The whole series was filmed in New Zealand expect where David Balfour was kidnapped. That was The Hawes Inn, South Queensferry, Scotland. Personally, I hated the series, the Michael Caine film in 1971 was superior and, even better, READ THE BOOK !!!!!!!
WOW I haven't heard this piece of music in ages....Loved the series and loved the music...i know they did a stupid dance version (as per usual) a few years ago and it was shite LOL...what a great post..!!!
A truly epic series. I bought the DVD from Play.com, mainly to get the haunting theme tune & ended up watching it all in one night. RLS is one of the world's greatest storytellers; this is a masterpiece. Add to that a stellar cast, the beauty of Scotland & the interweaving of love, rebellion & revenger. It's almost unbelievable that this was a kids' series. Oh, and Aude Landry is astonishingly beautiful too.
thanks,i`ve been looking for some time for this.im now 36,and i bought this when it came out on 7 inch single, thanks, this takes me to my childhood.xx.xx
I've been searching years for this. Thanks. I saw a little boy sing beautiful LYRICS to this song while walking down the middle of the street in daylight. This was on PBS probably between 5 to 8 years ago, and seemed to have nothing to do with the series, it was like a music video, strange to me at the time. It seemed to be airing on that channel almost randomly. Anyone have a clue about that rendition?
I am 38 years of age and remember this series and haunting music from when I was 8. I have been looking for this theme music for the last 20 years (no lie)
What a powerful piece. Anyone who has Celtic blood could not be be moved by it.
Found the complete series on Amazon.co.uk last night and ordered it on the spot.
Actually, it's not a British series. It was produced mostly with German and French money. But it was also shown on television in the US . The director was Jean Pierre Decourt. Alan Breck was played by David McCallum, David Balfour by Ekkehardt Belle. You can get the English version on DVD from Amazon UK if you look under "Kidnapped - The Complete Series".
@slightlygrouchy It's traditionally a British story though, and the performers are British, British produced Peter Graham Scott, and the music was made by a Romanian, and performed by the wembley music orchastra, again British.
And in the 70s a lot of money came from overseas for British TV and film, so it wasnt that unique.
Oh my gosh I remember watching this on telly when I was a young girl. I totally loved it. This song is so haunting and beautiful. I have the 45 of this song, not played it in years, the B side is Katrina's song, equally as beautiful. Thank you so much for posting you touched my heart.
I remember watching the mini series on HTV in Ireland though South Coast TV. I was only 10 years old and it was the highlight of my week. I Just loved the show but I think it was watching it with my father is the strongest memory. It was the first TV show we shared a interest in........Ah sure they were the good days being a young lad.
