There should be some punishment for jepordizing peoples' safety (the death penalty is never right); but the level of opacity we accept across all levels of government is astounding. As long as our military is engaged in occupations and clandestine operations overseas, then it has nothing to do with national security, and blowing the whistle about it isn't treason. There is such a thing as an unlawful order in the military. e.g. A Captain orders his company to open fire on an unarmed village. Unlawful. Obeying an unlawful order, and doing nothing about it is treason.

@crazyassblinddude Yeah, he is doing us a favor. He is showing the world how pointless a military occupation of the middle east truly is. When you start shooting up innocent civilians, it defets the entire purpose of being there, in the first place.
You and this Congressman are more of a threat to soldier's lives by perpetuating this war and persisting that we stay in the middle east. Your perceptions will lead to more deaths than any document, or video that has been leaked by this private.

Who cares if the soldier committed treason? The end justifies the means. Any society that keeps secrets forfeits the right to be protected, and WikiLeaks is right to fight this thing to the bloody end. Even if they fail, another similar site will pop up, then another, and another, and twice as many sources. What, did the Bush White House think they could just sneak 100,000 soldiers into the Middle East and no one would find out about it?

However, from what I have read, everything he acquired and released he hacked from a secure server (oxymoron) that he didn't have access to.
