  • That guitar wasn't red when he picked it up.

And there was a person sitting at the chair.

  • SHIT tone.

  • this is a nice gain tone sound...is the amps gain or pedal?

  • @P00TANARA probly his rack. he has pretty much every tone/effect ever though of in that thing. i believe the pedal is just a controller for the rack.

  • @DavidL1432 sounds more to me ike he's just plugged straight into an amp

  • wake up, its his playing that makes the biggest difference

  • horrible...

  • I like his Ibanez more then any musicman! and I quite sure he misses it too!!!

  • The high cost of the guitar does not always mean high quality, especially since the guitar is very expensive to the buyer pays the most for your company name and logo on the guitar.

  • This movie is a little bit funny to me, because he is playing MM Axis, and sounds exactly the same like all his records, which shows that difference between all guitars with basswood body, maple neck +maple/rswd fingerboard is sooo small, that it all comes to your hands. And a little bit to pickups.

  • All black

    rock!

  • doesn't sound that good, the guitar i mean

  • The guitar not being John signature model, it incinerated as soon as John stopped playing.

  • HOW CAN I GET THAT TONE???

  • I dunno, I can play a lot better/cleaner on a Ibanez Jem than on a Standard Srat.

  • @BloodHarvest21 well when you compare a (im guessing) $500 mexican strat to a $2100 (i think) MIJ ibanez there is going to be a difference in sound (likely for the better by a longshot)

  • way too far from his clean and precise tone.

  • 'bout 70% of your guitar sound is all in the fingers,

You can buy a 2000$ guitar and it could sound shit,

You could buy a 200$ guitar and fucking rock everyones balls out.

  • Its Funny he(John) will always be remembered for his Ibanez Picasso RG Guitars. However, just like Clapton when he switched to Strats from his Gibsons his Tone, and playing changed a lot.

  • @phallystorm

That Ibanez was killer. Both that guitar, and him when he played it, looked much better. And his playing was better, too. Nice call.

  • @TheTrueFortress how are you going to compare a live performance or studio recording to this little diddy warmup/practice? Music man axis is a pro level guitar.... Biased clowns...

  • Half of the notes cant be heard... am i wrong?

  • @71GA does he play too fast for you ^^ ?

  • @Kyu59158 I blame it on the guitar not the artist.

  • @Kyu59158 He is too fast for most humans

  • @71GA ye

  • When I flick this switch I go into killzone mode, which means these two center coils become active and whenever I shred I kill people instantly, they just drop on the floor and die.....it's pretty amazing to see.

  • tragedia

  • tragedja

  • Killer as usual and he's just goofing off!

  • I realy wanna try a musicman

  • It's weird to listen to him without the delays.

  • I feel way better about my messing around now. If even the almighty John Petrucci guitar-rambles when he's just chillin, then I feel more like I have a chance with doing well with songwriting.

  • @Aleckts that's what I thought :D

  • I think he is a decendent of chuck norris

  • @SLIPKNOT4747 the brother that didnt get to see the light of the sun actually.

  • @evhwolfgangguitar eddie van halen signature? No dude thats a prototype of his musicman petrucci signature

  • @reympab29 no, this clearly is the Axis Super Sport. It isn't EVH's signature too (axis is upgraded version of EVH's signature MM guitar made since MM and EVH have ended working with each other). Great guitar, anyway, I'm planning to get my hands on one of these :D

  • its all about the player. sure the guitar comes into play, but after the person playing it. i bet john petrucci could make any guitar sound decent

  • Quality guitar for 200 bucks? What quality?

  • @whatshendrix tater tots

  • @whatshendrix dude you can pay £1000 and still get shit quality

  • @6project6nightmare6

    Exactly...

  • @6project6nightmare6 So, if I buy Petrucci... all's good

  • @whatshendrix I have a "200 bucks guitar" and it's good quality.

  • @iLoveGreeenDay1

    How so?

  • @whatshendrix yea, really good quality for that price(119$). it's a dean vendetta xm. i've never had problems with it. plays good, looks good. but i don't say music man axis isn't better.

  • @iLoveGreeenDay1

If that's you definition of quality... Pretty shallow.

  • @whatshendrix oh. stop it... this discussion has no end.

