Ive watched every episode to date of greys, and this one scene is the most upsetting of all time for me! I cry EVERYTIME and im a guy, its a mixture of the screaming, the open mouth silent cry and the fact its bailey for me, also the fact they worked so hard for him to stay alive and now they have to let him die:'( x
I found this scene was a spirit breaker. It was the first time I've seen my husband cry while watching a movie and we were both left feeling defeated. Very effective scene.
I'm bawling buckets right now. And that almost never happens when I'm watching a TV show. Her "oh dammit" at 0:21 was what really set me off. What a fantastic scene.

I think what people is saying what is emmy worthy is her acting. The emotion she put into the fact that she knows that she won't be able to save him. That they are stuck there and there's nothing she can do about it. It was emmy worthy...but all this is moot for the fact that she didn't even get nominated which sucks.
this was the first episode of grey's that i ever watched. this scene, this scene is why i watch this show. i watch the show for all the raw emotion. i absolutely praise all these actors- the way they throw themselves into every single scene. every single actor and actress in this show never fails to amaze me.
@No1MerDerFan4Eva I think the wounds were far too extensive by that point. And dragging him down the stairs would have been fatal. I mean, he died pretty quick after they sat down. They already did what they could, with what they had. Bailey knew nothing else could be done, or else she would've done it.
@Dastiel4ever Why does everyone hate April? For the record I'm not a regular watcher of this show. The only time I watch it is if there's a good episode on(like this one & that episode with the "Early Edition" guy playing a bomb squad leader). But from what I saw of this episode April seems ok to me.
@Lizfan2 yes she could but percy is big and bailey is very small if she dragged him down stairs he would die anyways because of the injury i think he would bleed out IMO
@gappjunkie5 He was already bleeding out, & if Bailey was strong enough to drag him to the elevator then she was strong enough to drag him down a flight of stairs. At least maybe he would have had a chance.
I had thought of using the stairs too when I saw this scene.
They could have used a wheelchair (they are in a hospital) and wheeled him down to the operating room or bring what they needed up to him. They did fail him...to just let him die should not have been an option. I felt so bad when Percy talked of his Mom. He was Mama's boy...a good man. He deserved more.
@WilBarn99 Considering that they were on lockdown in order to isolate a killer & the elevators were turned off I think it stands to reason that the stairs may have been inaccessible too. Of course they never showed that so who knows.
@WilBarn99 Heck the only ones who seemed to have been thinking clearly throughout the whole ordeal were Webber, Owen & Hunt. Although Hunt talking about her relationship problems while walking down the hallways with a critical patient was rather dumb. A psycho killer is on the loose in the hospital killing doctors & she thinks Owen choosing either her or Christina is important at that moment? Cripes she needed a priority check. A reality check would have been good too.
I did enjoy the Owen Hunt, Teddy & Christina love triangle. I'm glad Owen married Christina. Teddy gets a new love interst soon....I hear. Yes...I am also glad Owen has been given the priority of teaching "what to do in an emergency situation" they do all need the training.
@WilBarn99 No kidding. I just don't understand why they didn't have that training in the first place. Granted you never think something like that would happen in a hospital, but wasn't 9-11 supposed to teach us all that anything can happen anywhere at anytime? I thought medical personnel were supposed to be well-versed in what to do & not do in the event they're confronted by an armed psycho (or in any emergency situation for that matter). Also, the swat team in the episode was rather lame.
Yes I agree. I mean all the men and security guards in Seattle Grace no one could take down one lone gunman! They have to call in a swat team...you must admit it made one really good episode.
But look at Columbine and the other cases of one or two people with guns creating so much killing. Remember that student who killed 32 people?
