  • There's something elegantly symmetrical about Hasse's music yet it's still coarsing with energy. Very underpraised composer.

  • Thanks for posting. I enjoyed it enough that I bought it from iTunes.

  • Me refiro a Peter Hasse (1585 - 1640), desculpe.

  • It reminds me of some sinfonias of CPE Bach....

  • Does Hasse always go this pace and stride in this manner? Even the Andante sounds like a march.

  • Generally, yes. He was primarily an opera composer so his style is certainly energetic and dramatic.

  • We shouldn't think of this as a "Symphony". In the Baroque Era the word sinfonia was often used as a synonym of "Overture". Since Hasse was an Opera composer, I suspect that this is actually a type of overture in 3 movements.

  • It is the Ouverture of Cleofide

  • That's right!

  • Reinhard Goebel has certainly blazed a trail across German Galanterie of the mid eighteenth century.I find this dutiful but not one of his better performances.Beyond some fine dynamic contouring he seems to be grasping at straws...

  • you left out the hautboys! we're there, col parte with the fiddles! :D

  • Oh of course, I'm sorry. I'm often so anxious to get the music uploaded that I often make errors in my descriptions.

    Thank you.

  • Once again, Lovely music Harmonico...

  • Thank you for introducing me to so many wonderful composers.

  • Lovely music from a lessor known composer. The painting is fantastic! Do you know what location it is?

  • The painting is of the city of Dresden, where Hasse lived for most of his life.

  • Utterly amazing music by Hasse! Thank you for uploading this jewel of the baroque period.
