  • is this in dadgad tuning?

  • @dfranz3925 I think it's just drop D

  • @ aitraining & kockeykaveman: To compare Rik and Alex is an insult to both. They are altogether different types of rock guitarists. They are true artists in their own individual rights. Rik an artist of scales and arpeggio and a hard rock approach, and Alex an artist of off-beat time-changing tremolos, feeling-driven fills and screaming single-notes with the more progressive Steve howe short of playing style. Really you just can't compare them. Listen to Beyond Borders and you see the difference

  • rike emmett is andalways will be great alix lifeson is good but hes no rik emmett not even close

  • @kockykaveman I agree! Rik in a shootout would kill Alex

  • Once again. 100,000 people like something. How does it feel to be the two that don't like?

  • AWESOME

  • Epic Mullet Guy: "we're all kinda like basking in the afterglow are we.......(awkward pause)......boy that was just great."

    Rik: "ummm....thanks."

  • I remember the first time I saw a Triumph album in the rack as a teenager I dismissed it as a Rush rippoff being the Rush fanatic that I was. I would come to realize later on how different the two bands were and what a great talent and personality Rick Emmit is.

  • My two favorite guitarists and songwriters right here. AWESOME! Especially Steve Morse. HUGE influence on me.

  • Steve Morse playing all those artificial harmonics is amazing!

  • @Gordfozzfoster

    1) Who is Steve Morris?

  • Comment removed

  • @Gordfozzfoster his last name is Morse not Morris

  • @TwoBitSodapop Morris is the Nova Scotia spelling of Morse...lol...get over it my anal friend

  • @Gordfozzfoster sorry if i offended you

  • @TwoBitSodapop no offence taken...i make huge errors all the time with names. No offence taken. It's all in fun.

  • @Chromatype you really do need to get a life if you find yourself doing spell checks on folk's youtube comments...lol

  • Simply magical.

  • Rik Emmett Steve Morse wow very Cool. Rik Emmett is my Hero likes sus chordes and plays open chordes very Bluesy. Christ thats the World to me. His music is in the language I listen to and my soul follows.

  • you don't get much better than these guys. actually, you don't get better than Steve Morse. Period.

  • I would pay dearly to hear Triumph on more time. As long as long as Rick would play "cool down" one more time.

  • such a beautiful song. perfect name for it too.

  • I think it's great they're both playing Ovations. Totally dates this vid, as does the hair.

  • @benjbass32 So?

  • I heard ,why is not the ultimate guitarists list...Simple, he is this good and this humble!

    No he is great.

  • Rick really has a better resume than Steve,as far as Rock songs,Never surrender.Magic Power,Lay it on the line,Follow your Heart, just that alone,&

A voice,he is under rated,& I always liked Triumph better than RUSH !

  • i am a bit more partial to rush, but although people say that triumph is better/worse than rush, they're two different bands that are totally different. rush takes a really complex approach, and i wouldn't say that they really go crazy; they're reserved in comparison to triumph. triumph is really about rocking out.

i like both bands a ton, whichever way you look at it.

  • WHOA!!!! WHAT?!!!!

  • those harmonics they pull are SICK!

  • That was an incredible performance.

  • This is Rik Emmett's signature song, and what I really liked about the performance is how Rik altered the way in which he played it to make room for Steve to shine as well. It was very generous and shows his respect for Steve.

  • Phenomenal musicianship! Whatever happened to the great guitarists like these? So glad we have these videos to prove what real music was ... and could be again if people cared.

  • @RecordWarped Steve has been the guitarist for Deep Purple for over 15 years now, and Rik joined Gil and Mike to reform Triumph two years ago. Rock on both guys!

  • @RecordWarped They are awesome. For great guitarists today, listen to Derek Trucks, Warren Haynes, Joe Bonamassa. Guys like that are incredible. Plus, Rik and Steve are both still around!

  • @b4d27 Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes are phenomenal guitarists. Thanks for the recommendation of Joe Bonamassa; I'll check him out! It's too bad more people don't support guitarists or real musicianship in general these days.

