merlosmusicofficial - in reply, you right click on the metronome and then choose say, a ONE BAR count-in. this gives you 4 clicks before the recording starts enough time to get ready!
how do i make that the "play button(ableton's)" start like 3 second after hitting space bar? when i hit the space bar it starts super fast. do you know what i mean? thank you man.
@EraOfBloodtv It sounds like you might have a setup where your input level is too high. Please contact tech support directly so that we can assist you with this: ableton.com/support/contact_technical_support
Solution: I reduced the input volume on my interface (based on how high the gain was) to give the volume I want without getting feedback. Also, I get a slight delay in audio that was bothering me, so I turned the input all the way down, recorded my piece, then turned the input (on the interface) back up to listen to it. Helped a touch with "recording anxiety" as well. Good luck.
@EraOfBloodtv If your using a laptop and it has a mic, chances are you havent changed your input/output in audio preferences. I'm just speaking from my own experience.
all i can get when i pull up an audio track is the left part that says guitar 1 mixer and speaker on. any clue how i can get my mic working in this program?
Hey, thanks! This video was super helpful. I've only got one question: I'm having a latency issue on my Ableton 8.1. Now I've found the area to change the latency buffer and such, but I was wondering if there was an easier way to do this than just trial and error until it's just right. Thanks!
is that guitar conected directly to an interface, or its coming from the amp thru mic, or something else?? my guitar sounds horrible conected directly to the fast track.
@Protcall Try to see if you can use a different amp or yeah just go with tech support like Op says but if you torrented like i did it's a bad idea.
How long you been using the program? it's kind of confusing for me, iv'e been using it for about 1 day and the only thing i get confused in is how to add different tracks and edit them separately (not at the same time just switch back an forth)or is it better to get a sort peripheral ?
@Protcall turn the input volume down. distortion happens when the pre-amp volume is already too high. this causes over drive and makes the sound distorted. hope i helped.
@lantyboy696 how does yours look different? you can press the tab key to switch between Session View and Arrangement View - maybe that's what was freaking you out? (it's also the two buttons at the top right corner that look like three horizontal and vertical lines)... Ableton's awesome and easy to use!
@theMINT400 I figured out how to get it to look like this, but still cant figure out how to get line6 vst into ableton so it works nice. Trust me this is way harder than cubase to use, and its more messy in apreance.
i took ableton back and got the new cubase6 A million miles better than this heap of crap
@lantyboy696 Ok fair enough. Cubase might be even better, I just didn't understand it. Ableton just makes more sense to me. To each his own, I suppose :) I want to give Logic a try sometime too.
@theMINT400 Alot of 'pro's' use pro-tools aswell i been wanting to try that but its a bit on the expesive side to justify for me. I have heard good things about logic aswell.
Can you please please help me out. I have guitar rig 4 and ableton live 8. Can i somehow connect both? so that i can use effects from guitar rig.... help!
you can search for the vst plugin folder on the browser, if you installed de vst on a custom folder, you need to point the vst defaul folder to it, then you should see it in your browser, then just ddrag and drop onto an audio track, arm the track, set the input, and voila
how can i record my guitar in a stereo track so i can hear it in both monitors instead of just my left monitor. is there a way to do this? every time that i record my guitar i can only hear it back in my left KRK : (
hi i have a question. i have ableton live 8, and when i try to record into arrangment view like you did, it doesnt record anything, only when i record clips.
okay, i have a huge problem, im new to ableton and i have most of it down. My problem is whenever i record anything with, say overdrive, or some massive effect, the playback is all messed up. The first bar or what have you is fine, but everything after that is terrible quality. I'm amusing it has something to do with my I/O buffer thing but i have no idea. really appreciate the help in advance.
i want 2 know if its possible to record 8 different tracks of audio at the same time? i am a drummer and im thinking of getting ableton live 8. but i dnt want any of the drums prerecorded. i want my own
wtf i did everything right and im getting mad distortion on all my recordings no matter how low the volume is....its stopping me from recording some sick music some1 have any idea?
na mate you need an external sound card, it will connect to your PC via USB (most likely depending on what SC you buy), once you connect the external sound card install the drivers, inside the ableton live app you can specify the external card with ASIO driver :NOTE: don't enable the buffering but select in ableton settings "as audio in"... that helps to stop the hellish lag (for me it did anyways)... you need to spend some money on a decent sound card - using onboard = fail
@laterdaaaze NVM i fixed it after hours of whatever and whatnots all i had to do was update my asio driver, route it through ableton and mess around with my audio interface hookups. im too happy right now and im writing mad tracks atm
nice prgram i more luck with it staying in time useing adobie 1.5 and if i could use guitar in fl studio it would be that over anythang easy ti use for loops

