I've seen some of the scariest stuff on earth and shrugged it off. But this. This and spiders. EEEEEP! I'd kill myself before I had to get near either of those.
It is a parasite that infects the body and controls the mind leading the infected to the food source the parasite needs to grow and then makes the infected kill it's self.
this makes me think how this thing evolved.... just think about it, it almost seems impossible...the funghi had to have a long history coinciding with that insect, then somehow have to figure out it's nerve systems, how they worked, what they did, their composition. nature is frighteningly creative. also, if this happens to insects and not other animals, is it because of the complexity of the animal? or does it just need more time...?are insects more like machines? i have a lot of questions!!!
It's a ratchet. The fungus might've been mildly psychoactive already, and the ones that affected the ants in a positive way (even really slightly) were statistically more likely to proliferate, and so on. They end up getting better and better at it, REALLY slowly.
that really makes sense, considering psychotropic fauna like peyote or cannabis. i still find it astounding that a sophisticated creature can be in essence controlled to such an extent by a spore.....the so called lower life forms(insects, spores, invertebrates and so on) are the most beautiful, destructive, creative and astounding of all. mammals like us seem so boring compared to them...
Have you seen what mammals like us can do? We've built empires and controlled millions. We've fought diseases and are forging are way into the universe. We've utilized the elements, we've given birth to artists, scientists, revolutionaries.
Yep we're real boring. I wish we could somehow kill things in a cool mutated way. Then we'd be rocking.
in the words of doc emmet brown:"you're not thinking fourth dimensionally" what we've done is utilizing our environment to our advantage, in a sense making a sanctuary against uncompromising nature. this fungus is much more abstract by nature, it's its born talent what makes it pretty much unique.I understand mammals more, so that world seems so strange and amazing to me. and just because it doesn't paint a rembrandt doesn't make it stupid. we just have different specialities or talents.
@certise : "Yep we're real boring. I wish we could somehow kill things in a cool mutated way. Then we'd be rocking" dude...did u just wake up or what? ever heard of the swine flue? h1n1? nwo? OBAMA??!?! man, we are already 'rocking'
Hey smartass that post was said 3 months ago so why don't you keep up. And yeah swine flu is definitely not man kinds fault. Though maybe we've contributed to it's evolution it's a disease that we fight. A meaningless fight I might add. And by the way everything you've said is totally irrelevant to my whole post. What does Obama have to do with mutation and human evolution? I mean't that quote in a sarcastic way, So don't reply to my comments 3 months afetr with something stupid.
@certise: i didnt know you wrote it 3 months ago so my bad. human evolution is human evolution i never said THAT has anything to do with obama. obama has to do with the NWO witch is crazy evil shit. the swine flu WAS created by man, and the h1n1 is pure poison that mutates with the swine to make you even more sick, and eventually kill you. i simply stated that "killing things in a cool mutated way" is already taking place but theres nothing cool about it. its real as reality itself.
Well I was talking about human and social evolution so I don't know why you're talking about something so irrelevant. That's great and now you're just starting to sound like conspiracist. New World Order? Like really? You're bringing that up in a Parasitic Fungi video? H1N1 is a natural mutation of forms of previous human, swine, and avian flus.
no, that is not my point at all. just because i can't understand it, doesn't mean it's some kind of higher power. i'm just being inquisitive. and i love evolution BECAUSE it's complex, and the thing a hate about religions is that it's the easy way out. I'd rather have the beautiful, complex, hard and uncompromising view of nature than the so called unconditional yet incapacitated love and power of god(except when it comes to punishing...).
wow this is amazing...jeesh this is why i hate growing cities and lost lands...the lands of this beauty like the rainforest or your backyard will someday just be a new plantation for a buisness building
Hey they've seen ants performing surgery on each other and some species know about agriculture as well. I bet if enough time was given ants could become a dominant species just as humans are.
