I love this song and the imagery in the video....but the energy of the song is inspiring...and video is somehow "dead". What a disconnect. Thanks for posting, though...It's very interesting.
Well, first of all, music videos for non-mainstream artists were really not that flashy back then (what budget did they have really?) Even in the 90s they were pretty basic, some of Slowdive's videos are just imagery of nature or whatever. Second of all, I actually like how subdued this video is, because in my mind this track is so complex and larger than life, it's a nice juxtaposition. At least to me. YMMV of course
@thesilvernymph slug is not primitive rap. but through you're eyes, any genre of music that consists of mostly black artists is less intelligent than those of white artists. i agree that rap can be meaningless, but no more than any other genre. most 80s rock (maybe felt too im not sure) is about having sex with women and doing cocaine. and you're calling this (youtube.com/watch?v=qEHTTFOwsDs) primitive? atmosphere is slug by the way. listen to the whole song, maybe it'll change your view of rap.
Discovered Felt when Something Sends Me To Sleep came out on 7". One of the first records I ever bought... and one of the best. They still sound great!
ahhhh memories dear old friend such a brilliant song. Felt were truly underrated but wont be forgotten, great music never dies. What a tragedy the stupid You Tube video to Fortune is, one of their best songs. Everybody should listen to Crumbling the antiseptic beauty....
I hate to say this, I really hate to say this, but it sounds like that song by 4 nonblonds. Now dont get mad, mayhaps it came out earlier. If not, well???
@makesenseofthis If doss means real cool person, I definately agree, however, if it means stupid jerkoff, I'm in big trouble!!! Don't get me wrong, I love Felt, and this song, but, surely you must see simularity.
reply: I don't and stop calling me Shirley! HA HA!!!
@MoontownMoss The obnoxious one they played on the radio. I cant think of the name, but it was a hit, and should be posted on youtube. Just click in 4nonblonds, and when you see the clip with the grubby looking chicks, that's the one!
@kaguth ok just found out it is her, interesting. Not to familiar with felt, but have been a long time listener to Cocteau twnis and this mortal coil.
Great single from a great album. This should have led to some sort of commercial success but the next album Let the Snakes Crinkle Their Heads to Death was awful.
OMG! Phil King is playing a 12-string! I knew it! He's not a bassist! Phil, WTH? That stuff you were slinging for Lush was so terrible compared to this! I'm #31,694 on 9/25/09. I gave this gem five stars.
Oh really? The same thing happened to me! I was looking around for more (original 80's) Felt songs, and this trashy hip hop 'music' comes up. I couldn't exit out fast enough D:
If anybody's interested in any original recordings of the band message me because I have some original presses due to the fact my father (Nick Gilbert) was the bassist.
i just don't think it matches the music. whenever i listen to Felt can almost feel a visiualization of your guitars dancing in the air to reach my ears while the singer tries to vocalization the beauty within the music. this video just aint doing it for me. great band and song regardless.
Epic. I remember when I bought the vinyl in 1987 in the Brazilian release occasion. My information about the band at the time was none. I heard "Primitive Painters" and bought the LP, just because this song. Was the most happy acquisition of my life: a vynil plenty of marvelous tracks and the discovering of a fabulous extraordinary band/artists.
the other guy on the 12 strings guitar should be Maurice Deebank , the great guitarist who can't be compared to no other indie alternative guitar player

Hip Hop me and LF36MC is for adults, what you think is hip hop undoubtedly isnt. Also you were just stereotyping which proves that ignorance is for you.
Yes Liz Frazer and Lawrence on vocals here and in The day the rain came down, the producer was Robin Guthrie in the 12" and Ignite the Seven cannons and set sail for the sun LP.
This song is amazing! One of the best songs of 80's. Lawrence's voice matched perfeclty with Liz Fraser's vocals. And this guitar makes me fly. Thanks for posting.
And Lawrence: You didn't failed. Felt was a band beyond of its time, that's all.
When Lawrence smiles, his face lights up the heavens, and a tiny teardrop falls from a friendly cloud, and the wind whispers, don't cry, everything will be alright, if only you've been felt.
I used to have some Felt albums, and always loved this song. Thanks for posting it.

The only problem with the college radio station I listened to in the 80's was that they never told you what song it was they just played.
I bought every Cocteau Twins album I could find (loved every one of them, not regretting it in the least) looking for this song.
Wish I'd had the internet back then.
