I lived some years of my childhood in Pakistan, but I do know the National anthem of Pakistan in Urdu very well. I think Urdu is one of the most beautiful languages in the world. Then my family and I emigrated to the United States, and I had to learn English here, since Americans will not learn Urdu for us. To this day, after being away from our motherland for nearly 14 years, I speak Urdu to the best of my abilities because of not only its beauty, but because I want to preserve the Pakistani language and traditions, and a promise I made to my khala.

Much of our words come from Farsi. There was even a debate as to what the official language should have been, many claim it was going to be Farsi, but they opted for Urdu instead. Regardless of what language it's, that's no excuse for not knowing it. I know it by heart, and I wasn't even born in Pakistan.

Had the national anthem been in English, they wouldn't know it still because of the way they have been brought up.