@WilBarn99 Yes I know. But in the case of Colombine, there WAS an armed security guard. Unfortunately there was only one guard & he was armed only with a handgun, whereas the 2 killers were armed to the teeth. The guard was outnumbered & outgunned. & VA Tech was a gun-free zone. That's why that psycho was able to kill 33 people there. It's not so far fetched if it's a low-security thing like a school. But hospitals are different. I can't see it happenning in a city hospital.
@WilBarn99 Seriously, a huge hospital, a psycho with a gun killing people, no one knows where he is(or who he is at first), & the cops send in only one SWAT team consisting of 5 or 6 guys?? There should have been at least 5 or 6 SWAT teams(or more) searching that hospital. That & the fact that the hospital's security guards seemed to have been unarmed(was the hospital a gun-free zone?)stretches the credibility issue of this episode.
Yea...it seems that Seatle Grace security guards only carry flashlights and turn chicken when danger comes. I had thought too why aren't the security guards armed? Oh...well it still was a damn good episode.
I have heard the issue of pysical strength argued by the police and military in reguards to women. If women are to hold these jobs...women should be able to perform the same task. So are you are saying that if he was with Mark Sloan or Owen Hunt at the time they could have saved him?
@WilBarn99 ok, let's do this slowly. You are arguing that Bailey (FICTIONAL surgeon) should've been able to carry Percy (with the bleeding gunshot wound) down the stairs because female soldiers are expected to have the same strength as male soldiers? I won't even bother responding.
All I am humbly saying is that the two of them could have bought him to the Oprerating room or bought what they needed up to him. For Dr. Bailey just to hold his hand and watch him die was not Emmy worthy but it did make good drama.
@Lizfan2 She couldn't of he would have bled to death.. carrying him that far down stairs would have killed him faster.. he could have also been wounded worse
This is the most amazing piece of Bailey acting ever and she is always good. The silent scream, the silent regain of control complete with readjusting her clothes and the resignation of death immenient is the most powerful writing and execution of that writing I have seen on that show. I love this show for scenes like this but this is my favorite all time scene. Well done.
god, i haven't even seen the 6th season yet (i'm on a grey's anatomy hiatus since george's death :( ) and this still made me cry. WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON??
and btw? fucking amazing acting, chandra, that was just gorgeous, even if i've got no idea in hell what the storyline here is.
this is one of the most moving scenes of the series...Miranda does thru the stages of death in her own way. She is in denial that the elevators aren't working. Then she immediately goes thru anger, then she bargains within herself before the cameras come around to her. it goes out of order in a way b/c she goes thru acceptance and knows that he is going to die. Then she has depression....
omfgggg I cried and cried my eyes out watching this! It felt like the end of the world to me because Miranda almost never breaks down, so when she does I feel defeated and scared! lmao
this was the part of the finale that i cried the most at. Seriously, when she first starts screaming i was literally shaking. Nothing on tv's ever done that to me.
A shooter has entered the hospital and shot many innocent people including this intern named Charles. Dr. Bailey who usually has all the answers realizes there is nothing she can do.

@nooriskandar yes that is actually the best part i think not because she was screaming but that moment when the camara circle around her is amazing her face is just very good acting i think
Man Shonda Rhimes got me crying on both of her shows Private Practice(With Dell's death) and this scene with Percy dying and all of Ellen's scenes. Chandra Wilson and Ellen Pompeo both deserve award nominations for their scenes they were heartbreaking!

She been nominated 4 times at the Emmys for Grey's Anatomy and hasn't won yet, I always thought she was a good actress but this scene was mind blowing. This scene brung me to tears, I hope she gets nominated for this episode and wins.....she deserves a Emmy!
Someone needs to give this woman an Emmy. She's always good on the show & has given many Emmy-worthy performances, but this scene? Blows them out of the water. Wow.
@gappjunkie5 I agree...this was the most heartbreaking scene because Bailey has never broke down this bad!!! she deserves 12 emmys lol...this season finale was one of the best! Greys anatomy was just rebirthed
She is such an amazing actress. She is so believable and conveys emotion amazingly.

Wow.