  • **************

  • Rik's so unfairly underated.Seldom get to see this kind of nice acoustic jams nowadays. Steve is as cool as ever.

  • STEVE MORSE!!!!!!!!!!!

  • another Great Tallent fromOH Canada ! were is morse from

  • That was one of the COOLEST acousic pieces I have ever seen...Been trying for years to get all the basics down on this song, and now Steve Morse has to go throwing in a whole new dimension...

  • i m from hawaii a native,seen Triumph

in 85 aloha dem eva since! come back we miss u guys!

  • I would kill for a clean, high-def copy of this.

  • awesome!

  • I would love to see the whole interview

  • this is mine and my Fiance's wedding music! :-)

  • nice choice

  • this is how 2 play guitar

  • I've seen Steve many times and met him on two ccasions. Truly there is no nicer nor more humble guitar player out there. This is in light of him being one of the finest players out there so it's no small thing. the only thing wrong with the two songs they play is that Rik's guitar has a flat B string in "Up In The Air". Steve comments on this afterward and you can tell during the song that he's grokking on it. But hey - screw it - it's fun!

  • Dave Murray

  • This is true. He is the nicest most approachable famous guitar player I have ever met. God bless you Steve Morse.

  • That was the best variation to any song I've ever heard! Bravo!!

  • Bravo, Cheers, whatever. That's a pleasant guitar experience!

  • AMAZING!!!!!

  • I saw Rick Emmett in a bar upstate NY in 1991. Before he played his most famous hit he spoke of his good friend Alex Lifeson who uses the term "GB's" to describe the chills you get from great music. He then said that he likes to call it....magic power and kicked off the song. Seen them both live and they both give me chills!

  • I am honestly a HUGE fan of both Alex & Rik! With much respect to both of them! They are both "Great, great players" in thier own right!

Tho in my opinion...... I prefer to listen to much more of "King Lerxst" (Alex) ;))

  • I totally agree.

  • I am opposite. I always preferred Rik, although I like them both. I am not comparing skill either, both are amazing.

  • Alex Lifeson or Rik Emmett? Whos better?

The correct answer is: "Neither" Music/Art are not a competition! How can one honestly judge ones interpetation of thier emotion while creating thier art?

They are both comming from completely different places at the musical table!

Rik is classically school trained, precise & quite predictable! Alex for instance is truly an instinctive player as opposed to a methodical player & thus affords him to truly create & have his own unique style!

  • @EndlesslyRocking Rik is better, but only by a hair. Alex & Rik are the greatest ever guitarists.

  • @Sparky71870 WHOA NOW !!! that is a real big statement--first off i can tell you are not a musician by your foolish comment.Music like beauty is in the EAR of theholder, not a competition. Its like saying Beethoven is better than Bach or Mozart. Hendrix is better than EVH, Malmsteen is better than Uli jon Roth.Les Paul is better than DiMeola----- ridiculous. All have their greatness and are masters at their craft.

  • @wacmac1 Wow! And you accuse me of not being a musician. I actually do play a little guitar, though not as well as Rik or Alex. Tell me how I'm foolish because I think they are the greatest guitarists. Do you have opinions? If you do, you're a fool (according to your own statement). If you don't like Alex & Rik, just come right out and say it; don't bash me just because I do like them. By the way, I never said anything about it being a competition.

  • @Sparky71870 First off -i apologise for any offense toward you--and i Love both Emmit and Alex andnot to would be foolish. i am hyper sensative(to a fault ) when i judge opinions on music. and my apologies, i was venting, please dont take it personally.

  • @wacmac1 Ok. It's all good. Sometimes I get a little over-sensitive too, so don't worry about it. Besides, how can I hold a grudge against someone who obviously loves music as much as I do? And I apologize for taking your prior comment personally. So, no hard feelings.

  • @wacmac1 Well said, too bad more don't understand what you say.