  • @iLoveGreeenDay

    Whatever.

  • @whatshendrix when you have guitar for 200 bucks only good strings ,tuned guitar , and your hand can sound good, trust me, ist not all in your guitar !!! 80% is in your hands so think about that

  • @joja93x

You condescending twat... How long have you been playing - a month?! I'm NOT talking about playability, I'm talking about QUALITY - quality refers to sustain, tone, noise reduction, pickup options, intonation, versatility, durability etc.

A $200 guitar can't provide any of that - they pick up noise, they can't be intonated at all, they don't stay in tune, they have a tone which is appropriate for one style of music, frets wear easily and make intonation even worse, etc. etc....

  • @whatshendrix I have a 200$ Jackson guitar and I setup it wonderfully, and it sounds better than all the guitars I try at the music store.

  • @mesvidsfavoris

I'm sure you're happy with it, that of course is not the issue here.

  • @mesvidsfavoris Yeah but if the guitars were setup properly in the music store, they'd probably blow your $200 jackson out of the water, so it's a bit of an unfair comparison

  • @ChromeXk I setup guitars in the music store as my job, and no matter the price you pay the guitar, if it's not set up well it won't sound any better than my little Jackson. However, I must say that I've upgraded the pick-ups on it with some Parralel Axis Distortion (duncan) and a Hot Rail, which brings the value to 400$ lol. But my point is that it is set up properly, even for 200$ and it stays in tune. She's also scalloped and do not hum at all.

  • And I'd add that, most of the guitars in most music stores are not perfectly set up. Most often they arrive from shipping and are simply tuned. It has nothing to do with a setup you can do home, carefully and precise. But I agree that the more you pay, the better material you get (wood, metal parts, mecanics), which is what I like with my Schecter... mahogany body, maple top, maple neck and nice stock pick-ups for 500 bucks

  • @whatshendrix Eh, couple exceptions to that rule. The most notable being the OLP MM1's.

  • are you sure you know.... anything?

  • I have a Starcaster, dirt cheap guitar less than $150. I changed the pups on it for sumarian cobalts, the guitar sounded amazing! But then I got an American Strat with sumarian cobalts in 'em. Theres not even a competition between the two guitars, the American Strat is miles superior. This should end your argument all together. Anyone will say what you're saying if you play on a $200 guitar. Go get yourself a real guitar and see how that argument holds up.

  • hey... HEY!

Theres no need to put dragon ball into your petty argument ... mofo's

  • HAHAHA that is funny

  • by the way, does that distortion come direct from de mesa boogie or there´s some pedal between?

  • The chord looks like its going directly into the boogie on the right.

  • i love it

  • no those amps have awsome tone clean or muddy

  • I like his new guitar, but i stil miss him with his long hair (really long, like in th Images and words era), with his Ibanez guitars and without the muscles but what the fuck he is still great.

  • thats pretty much what his hair is like again. i just saw them on the prog nation '09 tour

  • that sounded kind of gay... well, that if you aren´t a woman

  • I liked the short hair really. But without the muscles

  • wow so different from the final product

  • You must admit that the Petrucci Music Man is litterally THE perfect guitar, well for my style at least. Its like John, perfect and God lol

I mean it superior quality tothose stupid Wolfgang Axis Music Mans, i mean EVH could've made it so much better.

  • It is the perfect guitar no doubt. It can play just about anything and is a really sexy guitar.

  • uh dummy you can make a guitar sound the way you want it no matter what ive seen eruption played on wal mart guitars so yea learn about the magic of effects, secondly eddies guitars is indestructible i watched him get mad cuz he couldnt break it like normal guitars they built his guitar to stand up to the shit he puts guitars thru

  • wow i think you just described yourself child, cuz i have never watched dragon ball ,and im not 16,and i dont pretend to be better at guitar than i really am

  • and stop talkin like your the only guitarist in the world man every guitarist (myself included ) knows about eddie so what you said didnt make you sound smart or cool you basically wasted time typing that, and if you really knew about eddie you wouldnt try to say 50 dollar guitars are useless cuz hey eddies guitars when he first started werent all that great just junkyard jewels so to speak, and on top of that he wired the pickup wrong

  • i have to agree with that other guy youre an idiot.. a $50 guitar is going to sound like shit... YOU might not realize the difference because your ears are not developed enough.. (that not an insult it takes time).. the type of wood the guitar is made of and the pups matter a LOT... im sure you heard someone say that a good amp can make any guitar sound good and thats where youre getting your logic but thats only if the guitar has good wood (lol) and pups. the rest matters but are minor details

  • Tell that to Edward Van Halen!...His Baby!! The Franky guitar Was made of Factory Seconds and Thirds...Total into that guitar is about 150.00!!!and that Guitar Sounds Amazing!!!If It Sounds Good It Is Good!!!

