Daniel Lanois is also a long time friend of Brian Eno...I've followed Eno's music for years from Roxy music to Talking Heads and his own personal projects..... I'm so grateful too because without doing so I'd never have found Daniel and my world would be soo much poorer for it.... He's an instrument all on his own....
@comaradella Hello, Hector! I can't figure out how soon these comments post--they didn't yesterday, now here they are. I have been listening to Daniel for the last couple of days & am now in a trance-like state.
I've been listening to your work, maybe since Bob Dylan, can't remember which record. Heard you on David Dye yesterday with Trixie, sounded great saw you at Berklee a while ago. I worked with Arif Mardin. Bless you
Just seen BLACK DUB @ the Commadore Ballroom 02/02/11.And it was WICKED!!!
Trixie sings like an Angel.Brian I think is the best drummer out there He chops the beat down like a lumberjack with his axe.And Daniel Lanois Man oh man this 60 year old man
plays like He's been Blessed by all the greatest 6 string slingers ever.He is one of the greatest players of our time GO SEE THEM!! I can't stress that enough you will not be disapointed. My top 3 guitar players now are JH,DL,EC.
@purpledoublebarrel i was there too! right in front of the bassist. solid show, even with trixie's gaffs. brian is worth seeing alone. i met him after, what a gracious guy he is.
@AvirtualSwitzerland PLAYING GITARE LIKE THIS TAKES A GREAT EAR! MAYBE YOU KNOW YOUR TECHNICS BUT I BET 100$ YOU GOT NO FEELING OVERALL CAUSE IF YOU HAD ANY FEELINGS YOU WOULDN'T TRY TO DOWNGRADE SUCH A GREAT ARTIST LIKE HIM! THANK YOU! Yes in caps lock, cause it look retarded as your comment. Cause It's retarded to still explaining such thing in high end stuff.
@lemanchot666 .....check out the drums/space section from ANY second set of a 1990's GRATEFUL DEAD show since you appreciate MIDI so much....every instrument is experimenting with all kinds of pre-programmed sounds....90's versions of PLAYING IN THE BAND are also worth a listen, Senor MIDI...
@AvirtualSwitzerland I just read your profile description, you should leave your ego a bit and maybe open your mind... Yes it is MIDI... who cares? You think just because he use MIDI over this track he got no skills at all? Daniel is an awsome player what ever you can say... even a great performer... Not our fault if your frustrated in your own little life and feel like to bitch on anybody who got more talent than you dude. Grow up a bit and make yours to worth it out to breath. Mr. Swiss.
@lemanchot666 plus Daniel plays pedalsteel guitars which is an another instrument it takes lots of practice to use properly, I really don't know what are you trying to proove or anything just get over it dude.
Greetings - don't think this tone necessitates midi. I'm getting something similar from P90 (bridge) using trem pedal and Big Muff (very slight) and DMM via a trusty and beaten up AC30.
@fivenotechord ....If you want some good music, listen to RATDOG or SCARING THE CHILDREN. There's a "first set" video and a second set" video from a recent "Jam Cruise" where they play on the cruise ship heading to Jamaica. Just punch in those key words...
This is really good....I'd like to hear more of this Black Dub project. Sadly we'll have to wait for a few months due to his recent motorcycle accident. Get well soon, man!
AS usual, great music. great sound, great melody.. Also need to applaud Adam Vollick for his video capture of Lanois' style. Those two are in perfect synch artistically! Bravo les boys!
Wonderful stuff, could listen to you play all day. Great tone and picking. You really have a nice touch and ear. It all started with Bettina for my ears.
the date at the end of the vid makes me think he's passed. oi! A little frightening in a way. creeps. it;s a beautiful vid, though, LOVE him and vid says it all beautifully. Love the anton corbijn hints. red and blues.
6 dislikes? 6 people without soul!
Pure emotion is dripping from that guitar, mind numbing satisfaction!

Daniel Lanois spent most of his career producing bands that you've never heard of, like U2.
His own music isn't as wel known but one of my personal favorites (even though my french is limited) is Jolie Louise
