu will occasionally list the onboard but be running the add-in. Whatever output is going is the correct card regardless of what it says. Hit the Ubuntu forums too, they are a GREAT resource.
Thanks for all the help, but now I have a WAY bigger problem... Now that I have installed the drivers in Ubuntu and while doing that I updated it too, about 20 minutes ago, and now when I try to start Ubuntu the screen goes all white... anyone know what to do?
i have a problem what i want to do is to fade out the video at the end.. but when i add the fade out effect it fades out at he half of the video time, by the time the video is at its ending it is just a black image.....
so there is anyway to add the fade out actually at the end of the video?????????
Same principle as the effects that start at 6:00 in this section of the tutorial and carry over into part 2. When you apply the effect, make sure you limit it to the close (sounds like you are) of the clip but by default it will do it on the WHOLE clip, so make sure you also set the duration for only 1 second and that should clear it up for you.
I don't like kino putting temp files in my home directory. What I do to avoid that is, create a new blank kino project, save it, close kino and, from a terminal,
$ cd /to/my/kino/project/workspace
$ kino project.kino
and that's all, temporary files will be saved in my workspace.
Kino made me want to pound my head into something for a good while. Cinelerra can be as easy as MovieMaker. I'll try and get a video out this weekend on actually using it. Hang in there! All I use Kino for is getting the video onto the computer for Cinelerra to work with.
From the Play button, you should have Play, Step Forward One Frame, End of Scene, End of Project as far as your options. In any case, it should next in line either way from the Play button. Widescreen is just how I shot it, so it was widescreen when it exported from the camera. I don't think there's a masking feature in Kino that will let you convert, it's just how ever it comes out of the camera.

does anyone know how to remove audio from a clip and adding new one ?

@IGB06255 Truthfully, I use Cinelerra for all that. There's not really a decent ability to edit audio in Kino...

hmm,I have an amd dual core 5600 with 2 gig of ram,been thinking about beefing it up,any suggestions?
I'm dual-booting xp and karmic(would LOVE to ditch M$,when linux can do it all for me,or rather when I'm proficient enough!)
AND when things stop crashing!
...please?

you're talking new computer then??(-ouch$)
The box I have is it for some time.upping the processor means a new motherboard?I was told this could only use 4 g ram-?
I'm confused because I thought linux was lighter on resources
Thanks
