  • I feel so nostalgic and I love with a time that I never knew

  • Where have all the Nagels gone?

I worked at a frame shop in Long Beach during the 80's, when Nagel prints became the Beanie Babies of the (temporarily) moneyed cokehead elite.

They would line up for each new print, which would then bounce to astronomical heights in cost.

We framed them in black enamel with elaborate mat cut-outs using archival methods, all of which could add a thousand or so to the cost.

    Then POOF! Gone.

    I'm not knocking Nagel.

But it's too bad he couldn't get his share.

  • Yes I have the large acrylic on canvas of the Blue Bikini Girl, undoing the right strap ,loosely, on her suit...go to Pat Nagel's site and you will view the image...let me know if serious ,as I am practically giving it away , due to the economy.

    All best,

    K

  • Patrick Nagel = One of the Great American Illustrators. WE LOVE His Work!

    This Music However SUCKS!

  • I love his art I love how he draws the body with harsh lines and the face with soft lines I think Nagel was in love with her he seems to draw the Same woman and u people are stupid saying it's perverted art is not perverted it beauty and I'm 15

  • What is the name of this song?

  • All of his work is so elegant and captivating. Also, the yuppie in the Lucky Strike advertisements has an uncanny resemblance to Patrick Bateman. How cool is that? Too bad he passed away in 1985. I wonder what his work in the 90's would have been like...

  • i hate those horribly tacky 80s hair/nail salon women on the window. but now i know the originals were by patrick nagel and his work look sooo much better. it is sad those copy catters spoiled his style =(

  • I have a question for whoever can help me. I have a very big painting and it looks like its from this artist. How can I tell if it's a real Patrick Nagel painting? or did he only do posters, thanks in advance.

  • i am going to be one of nagels lovely ladies for halloween!

  • love dark haired girls...

  • @mysteryloser24 You just dont understand, maybe if you were an artist you would. I am not yet the great artist ill soon be, but I do understand that Nagel is showing the beauty in a womans body, and how every curve should be admired. I believe that God's greatest work of Art is man, and we should appriciate that.

  • @GrowlitheTheGlorious How would you know I'm not an artist? I could be better than you for all you know. I just think it's perverted and sick, that's my opinion and I'm entitled to it. I think you must be a little big headed if you can say you'll soon be a great artist. You can't possibly know how your life will turn out. You could wake up tomorrow with no talent at all, and never paint or draw again. That would suck wouldn't it? :/

  • @mysteryloser24 my apologies. but dont you know that you can become, create or do anything you want in the world?i want to become a great artist! and i believe that. if i believe it i will recieve it.and i will have a great life i know it! and thats fine, you are correct we are all entitled to our own opinion. i just believe that the human body is a work of art, and we should just appriciate it. i used to think it was "perverted" too but i learned to appriciate it.

  • @GrowlitheTheGlorious The human body can be a work of art, but it is in the eye of the beholder. Some people think little girls bodies are beautiful, does that make it right to want them? You've got to think and look at it from different points of view, and not just your own. And no, you can't do anything you want in the world, or certain things that I and other people like would be acceptable, but they're not.

  • @mysteryloser24 but patrick nagel is not a perverted person. besides, real people who pose in the nude are not ashamed of their bodies, its your body, your home, you should love yourself and know that you are beautiful. why should putting it into an art piece make it seem disgusting? you appriciating the home your spirit lives in!

And the universe is your cataloug, you can ask it for anything if you truly believe youll have it. then you will recieve it.

  • @GrowlitheTheGlorious But how can you have anything you want if you believe you'll get it? There are things I'd love to have, but I never will, and I know I never will, and if I do, they'll be followed closely by a jail sentence ;) How do you know Patrick Nagel is not perverted? He could have the dirtiest, most perverted mind on the planet, but you'd never know it unless you were him. These assumptions are what hold you back and stop you seeing the real gravity and reality of the situation...

  • @mysteryloser24 i think you really need to watch "The Secret" it will help you

  • @GrowlitheTheGlorious No, I don't need to watch anything. Perhaps you need to take a look at what you've been saying and understand where you're going wrong. Just because you want something, doesn't mean you'll get it, or that you're entitled to it. Like I said, if I got what I wanted, I'd be locked away for a long time. I'm just not that stupid. I regard this as the end of the discussion, it would be nice if you simply didn't reply and got on with your life, twisted though your views are... :/

  • @mysteryloser24 peace be with you

  • @mysteryloser24 Sorry but who's the one finding perversion in his work? You! Partially nude or fully nude women are very common in art, whether it's drawing, painting, photography..so why do you target Patrick Nagel? Because the women in his paintings were a little bit cheeky and sexy? Get over it! As for being held back, look who's talking! Some sexually repressed lunatic Hello Kitty fan. Do you really think Nagel would give a shit about your opinion?