does anybody have live lite 7 working on windows 7? it says runtime error when I try to run it... I really need some help, please. It's a Line6 version that i got with the Line6 ux-2.
how did you get the drumming sound at the end of the track? do you download it, or you already made? if i could download it, could you send me a link? thanks :D
What equipment wud I need to play my guitar in Ableton 8, I've got a line 6 POD which has midi ports but I was wandering what cables, converters etc. I need to play my guitar into ableton. Or a list of the equipment you use. Cheers
@xnominalx All daws have hardware buffers, sounds like yours is set high,,look around in the settings or playback options (not familiar with ableton) when u find something that says either 1024 or 512 then u have found it,just change it to 256 and your good,512 and 1024 is more for mixing and playback when u have alot of stuff going on and need alot of memory
Is there a way to program the metronone differently? I often play songs that will switch tempos and time signatures multiple times in a single song. This metronome would completely stop me from playing but i'd like to stay in perfect time if it's going to be a recording which I will loop over other tracks.
What's the easiest way to record yourself on a webcam or camera whilst recording guitar like you have. For example we can see you whilst your playing?
Hi i have a problem im trying to record but i have so much latency and not all the signal goes thorugh the midi and audio tracks are both giving off like a tremlo sort of effect if someone could help me i would be so gratful.
Helpful! How can you use guitar effects with Ableton? I tried a practice recording, but my playback didn't sound the same..Also, how do you get the recording to go to either right or left side? Mine both went to the same side, and pan would not fix it, it just muted the track....
Biggest problem is LATENCY! The frustrating thing is that you see all these vids from Ableton showing how simple etc but none acknowledge the latency problem. I mean this vid for example, he is able to record multiple tracks easily and perfectly in time which is definitely not true with the Abletone 7 that I have! Its misleading!
it probably has about 5ms of latency ....which is basically nothing. You need further hardware to really get zero latency....but who needs that anyway :P
i got this ux2 do this have a EQ where u can EQ your sound? i cannot fine the eq any where? also do this ux2 have any effect bulit in like chors or flanger for u to add on later on.
I have a lot of troubs with the latency of the guitar input (I use an Edirol UA 25 ex interface) even when i change the input buffer size and output It still is 2.67 ms late, can someone help me??
I'm not familliar with this program, because I just got it with my line 6 toneport, but I'm sure you can change the output configuration so that it does. I'll message you when I find out for sure.

Can someone please help me with this? I need to know if there's any possibility to reverse a track (in order to produce Jimi Hendrix like solos)? I have Ableton 7.0.10. Thanks in advance
Yeah dude, double clip the audio clip, then make sure the Sample box is open, if not, click the little button near the left-hand bottom corner in between the 'L' and 'E' buttons.
Then, in the Sample box, find the 'Rev' buttun and click it.
That's the simplest way to reverse your audio.
In all honesty though, being a guitarist myself, I'ld get a multi-effects pedal to accomplish that effect more convincingly!
How do you play perfectly in time with the metronome? My strumming is always out a fraction and with 2 guitar tracks it sounds messy. Is there a way to post edit the wave recordin so it plays exactly in sync? thanks
No technology for that just yet. At least not in real time. You can always quantize the audio in the Clip View after recording. Also check your latency settings in the prefs.
This is simply practice. When I start learning guitar, my teacher let me clap rhythms to the metronome and I had it to practice at home for hours, until it was perfect. A lack of practice in playing an instrument cannot be compensated by software. How will you ever play in a band when you cannot play to a metronome?
Check your latency values. A lot depends on your audio interface as well. A good start is to set the buffer to 128-256. Try that. Also visit the ableton forum for more suggestions : )

Avoid recording from amp to your sound card.
Plug your guitar striaght into the sound card.
I'm using Saffire 6 USB with guitar rig 5 and sorted!
...also make sure to set the AUDIO FROM in ableton to 1 not 1/2 else you only have one speaker recording

Its misleading!
jerryjerome1 2 years ago
He is using Fire wire audio interface, thats the reason why he doesn't have LATENCY! Go and get one if you wanna record ;)

and your computer cant suck :P
MasterImploder 2 years ago 2
it probably has about 5ms of latency ....which is basically nothing. You need further hardware to really get zero latency....but who needs that anyway :P
zab666 2 years ago
your interface is probably trash.

Hang on a minute. WHY do you chose firewall over USB for your recording? Thanks.
zurriagazo71 2 years ago
firewire sound cards tend to have better latency, data transfer speeds, and can handle more tracks at once without freezing

I'm not familliar with this program, because I just got it with my line 6 toneport, but I'm sure you can change the output configuration so that it does. I'll message you when I find out for sure.

if you got abelton then you just double click a track.. then the bottom of your screen shoud have the track clicked displayed
You then need to click the "REV" buttom and there ya go!!! very simple

Hello
Can someone please help me with this? I need to know if there's any possibility to reverse a track (in order to produce Jimi Hendrix like solos)? I have Ableton 7.0.10. Thanks in advance
Wooter91 2 years ago
Yeah dude, double clip the audio clip, then make sure the Sample box is open, if not, click the little button near the left-hand bottom corner in between the 'L' and 'E' buttons.
Then, in the Sample box, find the 'Rev' buttun and click it.
That's the simplest way to reverse your audio.
In all honesty though, being a guitarist myself, I'ld get a multi-effects pedal to accomplish that effect more convincingly!
Hope this helps though.
Peace.

Spiritsontonight 2 years ago
How do you play perfectly in time with the metronome? My strumming is always out a fraction and with 2 guitar tracks it sounds messy. Is there a way to post edit the wave recordin so it plays exactly in sync? thanks
lukebates22 2 years ago
No technology for that just yet. At least not in real time. You can always quantize the audio in the Clip View after recording. Also check your latency settings in the prefs.

@lukebates22
This is simply practice. When I start learning guitar, my teacher let me clap rhythms to the metronome and I had it to practice at home for hours, until it was perfect. A lack of practice in playing an instrument cannot be compensated by software. How will you ever play in a band when you cannot play to a metronome?
MeisterDesDesasters 1 year ago
@lukebates22 You can always just practice....... and then get better....... just sayin.

when i try hooking it up there's delay from when i play and when it records onto the program. do you have any suggestions on how to fix that?
lolface524 2 years ago
Check your latency values. A lot depends on your audio interface as well. A good start is to set the buffer to 128-256. Try that. Also visit the ableton forum for more suggestions : )

That's the most rediculous way of using Ableton Live of all programs to do loop recording.. Why in the world would you do an example like this in the fashion, session view, hello?

you just relieved the most stress off my shoulders..thanks.. but one question..i recorded my guitar track but i cant hear it when i play it or when i try to play it back..why is this?

to the far right of the track where you arm it your probably on "send only" instead of "master" .
that should fix your prob