  • @DROPD5150 Yeah but back then guitars were cheap as fuck.

And Fender weren't making mass factory made Fender shits.

They were all pretty decent even for 150$

  • i agree that the quality declined compared to what it is now.. even judging from a 70s-80s fenders with what we have now.. there is a great difference of the old americans than these new ones..i was just in GC and funny i tested 2 teles.. but for some reason the mex sounds better than one of the am standards..

but oh well maybe just luck.

  • isnt his signature guitar a music man

  • yes it is

  • Since when did Petrucci start using a MM?

  • around 2000

  • since about 3 years before train of thought...

  • during scenes from a memory

  • What world are you living in man PEtrucci started using an Ernie Ball Music Man with his own signature model since 1999 or 2000.

  • since the last millinieum

  • his bends sound so sick with that tone.. loveit

  • LOL his bends sound great with any tone! =) ♫♪

  • thats true

  • One of the most overlooked aspects of JP: The man has complete control of each note he plays, even with full gain. Usually what separates a great guitarist from a pretty good guitarist is the right hand, and JP really shows that.

  • true, it's an art not to sound like pile of noise and that clean using high amounts of distortion

  • It is, but that's not really what I mean. I'm talking about dynamics and tone shaping, there are tons of different ways to pick the same note, and most guitarists never think about it. JP is a master of this, and there are no accidental "awesome notes" in his playing, because he can recreate them anytime he wants which is why he sounds so good live aswell, not just on record. Having complete control over your right-hand dynamics is one of the hardest things about being a guitarist.

  • yeah, yeah, I was under the impression of a conversation before regarding moderate output pickups and filling the sound with more gain, but when I read you latest comment, I instantly got the vision of Lines In The Sand Solo :) watch?v=k5t_b9xOY-I

  • Yes. Dynamics = emotion in music.

  • you heard sfogli? him and petrucci are responsible for me cleanin my right hand up, and it made a huge difference

  • PG was actually talking about the dynamic gain control technique. He compared gain to being the acceleration of a car and your technique being the steering wheel. Just like how racers would crash if they couldn't control their fast cars, guitarists would sound like ass if they couldn't control their hi-gain.

    Nifty analogy IMO. =D

  • @C7Blackjack Its more of the left hand than the right. 80 percent of the feeling and tone comes from your fretting hand.

  • @shlokda yea but it takes longer to fully develop the right hand...many guitarists lack an articulate right hand.

  • Most definitely my friend, most defintely.

  • aldrich is good, but nobody beats john beartrucci

  • both modes are bear mode

  • Ok, go for it

  • ...according to some random youtuber who calls himself DaKewlGuy. You're obviously not much of a musician if you think such diverse artists could be ranked like that. But out of all those guys I'd say Petrucci, maybe along with Vai, is the most versatile. All the guys you mentioned are good at their own thing, which only makes the comparison dumber.

  • As much as I do disagree with your opinion, that was never the issue. The issue was that it's an uneducated and unreasonable (and irrelevant) opinion, so if you want to spark internet arguments at least have a valid one. If you said something in the style of "I generally prefer listening to these other guitarists because etc. ", that would have been a reasonable, valid argument.

  • Ya, but can they keep insynch with Jordan Rudess?

  • one of my favorite guitarists by far.

  • u just can't compare!We're not worthy!

  • mano rigidaa!!;-P ;-) si si...troppo...METALLOOOOOOOO!!!!hihihihihihihi

  • john petrucci the best ever

  • The Diamondplate's more than likely a 3-channel Triple Recto, or possibly a Dual. The clothface is either a Trem-o-Verb or Rectoverb. The Roadster didn't come out until last year. Not to mention JP's mainly used a backline of Rectos, RK's, Lone Stars, and Mark III n' IVs. Cheers!

