The most striking difference as far as I can see is that the speaker in the UK parliament controls members during proceedings, whilst the Aussie speaker seems to direct them and has total control; almost like a ringmaster

1. The Standing Orders here say that a Member may raise a point of order at any time. The Speaker is then bound by the Orders to rule on the point of order.