  • @EndlesslyRocking well Rik Emmett is, because if you were at the US festival in 1983 like I was .....you would have heard and saw the works of a GODS solo that hot ass day!!! Love Alex too....but Rik is the best guitarist that ever walked GODs green earth.....atleast it was green in 1983. God BLess Randy Rhoads too,,,,who never , which everyone, who is anyone knows ,never reached his full potential.

    Thx for listening STUON 22

  • @EndlesslyRocking I think Leif Erickson was better because he had the advantage of being a Viking. They could pretty much do anything they please with no consequences. Carry on.

  • Comment removed

  • @EndlesslyRocking Forgive me for making this assumption, but my guess is that you prefer Lifeson. Would I be right in this statement? You seem to respect his spontaneity over Emmett's styling. However, I must mention that Lifeson also took classical guitar lessons, but abandoned them so he could stay with Rush.

  • @EndlesslyRocking that´s the question....jeje great guitarris both..

  • g'day ladies and gentlemen!!

gotta admit, thats a tough call, whether Rik is a better player than Mr. Lifeson......

I've been a big RUSH fan for a lot of years,

and would be honoured to sit down and

jam with either one of them!!

  • Well said! :)

  • thanks for the responses, much appreciated !

  • Can someone tell me when this was?

Steve Morse is looking younger and has his hair longer.

  • 2 Underated Players here boy..........GW

  • This is a real feast of guitars thansk Goofy

  • Great duet between Rik and Steve. Might be the best rendition I've heard yet.

But to the guy with the Alex comment...uh,I don't think so bro. lol

  • I remember that VJ from Much Music! sniveling little weasel!

  • Someone tell me, you think rikk is better then alex lifeson??? dying to here some response

  • asolutley.............rik will school alex

  • Thats a tough call? I think technically yes. As far as influencial, Alex is more so!

  • well Rik is a great singer, they're both awsome guitarist's,I think Rush was a little more out there and Triumph is more down to earth.

  • 3SHIFTGTR- Profoundly stated.

  • wow thats amazing!!!!

  • Beautiful. Made me cry P)

  • Very nice

  • I love to listen and play music by Rik Emmett. Especially Mid Summers daydream!!!

  • Wicked. Just wicked. Two seriously under-rated guitarists in their prime. I can't think of anything that either of them has played that sucked.

  • Steve Morse. Rik Emmett.

    WHAT!

  • hey rik you're my inspiration,i can play some of yours.

There'sno petite etude on utube,i'll play it soon

  • Music, originality, spontenaouty, emotion. Those guys enjoyed the hell out of themselves playing that song. Emit being honored to have Morse's willingness, Morse being honored by the invitation. "flubs, mistakes, errors" exist in music only to those that are "rookies". A true Master will consider a "change" as an opportunity to create something genious and original, never being heard before or since. i.e. Hendrix, I wonder if any of his solo's were ever identical, things that make you go hmmmmmm?

  • right except for the fact that proffesional musicians make mistakes too!

  • why as soon as people see two guitarist together they have to compare. they are both amazing. if you dont like one of them you can still respect that they can play their instrument better than any of us. they are both priveldged to play with each other.

  • Great people/Great song... this is what music is all about (human beings) on the same page. Genuine and sincere - unlike all that other "crap" floating around that "they" refer to as "music". Good for the soul...

  • wow..morse duet with emmet..it's a great momment..

they both are awesome..can't not be compared each other..thanks..

  • TRIUMPH IS FINALLY REUNITING

  • why you humiliate Rik Emmett. . . something that I know is that there's a guitar player or players got to an incredible level that is not comparible with other. . .they develop there UNIQUE STYLE by leveling up themselves

  • Machine 1 - easy there junior...Triumph has been making records since the 70's. In that time, Rik was considered a killer rock player. He always showed respect to guys like SM. Don't forget that in the 70's, Morse played fusion. Rik asked his management in the late 70's to book The Dregs to warm up for Triumph. That takes balls and respect. SM has more technique etc., but that isn't the point in this vid is it? It's two cats with mutual respect playing some celtic styled acoustic. Period.

