I've just bought some quinoa for the first time as I've heard about how healthy it is. I want to have it for breakfast - can anyone suggest what I can eat it with? ie. do you have it with jam? chopped fruit??
this helped soo much! im starting to eat quinoa for breakfast and the directions on the quinoa that we buy has us cooking it for 50 miinutes! thanks so much!
My MOMMA IS FROM BOLIVIA!!! WATCHA KNOW ABOU THAT HOMMIE!!!
But seriously, my mom is from Bolivia and its ironic that I found about this grain and it comes from my moms country. I am trying to lose weight and eat healthy, and rice is a big part of my eating habits. So, I am trying to cut on that and using quinoa as a substitute. Thanks for the VID!
sorry to tell you but you're severely misinformed. i don't know about bottled water in the UK, but in the US, its completely unregulated and isn't even safe to drink. the water isn't ever tested for pathogens and is loaded with petro-chemicals and BPA from being stored in plastic bottles that are proven carcinogens. in reality, the safest bet is tap water, but the bottled water industries just want you to feel that way about it so you keep buying it.
@CrossfireAUS Yes you can eat it raw, it should be sprouted first unless you want to eat teeth breakingly hard little balls lol. It is good just sprouted and it only takes about 24 hours after the initial soak. You could actually eat with less than a 24 hour sprouting time. Just taste it.
Thank you for the video and hope you like my recipe al dente!!!
1 open pan
1 table spoon olive oil
1 cup of quinoa
1 cup of boiling water
salt if you like
Gently fry the quinoa until the bottom of the pan gets rough and the quinoa brights, then add the water and when starts boiling put fire on minimun and cover for 13 minutes. Sit it before serving and add salt and if you wish.
@quinoarecipes i think one of the biggest mistakes people make is that theywash their foods with tap water. what happens is that basically all the chemicals from the water gets soaked up in the foods. try bottled water or even better , the best alkaline water. watch this for proof kangenlife.co.uk
@aarun10 tap water is often actually better than bottled water for chemicals, bottled water has the added problem of plastic particles that come off of the bottle into the water.
@aarun10 Actually studies show there are LESS chemicals in tap water than in bottled water! Which I know is unbelievable but it is true. So using tap water is MUCH better; not to mention better on the environment; you should never use bottled water. Also you can also use a brita filter. :)
@aarun10 Well I dont know about washing, but definitely cooking. When u cook with tap water everything reduces and you get all that fluoride (a poison) and other impurities in your food. I use spring water when doing something like this or when its all going to be absorbed. I dont when doing a bath like pasta etc.
Read some of the others' comments and figured I'd put my two cents in. I buy my quinoa from the bulk section at the market. (Love the bulk section!) I cook it as I would rice: 1 part quinoa to 2 parts liquid (I like to use homemade veggie stock; water is great but adds no flavor), I bring to a simmer and cover for 15 minutes at a reduced heat. As for rinsing, I learned to rinse the quinoa in a strainer until the water no longer foams on the top of the grains. Hope this helps!
I do not think you need to soak it for hours. Following the advice of some one who commented earlier on try using warm water for a few minutes. This might speed up the process
@quinoarecipes I always buy it in bulk and just follow these directions, tasted fine to me, no bitterness or anything, what's the difference, it's still a whole food right?
@icephoenyx It depends upon the brand. Eden Foods uses a rubbing process to remove the saponins from the quinoa before they sell it, so only minimal rinsing is necessary. I toast mine in a skillet on medium heat for a few minutes before rinsing. I also only use 1 1/3 cup of water per 1 cup of quinoa and cook it covered for 12 minutes.
Thank you Dr. Nyman for stating the water to rinse it with should be hot. And to Quinoacat, I will not forget your comparison to manna from heaven. Thank you YouTube for being here. Thank all of you for posting. I am now making my first batch of Quinoa!!!
I need more protein in my diet since I am staying away from meat so I am looking to quinoa to satisfy that need. My friend bought me some and it came with no directions. This is definitely NOT how you cook rice so I really appreciate the demonstration. Now to view some recipes and start cooking and eating.
I used my rice cooker on the white rice setting and water amounts and it came out perfect and delicious. I am now a convert and love the low glycemic index of it.
This is a very good demonstration - just one remark: To get rid of the remaining saponins, you should wash the dry grains not with cold water but with hot water - it is much more efficient than cold water!
That is so different from what I ended up doing - simmering 1 1/4 cups water with 2 tablespoons quinoa and 2 pinches salt for 35 mins, with the lid on. That does my breakfast :)
Beware folks....there is a distinct probability that eating Quinoa is extremely beneficial to your health. If you don't want to get healthy, by all means steer clear of eating Quinoa because it is too good for you unless you seek health gains. I tell people Quinoa is about as close as you will find to what the Bible reads about Manna from Heaven, a perfectly sound nutritional powerhouse of "designer" food...
Thanks for this video ....I just got some Quinoa ...and had no idea how to cook it. Some one said to cook it like rice but I would of burned it :) know thanks to you guys I know how....Thanks

How do you store quinoa in bulk? Do you put bay leaves in it to avoid the growth of weevils?

I was wondering, the amount that you cooked in this video, is it one serving? In other words, is half a cup of quinoa and 1 cup of water one serving?

Should you simmer with the lid on or not?
PotentChr0nic 2 years ago
I do not cover with a lid. Most of the moisture is absorbed by the quinoa. Covering the pan might leave you with extra water
