Can a native Sri Lankan, Tamil or Sihnalese, please explain to me the history of relations between the JVP and the LTTE. It seems like the two movements shared a number of general interests in response to the state apparatus. Were there attempts to foster those interests, or were the two movements already too ideologically and politically set in their trajectories to attempt any bridging?
I am not sure whether there was any need for them to have relations since the JVP powerbase was sinhala and in the south and LTTE was mainly in the north and tamil.

India a Federal Republic is diverse in many aspects, particularly different languages which seems to be the root cause here. You are absolutely right!! Sri lankan Army could have won the battle against tigers easily if not for the interference of india. Especially the operation Vadamaarachchi which had trapped prabakaran and all other LTTE leaders in Jaffna library in 1987. It is only because IPKF pulled out their troops that LTTE were able to capture large portions of territory.
Otherwise this whole problem would have solved decades ago.