  • really classical music man great musicians, today MTV is full of crap

  • steve can barely keep up with Rik. Rik is 100 times better than Steve.

  • You need to put the crack pipe down dude. These guys are both phenomenal guitar players. Rik is great don't get me wrong, but Steve can hang right with him anyday.

  • LOL you are retarded..Steve is 10,000 times the guitarist Rik could ever be, its like a teacher doing a duet with his student here..and Rik needs more lessons..

  • Dont Talk Shit about Rik, Asshole. Steve Is a fucking Piece of shit with no techinque, Rik is a fucking Master at Classical Guitar. Steve uses a fucking pick for christ's sake, Its way fucking harder to use your fingers like Rik.

  • You need to watch Steve's classical solo's, he uses his fingers in that vid. Oh, and both of them are amzing, you can't compare two legends.

  • really cool..........thanks.

  • Is this MTV? My god, they would never have something like this now. Just bubble gum pop or rap.

  • I had the opportunity to meet Rik Emmett twice at guitar clinics. He is a very nice and genuinely humble person.

  • kudos on emmit playing morse's song almost perfectly, sad to say but u cant say the same about morse

  • Actually, that's Triumph's/Rik's song that Morse is guesting on (hmm, is 'guesting' even a word?)...

  • i know thats emmets song from triumph i was refering to the other video from the same performance were rik played morses song perfectly...

  • Right! I took a look at that one after I found this - that was good...

  • Hmmm, watched this twice now, where exactly did Steve flub? Sure they changed it around a bit, but I think they played it how they intended to play it :o

  • mike oldfield is better than both these guys

  • MO is not even in the same league as either of these landmark players. Morse is not even human; simply unbelievable.

  • though i agree Morse is unbelievably good. i think being human is what makes his feel so great :)

  • amazing, 2 guitar gods jammin', notice there's no ego's, kick ass that's real cool. i always loved to see that kinda stuff

  • That was the best man, two of my favorite guitar players of all all time.

  • Why is it Rik is all but forgotten in the US, and Randy Rhoads is remembered as some god? This is a much harder and more beautiful piece than Dee.

  • You know, I saw Randy perform with Ozzy on their only tour together, way back when, a few years after I'd seen Van Halen on their first tour. Randy was not nearly as impressive as Eddie Van Halen in concert.

  • I think it's because they're caught up in the whole fact that Randy died early in life and didn't have the opportunity reach his true potential as a musician. it's just the way it is, dead musicians seem to get more attention. but I do agree with you

  • Oh boy...

  • this song is so amazing and with to guitars it is the most amazing thing of my life.

to bad it was written twenty years before the begining of my life.

  • WAAAY too sa-weet. This punk who got to be there...I hate 'im. That must have been just UNREAL.

  • Thankyou for posting this magic!!!

  • This is just unbelievable.

  • that was fantastic

  • Is this from "In the Studio" on CHCH? got the one with Rik and Bruce Cockburn?

  • This was recorded in the Much Music Enviroment.

  • Talent like this always gets snowed under by soulless, manufactured crap. Pity.

  • Tell it like it is mate.

  • Why cant artists today play like this? Indie sucks, Morse/Emmett rock!!!!

  • You're not kidding. A few years ago I saw Black Sabbath in concert, and Godsmack opened for them. Godsmack was nothing but relentless power-chords, whereas Tony Iommi's playing was soooo much more interesting and soulful. I really miss the days when bands went out of their way to make music rather than just churn out singles.

  • I've always loved this piece but hearing it with two guitars and with harmonies???...WOW!!

  • Thanks for posting! I'd never imagine Steve and Rik teaming up with acoustic guitars! And boy...what a tune!

  • Thanks for sharing, man!!!!!

  • Good Lord above! How amazing

  • 感動した

  • Excellent Guitar playing from two of the best guitarist in the world!!!

  • Emmett is a monster on acoustic! as is the Steve!

  • Way cool

  • Great Stuff ! Any more !

    I love it