  • @alex6847 I don't really care what the pervert would think about my opinion to be perfectly honest, nor do I care what you think. Sexually repressed? Get over yourself, you moron... Just because I find naked paintings offensive you have to have a go at me directly? The fact of the matter is that these paintings are publicly available to anyone at all to see, which means children too. So, there's something wrong with me for not wanting children to have to be subjected to this perversion?

  • @mysteryloser24 Oh yes I do so agree, I hate hearing all those awful stories about parents forcing their children to look at these horribly graphic and overtly sexual Patrick Nagel paintings! Get real you cunt.

If you want to get on a soapbox about children being exposed to sexuality, there are songs on the radio full of sexual innuendo and music videos where girls are wearing next to nothing, and they're far more readily available to children than these paintings.

  • @alex6847 Yes, I understand that there is disgusting music out there too, and I've heard small children singing "Kesha" songs, it's disturbing... To be perfectly honest, I really couldn't give a shit what you've got to say to me, about anything. The fact of the matter is that I find these pictures revolting, and I am allowed to voice my opinions. That's the beauty of freedom of speech. ;) Whether you agree with me is neither here nor there, I couldn't care less, quite frankly...

  • @mysteryloser24 And yeah you obviously are sexually repressed if you find Nagel's work so terrible and offending. There are no women being raped in any of these paintings, no one being hurt or abused in any way. If there were, THAT would be perverted. I just think it's bizarre that in your crusade against sexuality the person you take issue with is Nagel. Did you draw his name from a hat or something? It all just seems very weird and random to me.

  • Dont know a great deal about this guys work. The Models in Robert Palmer's controversial "Addicted to Love" video were apparantely based on his work. Some very interesting and provocative images.

  • 5 stars =), what is the name of the sound?

  • I adore this video, the song is incredibly fitting for the images!!!! 5/5 stars!!!!

  • he inspired me to paint in acrylic. so lovely and flat. shame about the bastardization of his art in every hair salon window and dry cleaner. nagel is a guilty pleasure. tacky yet beautifully executed and original.

  • Very good wording of it all, around Seattle I see those tacky knockoffs in the nail shops all the time!!!!

  • @disconnect4 haha...yes. Go to Davis, California and if you are lucky you will have the pleasure of dining at one of the finer local culinary establishments, Hunan's Chinese Cuisine. Amidst the glory of it all, are several Patrick Nagel prints adorning the wall and adding to the ambiance. Classic.

  • @disconnect4 Hahaha, my aunt was a hairdresser and I remember she had a Nagel print in her salon in the 90s. Good times.

  • At 0:48, by chance I purchased this print this past Monday, it's called Palm Springs Life!!

  • Great song with a great video!! Long live the memory of the legendary Patrick Nagel!!!! I'm an enthusiastic collector of Nagel art, and am up to owning 30 now! When I move into a larger home, I'm going to create a Nagel room displaying all of my Nagels!!

Who else here collects Nagel prints? Aside from Nagel, I also love Keith Haring, and Makai, a former understudy of Nagel! But for me Nagel is my #1 favorite artist of ALL time!!!!

    XOXOXO

  • Does anybody know what the painting with the lips is called?

The one with the lips and tongue...

    thanks.

    -luke.

  • When I met Pat Nagel in June 1983 he was one of the nicest artists that I have ever interviewed..he explained how he purchased all of the regs the mods wore, how they worked all night long, sniffing coke and driking soda and eating tins of tuna snd garbage food, until he was satisfied with the image...his wife,Jennifer now has all rights to his work and one day I will post the huge orignal painting I bought from Pat.

    RIP Pat...

  • Thanks for sharing your story repelghosts, absolutely amazing to read it!! xo

  • My favorite artist. Thanks for the post.

  • Awesome 71brighteyes, Nagel is my favorite artist too!!!! xoxo

  • Wow! His artwork is just great. It's a real tragedy he died so early on. He is truly an icon of 80's art.

  • miss the 80's

    anyone know the song playing?

  • David A Stewart and Candy Dulfer - 'Lily was here'

  • Takes me back to the '80s. ...and that's a good thing. Nice work!