  • JP hasn't used a Mark III since the 80's, but you are correct about the Recto's, RK's, Lonestars, and Mark IV's. Don't forget about the IIC+.

  • the roadking has more knobs than this amp! does anybody know which amp this is?

  • The amp he's playing out of is the Mesa Roadster. Which is almost the same as the Road King, you just cant A/B cabs and don't have necessarily all the perks of the Road King. Like Recto-tracking, that crazy tube selection per channel. Essentially same amp though.

  • i´m almost positive it´s the dual rectifier trem-o-verb!

  • at the beginning, it sounds like EVH's tone... not that I'm trying to bring him into it, but I just noticed.

  • That guitar he's using was actually designed by Van Halen, he used them in the 90's, I think, so that's natural. Kick ass sound still, though!

  • not an axis. That was one of the protoypes for his signature model. Look at the top horn, it is different than an axis.

  • That's an early Axis Sport I think? It doesn't have binding and it's got the HH with Peizo as well. The top horn has his hair hanging onto that area making it look a bit different I think.

  • nice chops John

  • the mesa cab is so awfull in this color °_°

  • with a soldano slo 100 it sound better i think ^^

  • mesa boogie<3333

  • うらやましいぞ

  • xDxDxD

  • is he playing through the road king or the dual/triple rec?

  • Road king.

  • I don't think the Road King was out at that time. Didn't it come out in 2002? I'm probably wrong. I don't see one anyway.

  • is it true that road king and roadster have same quality just roadking has some extra features?

  • wow, awsome tone. i wish i knew what the tone setting were on that mesa.

  • Everything's set between 1 and 10.

  • Why do you guys always ask for tone settings? Fuckin' experiment for once in your lives, instead of going around kissing everyones ass and copying their style.

  • agreed

  • well put twooos :)

  • amen brotha

  • its not copying their style, if i use the same amps as john am i copying his style? he's just asking for settings to have something to go off of, these amps are hard to dial in

  • sounds so badass!!;)

  • I was at the Dream Theater concert last night and he does not mess up at all.

  • petrucci is great, gotta love that tone.

love the new dream theater album too!

  • its not lame at all that hes using the old eddie van halen signature guitar to be his own signature......

  • dude the modifications Petrucci has done, give a guitar that has nothing in common with Van halen guitar signature except the brand name.

  • thats pretty much exactly what eddie had but jp has his own sig that is nothing like that

  • shut up dumb

  • fuck you

    hell make you his bitch

  • that man right there is a god

  • If I was at your intelligence, then I would also accuse everyone of over thinking things.. btw he's got a wife and three kids or so, so no, he's not gay. And he's playing sold out arenas to legions of devoted fans, (saw him last night as a matter of fact) while you're just wasting your stupidity on youtube. You're still his bitch, man.

  • Hes obviously really good at guitar and i used to be kind of in to dt but it just got boreing cuz hes to wrapped up in making everything perfect that i think dt have kinda lost their touch to making music. They have to like chart out songs and label their riffs...thats sad... I remember seeing this interview where they were talking about this new riff called "the meshuggah riff"

  • That's because their songs are long as hell and because you have to be organized and above all not make any excessive noise when writing as a band. It's not sad, it's proffessional.

  • fuck, you have all my answers and you speak better than me so yeah, spread messages dude!!

Sweepman6667, i may see this as a concept when he gives a name to a riff. Like every single note, scales and keys etc are perfectly thoughts and known by him and it's a result of what he got when he put all his thoughts together. I may be totally wrong, i never saw that interview, i use to listen the music, not their interviews and theory explanation (except a few)

  • Btw overthinking your music is a good way to avoid writing cliché songs and finding new solutions instead. This can be for better or for worse but in my humble opinion DT are one of the bands that actually manage to keep being inventive and innovative without resorting to pointless weirdness.

  • it's actually the first time (with steve vai) i get attracted to almost of the songs. It means what you said !

  • +1000

  • you're an idiot, he could rip your fucking asshole in two his his massive dick

    dumbass

  • you're a fucking tool

  • U suck ;)
