I'm not sure why, but this seems reminiscent of Lynch's Dune. White Dwarf probably would've been somewhat successful on SciFi.

The thing that gets me about this show is that. When you have a future setting. The highest technology will not be what everyone has.

Kinda like looking at a how messed up africa is compared to the states.

Oh, man, I had this taped off TV when it first aired and then later when it was on SciFi. Would've rocked if it had made it as a series. Northern Exposure sci-fi style.

@gnatx As a matter of fact, as pointed out by a very observant reviewer on IMDB, it is actually a straight up re-working of Akira Kurosawa's 1965 film "Akahige" aka "Red Beard" set IN SPACE.
