i actually really wish i was in the US so i can join marines, but since im not i plan to join the CF which aparently is just as good. you get more training but the marines has better/harder training.
i'm highly considering enlisting soon. i want to pursue a degree in psychology, once obtained i wish to eventually further my education and get my masters/ph d in that field. if i obtain my b.s. degree while enlisted and i become an officer, will the Marines help pay me to get my graduate degree or would i have to wait until i finish active duty as an officer?

Ya know, I am a veteran and I served a little over 4 years with 2 deployments. When I enlisted, I was "awarded" $28,000 for the GI Bill. However, my recruiter never stated I had to pay into the GI Bill in order to get it so when I got out, I got ZERO. Serve your country, there's nothing else like it, but at least inform the newest recurits of all branches how all of this works. It's a great thing, but I'm not the only veteran to run into this problem.. God bless the USA

If the United States raised taxes to pay for everyone's education like other nations then there would be less people joining the military. People argue against raising taxes but look at the higher quality of life in those nations. Nobody should need to be willing to kill or risk dying, hoping they get enough money for a college degree. It is dehumanizing. Other developed nation's with such a tax system have better students and a better workforce. The USA is not number one in education.
@kishanman1 They're a specialization class in the Army, they focus on flanks and ambushes. There's also Army Sappers, which are Battle Engineers that blow everything up. Army also has the Green Beret, which are basically super Infantry.
DONT FORGET AIRFORCE HAS COMBAT CONTROL, ALONG WITH TACTICAL AIR COMAND AND CONTROL PARTY AAAAND LAST BUT NOT LEAST PARARESCUE... pararescue and combat control have a 90% washout rate. thats why there are very few of em compared to the many rangers and many marines in the U.S.
JerryBoxer, props to all the Air Force guys who make special units. No one can craptalk Navy SEALs or pararescue guys but still...Its difficult. In the Army or Marine Corps, you have a majority of guys coming from a combat MOS. You have that Infantry grunt who goes Airbourne, Rangers, SF.
In the Navy or Airforce, if you sign up to be part of a special unit and wash out, does that mean you might be stuck doing an admin job?

Using the 9/11 GI bill here at SIUE in IL sucks. I get $2250 from the old GI BILL. And I get free tuition already from the state of Illinois. BAH here is only $1000/month. So it really depends on where you live, how much the school you are going to costs, and other factors like housing costs in that particular area. New gi bill doesn't pwnd. It really depends on several factors, and what else you might be getting from other sources for school.

None of this really matters. It took "6 weeks" to apply, then another 6 weeks to get the school information verified. That 6 weeks was extended to 12 weeks. Enjoy your debt. It's a good thing I decided to keep in contact with some Japanese friends or I'd be yet another debt-riddled veteran. Thanks, America.

If you join as a reserve, you go to bootcamp if you go active you can actually do college on base for your generals, then you get to go to the colleges wherever your posted, honestly its best if you talked to a recruiter
you will pay alot less for college in the long run if you join the military first because the GI Bill will help cover your expenses. if you go to schooland then join the military, you will have to pay out of your own pocket.
Yea I'm going to boot camp in exactly 10 days but my friend just graduated school with me and he is going to college first and then straight to officer school and the military is paying for his college I guess its ok but my uncle went into the marines and did college then went to officer school he said you get more respect doing that because you actually have to go through boot camp so that' what I'm going to do but talk to your recruiter before you do anything mine was really helpful.
@joshxxt yes. actually, you could be an officer in the Marines if you get a degree first. you could also just enlist normally if you want, though recruiters would probably try and pressure you into being an officer

@kishanman1 They're a specialization class in the Army, they focus on flanks and ambushes. There's also Army Sappers, which are Battle Engineers that blow everything up. Army also has the Green Beret, which are basically super Infantry.
Navy has Navy Seals, Air Force has pilots.

DONT FORGET AIRFORCE HAS COMBAT CONTROL, ALONG WITH TACTICAL AIR COMAND AND CONTROL PARTY AAAAND LAST BUT NOT LEAST PARARESCUE... pararescue and combat control have a 90% washout rate. thats why there are very few of em compared to the many rangers and many marines in the U.S.

JerryBoxer, props to all the Air Force guys who make special units. No one can craptalk Navy SEALs or pararescue guys but still...Its difficult. In the Army or Marine Corps, you have a majority of guys coming from a combat MOS. You have that Infantry grunt who goes Airbourne, Rangers, SF.
In the Navy or Airforce, if you sign up to be part of a special unit and wash out, does that mean you might be stuck doing an admin job?

Using the 9/11 GI bill here at SIUE in IL sucks. I get $2250 from the old GI BILL. And I get free tuition already from the state of Illinois. BAH here is only $1000/month. So it really depends on where you live, how much the school you are going to costs, and other factors like housing costs in that particular area. New gi bill doesn't pwnd. It really depends on several factors, and what else you might be getting from other sources for school.

None of this really matters. It took "6 weeks" to apply, then another 6 weeks to get the school information verified. That 6 weeks was extended to 12 weeks. Enjoy your debt. It's a good thing I decided to keep in contact with some Japanese friends or I'd be yet another debt-riddled veteran. Thanks, America.

Sounds like a good deal there, and I live in michigan so that was a good example. Does that bill cover just about anyone with the typical 4 year enlistment? I dont know if I will ever sign up, but it sounds like a good option to keep in mind none the less.

I heard a guy from the Navy said that he got screwed out of his G.I. Bill, and he had to pay for that laptop they give you. And it was a shame he was actually decorated too. I'd stay away from the Military's promises (lies)....

If you join as a reserve, you go to bootcamp if you go active you can actually do college on base for your generals, then you get to go to the colleges wherever your posted, honestly its best if you talked to a recruiter

you will pay alot less for college in the long run if you join the military first because the GI Bill will help cover your expenses. if you go to schooland then join the military, you will have to pay out of your own pocket.

Yea I'm going to boot camp in exactly 10 days but my friend just graduated school with me and he is going to college first and then straight to officer school and the military is paying for his college I guess its ok but my uncle went into the marines and did college then went to officer school he said you get more respect doing that because you actually have to go through boot camp so that' what I'm going to do but talk to your recruiter before you do anything mine was really helpful.
