It's a programmable tach you tool. You didn't red line it. That red light circling the tach comes on at programmable shift point's for dumbass's like you. If your in sport mode this comes in handy. Allows the driver to modify the torque somewhat when drving around killing Acura's, Honda's, Infiniti's, Mustang's, and amy other idiot hater's of car's they can't afford.
whats wrong with taking the car to 6,400 rpm?? thats what its limited to and will prolly hit that mark every time u race it.. what is wrong with ppl writing stupid comments like its a good way to fuck your car. fucking idiots. take the limiter off and i bet this car will go to 7000 for a long time. 6400 is its safe level from factory. kids
@coolerdude44 no shit knob jockey. if u wana sit on 6400 all day then go ahead be a dumb cunt. when ur actually driving it how long is it actually at 6400 rpm for?? even at flat stick .. barely a second. what i meant by safe level is its not gona break b4 warrenty.
One small correction there professor: you didn't "redline" your dad's IS350. That light that comes on around the tach? Yeah, it's programmable, so the fact that it came on at 5k RPM means nothing. Quit watching that rad video long enough to notice that redline is at 7K...the car shifted at 6,500. I know math makes that thing between your ears hurt, but trust me on this one.
You dont deserve a car if thats how your going to treat it. I mean 100 miles on the clock and you have bad gas mileage, so you must have a lead foot meaning you like to drive everywere at 5000rpm. And then you go and redline it.
And all these things you shouldn't do anyway, especially in the cars 1000 mile running in period. And when you does breakdown prematurely, your going to be wondering why....
@djderk I work at one of the largest lexus dealers in america and I guarantee that things been redlined every time it had to been moved from the time it rolled off the truck
actually, it's pretty good to apply firm throttle during break in period, allowing the rings to seal properly. lazy break-in doesn't give enough pressure to the seal rings to scuff properly. google it a bit more, I've run in two new cars, 1 scoot and 1 motorcycle and they've all been redlined the first time they warmed up. today i get better mileage, no oil consumption and probably more HP although i cant feel it :-)
actually it is quiet bad for any vehical to be redlined within the break in period when the engine is new everything is tight and redlining will cause scaring along the cylinder wall and if u take care of a vehical it shouldent burn oil
it will cause scaring just the same if you redline the car while the engine is cold - why is this caused, because the piston expands before the cylinder wall does. the way to do it is the way I said it :-) if you're so scared of high rpm's, just apply firm (full!!) throttle in the middle range (where the torque is the highest), to have maximum cylinder pressure available which will firmly expand the compression ring to make it scuff properly! hard to explain really, i would have to draw it :)
i understand the concept but when the engine is new u shouldent do that whether its warm or cold becasue even when the eninge is warm and new it is still tight inside becasue nothing is worn down and not as much oil can get to all the parts and not as quick, im just saying i dont recomend doing this till the engine is fully warn in after that go hard!
actually u can change when the redline thingy appears. i use to get scared cause i always do past 75 mph and the redline use to appear, i changed mine to 100 mph. by the way i have the is350, sweet freakin ride
Correct, The dealers always say 1200 miles. but if you hit the hit way and travel 50 miles at almost wide open throttle. the rings will seal and then you dont have to worry about babing the car
Lexus dont need to be taken slow when just purchased. And the red line is something you can set yourself, to remind you not to go over a certain speed or a certain RPM. It has nothing to do with a maximum speed or overspeed or anything, its just a reminder. Just turn it off if you dont like it, if you even know how to. Doesnt seem you know anything about this car
Good one. Rev to 6 and a half grand like that on an engine with less than 1000 miles on it and I bet you will be burning oil like a 1975 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme before your lexus even gets to 100K miles.
Not to mention your engine will never make as much power as everyone elses is350 who actually cares about their car enough to break in the engine properly.... :-/

@parabpbpbp you're a moron, every time you take your engine above 4,000 rpm you're putting serious strain on the valves.

@coolerdude44 Not always true. Depends on the car. I know shifting before 4k in my car, the speed increases so slowly I could run faster.
